I carried this book with me to WA as my backup book (I read one on the flight there). I‘m a hospice volunteer and I love hearing others‘ stories! The author shares how she became a hospice nurse, some life stories of her patients, and some of their more ‘other worldly‘ ones too. Yes, these moments happen all the time! When finished, I donated it to a little free library that was in a lovely garden in SeaTac.

1. Started organizing our library/game room again.
2. Husband is learning how to prepare meals for our dogs, which means we can share that task.
3. Had a screening appointment with a private pay clinic that specializes in hormone treatments and scored an appointment with one of their doctors.
4. Pups had their annual check and they‘re both really healthy.
5. I left a whole bunch of Facebook groups. Down to 15 🙌🏼

MemoirsForMe Your pups are adorable! I closed my FB account last year and I don‘t miss it. Plus I‘ve been reading so much more. 3w
Texreader I‘ve felt very lucky with my new gyn Dr. but so much more I need to learn. Is the tagged book helpful? 3w
DogMomIrene @MemoirsForMe I‘ve been debating closing my FB, but I do have friends and family there who I primarily interact with there. I may give it another year and reassess. 3w

DogMomIrene @Texreader I didn‘t care for the TikTok Doc‘s book because it was too simplistic and she kept hawking her own line of supplements and diet book 3w
MemoirsForMe Your plan is a good one! My sister is on FB, so she keeps me posted on the family and friends without me having to scroll. 3w

The Mutter Museum in Philadelphia is absolutely fascinating. One of their featured exhibits is a wall of human skulls. The tagged book is a excellent story of not only Dr. Mutter, but warring physicians at the dawn of modern medicine, the formation of the American medical college, and so much more.

AmyG Oddly amazing. My grandfather was a dentist and he had a skull. We always wondered who it was. There is a Stephen King book in there somewhere. 1mo
TieDyeDude @amyg Grandma is always watching 😉 1mo

Eggs Fascinating 🖤💀🧡 1mo
Doppoetry I've visited the museum before (it's a lot smaller than I anticipated) and it's such an interesting place. It has a reputation to be spooky and macabre but I found it educational and unique 😆 human bodies truly are fascinating. 1mo

Antidote for Everything | Kimmery Martin

Georgia is a urologist in the south. She is fiercely independent, a fact her bosses hate, and her best friend Jonah loves. When one of their careers is on the line Georgia struggles with making the right decisions...

This one sucked me in right away, the characters feel so alive. It also gives voice to some very serious subject matter. Themes include suicide attempt, addiction, discrimination, and sexual harrassment.

Written in a conversational style that is easy to read. The story was very frustrating, that Charlie was able to kill so many people for so many years and get away with it. When he was finally captured, it was a relief. The ending chapters felt a little rushed.

I still remember the first time I was around a grieving acquaintance and found myself with lack of words. Then as a healthcare worker, I was witness to the awful quality of life patients face in hospice or certain places for assisted living. This book was so needed in the field, not only for providers to approach the difficult situation but also to offer to patients the autonomy to make the best decision for themselves at the end of their lives.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It‘s absurd that no one really wants to talk about menopause, healthcare providers included. Medical misogyny is real. If this was regarding men, they wouldn‘t be merely placated nor simply ignored. This is a fact of life for women, and is comparable to puberty, but in reverse. As I age, I realize I don‘t know enough about my own body. This is an excellent resource. Dr. Gunter has a knack for explaining, and keeps a keen sense of humor.

CoffeeK8 💯 I am researching this all now and there is such a lack of information! 1mo
britt_brooke @CoffeeK8 It‘s so frustrating! I‘m over 40 and knew next nothing nearly until recently. And that‘s because I‘m having health issues. I‘m okay, but still there‘s a severe lack of info. 1mo
CoffeeK8 Same! Like all of the sudden I‘m 45 and all these things are different! And why? The doctors are all like “🤷🏼‍♀️ you must be getting old” 1mo

britt_brooke @CoffeeK8 Right! And that‘s not helpful. “Getting old” doesn‘t quite cut it at this point. I‘ll soon be 43 and finally someone is listening, thankfully. And because of that I‘m having a hysterectomy soon which is probably a year or so overdue. 1mo
jdiehr I am having such a hard time getting to menopause! I'm 54 and still dealing with all kinds of stuff. It's so frustrating. 1mo
LiteraryinPA I really relate to this conversation. Thanks for talking about it! 1mo
dabbe Same here. I went from pre to post menopause (with all the fun things like night sweats, day sweats, blink-suddenly-the-wrong-way sweats ...) and then starting bleeding again. 😳 LOTS of tests and crap later, a hysterectomy two years ago. Luckily I did find a female doctor who did the surgery and who was so helpful and listened to every ache and offered excellent care. It took a long time, though. 1mo
CoffeeK8 @britt_brooke I have an appointment next week with an online provider recomended by a friend who is supposedly actually really helpful 1mo
CoffeeK8 @LiteraryinPA there are some really good people on Instagram who are helpful as well 1mo
IuliaC This is a great book! I also found useful this one on the same subject 1mo
britt_brooke @jdiehr How frustrating. Hope you get some relief soon. 🩷 1mo
britt_brooke @LiteraryinPA This right here is exactly why I love litsy. Thanks for engaging. It‘s such an important topic for us. 🩷 1mo
britt_brooke @dabbe Oh my gosh, that‘s so frustrating! I‘m so happy you finally found someone who took it seriously, but that it took years is unreal. I had to push my female primary care NP a bit, but she finally came through, and ordered a pelvic ultrasound which revealed 3 medium sized fibroids as the root of my “issues.” She then referred me to a wonderful female GYN. 1mo
britt_brooke @IuliaC Stacking - thank you! 1mo
britt_brooke @Soubhiville Stacking - thanks! 1mo
dabbe @britt_brooke Are we twinning or what? I also had 3 fibroids that were what was making me bleed! What are the chances of that? We should both buy lottery tickets or something! 🤩😂🤗 1mo
britt_brooke @dabbe Split the winnings! 😂🩷 1mo
Suet624 At least word is getting out about the situation. Imagine those of us old ladies or our mothers who were offered nada. I don‘t even know if women like my mother even talked about it in public. 3w
britt_brooke @Suet624 I know. 😔 Thankfully we‘re getting there. 3w

Not a “comfort” read, but SO important. Should be required reading for anyone who won‘t remain young nor live forever (yes, every one of us).

451Degrees Loved this one so much. A reread will soon be in order myself! 1mo
Readerann @451Degrees Yes, it‘s one I definitely will be revisiting as well. 1mo
