9 posts | 9 read | 6 to read
When Hazel Wong's beloved grandfather passes away, Daisy Wells is all too happy to accompany her friend (and Detective Society Vice President) to Hazel's family estate in beautiful, bustling Hong Kong. But when they arrive they discover something they didn't expect- there's a new member of the Wong family. Daisy and Hazel think baby Teddy is enough to deal with, but as always the girls are never far from a mystery. Tragedy strikes very close to home, and this time Hazel isn't just the detective. She's been framed for murder! The girls must work together like never before, confronting dangerous gangs, mysterious suspects and sinister private detectives to solve the murder and clear Hazel's name - before it's too late . . .

Hazel gets a call from her father. He tells her that her grandfather has passed away and that she is needed in Hong Kong. Hazel takes Daisy with, and upon arrival Hazel finds out that she has a baby brother. Hazel thinks that all the tension in the family is due to this until one person in the household is killed and another kidnapped.

I loved the Hong Kong and that we finally meet the rest of Hazel‘s family.

Got this one because it was a deal on my Kobo. I guess it‘s part of a series, but was ok to read out of order. Cozy, easy little mystery.

RaeLovesToRead According to Goodreads, this is the debut. Glad to hear it was OK, I've got it on my shelf! 😊🥄🪓🫖 2y

I recently ordered these from book depository: books 6-9 plus 2 story collections in the Murder Most Unladylikes series. These are the UK editions. In the US it's called the Wells & Wong series; I have books 1-5, but gave up on the rest ever bring published in the US and got the UK editions. So they don't match my 1st 5 books, but some do have colorful page edges, so that's fun. Middle grade mysteries set in 1930s.

batsy So pretty! I've been meaning to read this series for the longest time. 3y
JudeCC Love the colors. My personal opinion, UK covers are prettier than US ones most of the times. 3y

A brilliant setting and great detective writing and this time round Hazel has the spotlight on her.
This is the sixth book in the series. Hazel returns home to Hong Hong as her beloved grandfather has passed away. There‘s a new member of the family to meet too. Tragedy strikes very close to home and Hazel is framed for murder. The dynamic pairing of Daisy and Hazel must confront dangerous situations in order to clear Hazel‘s name.

Another in this series about two young girls who form a detective society. This time the girls are in Hong Kong as Hazel's grandfather has died. And as usual a murder happens and they are on the spot to solve it! #crimebooks

Like the Harry Potter books, as the girls get older, so the books get more adult. This has the highest amount of personal peril yet for Hazel and has the most adult look at the racial dynamics of the girls‘ lives and in of Hazel‘s life in Hong Kong. And the mystery is great. Also I now want to read loads more about 1930s Hong Kong!

The sixth in Robin Stevens‘s crime series for children aged 9+ is probably the best yet combining another twisting mystery with great character development for both Hazel and Daisy (especially as we see more of Hazel‘s family and her interaction with them) and a great location in 1930s Hong Kong that combines the Western and Chinese elements very well such that I‘m already desperate to see what happens to the girls next.

This dropped onto my kindle this morning, so of course I‘m reading it right now and hang the consequences of having to wait again for the next one!
