At times this was a little too detailed for me, but I think it helps add to the reality of what the main character was going through. I did enjoy this book and it describes in a lot of detail the sad reality of ALS.
Finally a new library book came in! Just in time for my first lazy Saturday in a while.
I really like Lisa Genova, but for some reason I‘d been putting off reading this one. My mom passed away last month from complications of ALS after battling it for 15 years. My timing for reading this may seem odd given that fact, but I felt it calling me. This wasn‘t my favorite Genova book, but I still enjoyed it.
After searching forever for a Little Free Library anywhere near me someone not 5 minutes from my house just put one up!! I went over and dropped off 3 books and picked up these 2! I‘ve got more books stacked in my car to take over soon…it was already pretty full so I could only put in 3.
Another installment of #12AuthorsIn22
Day 3 Lisa Genova #Fiction #Medical
The first book I read by her was Left Neglected. It was amazing! Have you read any of these?
An accomplished concert pianist, Richard received standing ovations from audiences all over the world in awe of his rare combination of emotional resonance and flawless technique.
Richard now has ALS, and his entire right arm is paralyzed - a loss on so many levels 🎼

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️My Mom passed away due to ALS on September 22, 2018. Lisa did a very good job o describing what it is like to see your loved one struggle and die. This was hard for me to read so I read it in short bits.
The touching story of a world renowned musician whose career and life is devastated by onset of ALS. Enter #fear and depression. But hope is on the horizon when an unexpected #caregiver comes into his life...

How about music notes?! 🎶 I couldn‘t find an instrument!! 🤷🏼♀️🤣

“From neuroscientist and New York Times bestselling author of Still Alice comes a powerful exploration of regret, forgiveness, freedom, and what it means to be alive.” I would read anything Genova writes.

Still somehow busier than ever during quarantine! So not many books read. Every Note Played and Tea Girl we‘re favorites. #swensonreads #swensonreads20
I read this beautiful book yesterday on my friend Dan‘s birthday. He died after a 25 yr war against ALS. Our communication was often email, and It was a great effort for his eyes to create a sentence. I once wrote him reminiscing of our glorious fictional day in NYC, walking through Central Park sharing a coney dog. I had to apologize for years after because even fictional - he decided I owed him a better imaginary meal!

If I have to travel for work, the least I can do is support the local book store. 🤷♀️ Bargain books! And, of course, a couple of new bookmarks, and a new coffee cup for my desk, and...and...
And the #TBR grows.
I am really enjoying spending a few days off reading my backlist, but, wow will this book make you cry. Genova is so good at writing such poignant stories about not only these horrible diseases (which she takes such care of doing), but the emotional impact of the ailing person, and family, friends and caregivers. Have a tissue box ready.
I loved one of these workers in the story. These are amazing people, those who care for the terminally ill, and with diseases where bit-by-bit, someone needs to help with everything. Have to admit, though, that I didn‘t (at least for the first bit of the book) like either Richard or Karina. But, we learn more about them, their relationship, their histories, and how they ended up where they are as the story goes on.
Omg, a MOST excellent read!! It's been a while since a book had me snotty nose sobbing (the acknowledgements even more so).
Lisa Genova is a must read author!! ❤️❤️
Listening to the last 30 minutes of this audiobook while I tackle my Medical Keyboarding lesson. I keep tearing up though, so it‘s hard to see what I‘m typing. Heartbreaking, but lovely. Lisa Genova is a fantastic writer, and I‘ve loved all the books I‘ve read by her. I have a few more on my shelf, but I‘ll need a bit of a break before I read another one. They‘re heart wrenchingly real. ♥️

In total, I read 16 books in June. 🥳🥳
10 print books
3 ebooks
3 audiobooks
And I‘m officially 15 books behind on my GR challenge. 😆😱🤷🏼♀️
The best book I read in June had to be Rabbit. Fantastic!
Richard is a revered concert pianist. Cocky and self assured, he‘s recently become a bachelor after the demise of his marriage. Everything changes once he is diagnosed with ALS. Suddenly his passion and livelihood is unobtainable. Richard is forced to face this ugly disease, and confront the regrets and despair of a life cut short.
I finished quarter 2 of #booked2019 last night. 🥳🥳

#indigenousauthor: The Break
#featuresamusician: Every Note Played
G got to go to work with daddy today, so Flo and I made a quick Sbux run and now it‘s time for some reading before we move poolside, where hopefully there‘s even more reading!
A heartbreaking, no-apologies story about ALS. This is my first Genova book and It feels honest and true. I liked that it taught much about the debilitating disease, and at the same time focused on its effect on the relationship of the characters. Highly recommended!
And I will read more of her books, just not right away 😅

My plans for April-read, read, read!!!!! 🤩Any feedback on these titles is more than welcome and appreciated. 💕
Took this pic in the dark at 2:00am. Sitting here with tears dripping everywhere. I read this for #Booked2019 for the Features a Musician category. This book is about a man with ALS and is as brutal and as sad as you would expect. Still, most definitely worth the read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heartbreakingly real. Eye opening. Fiction but yet could be non-fiction... helps you realize the helpless terror of losing your life to a disease that comes out of nowhere. Like walking into a glass door when you fully expected to continue taking a step into the sunshine lit outdoors.
"Everything begins and ends. Every day and night, every concerto, every relationship, every life. Everything ends eventually."
A very honest, bare and heartbreaking story of ALS and the effects it has on everyone involved. Wonderfully written.
Heartbreaking. Incredibly insightful portrayal of ALS and its devastating consequences. A beautiful depiction of lives torn apart by decisions and lives healed through repentance. I was completely trapped in ALS‘s grip through Lisa Genova‘s carefully crafted words and descriptions. #lisagenova@lisagenova
Such a heartbreaking read about the devastating progression of ALS. Reading this on my kindle and feeling the profound loss of the main character. Lisa Genova has captured the loss in beautifully written sentences. #als#loss#everynoteplayed#lisagenova
I am at the annual Tucson Festival of Books at the University of Arizona and I met author Lisa Genova and Lorna Luft (Judy Garland‘s daughter). I listened to their presentations and got both my books signed. 🤩
An unflinching look at a gifted concert pianist diagnosed with ALS and his family. Lisa Genova draws heavily from her experience as a neuroscientist and real life knowledge to paint an intimate portrait of a debilitating disease.

Richard is a concert pianist who has spent his life following his passion while neglecting his family. Karina gave up her own career to support Richard and raise their daughter. One day, Richard feels a tingle in one finger. Soon, he‘s lost control of his hand and received a diagnosis: ALS. Karina becomes his reluctant caretaker.
A moving portrayal of a couple and the brutal disease that forces them to finally forgive themselves and each other.
My sweet bestie!!! Thank you Sher!! I love everything! This sweet bestie book is awesome!! Your friendship is such a blessing to me! ❤️❤️❤️ Love you!!
I don‘t cry at books, only movies. I teared up at the 2nd to last chapter & sobbed at the last one. It‘s possible that this was triggered by the fact that I had Chopin‘s Nocturne in E flat Major (which is mentioned in the last chapter) playing at the same time, as I am a 🎶 lover. This book was an emotional read that I truly enjoyed. I highly recommend it, & having your streaming music service ready to listen to the music mentioned as you read.
Well, my eyes are slowly getting worse, and I‘m supposed to limit reading and computer time as much as possible. So, I loaded up on audiobooks for now.
Have a follow up doctors appointment on Wednesday to go over bloodwork. Hopefully they can figure out the cause.
This may be my last post for a while because I need to rest my eyes as much as possible. Merry Christmas and happy holidays, thanks to everybody for your support and encouragement. 💛
Just finished for book club . Mixed feelings. Loved the acknowledgments. I got a lot out of reading these.
A first for me, trying to have empathy for a character I didn‘t particularly like.
I‘ve just been to see the movie The Children‘s Act with Emma Thompson. I could see her playing the lead female role if this book ever made into a movie.Certainly educated me about motor neurone disease . So sad.
Ok, so this was good but not great IMO. I love the way Genova uses quality fiction to teach us about real conditions, but I don‘t think she nailed it here.
Her novel Still Alice was incredibly good & taught me a lot about dementia. I related to and felt for the well developed characters.
In Every Note Played the characters were not as well drawn. A worthwhile read though & I‘m glad to have learnt some more about the devastation of MND/ALS.
My #currentread for book club.
When you know the book is about ALS (or MND as we call it in Australia) you know it‘s not likely to be an uplifting read 😢. And of course with Genova‘s amazing research skills, ability to write and her background in neuroscience you know it‘s gonna be a well put together book. But oh my it‘s depressing. Must. Read. On.
@TheLibrarian #70kgiveaway
Congratulations! What an amazing milestone 😊
Picking just one book is almost impossible! I could maybe narrow it down to five LOL 😂
I guess I would have to pick Every Note Played by Lisa Genova but seriously, there were at least four more that were so close it was almost a tie!
