So creepy and so good. King just writes the most delicious sentences sometimes, here‘s one of my favorites: But when fall comes, kicking summer out on its treacherous ass as it always does one day sometime after the midpoint of September, it stays awhile like an old friend that you have missed.

November's #LosersClub #buddyread was a very atmospheric read. Very creepy, disturbing but thrilling read. It's my 1st time reading this and it's one of his best horror books.
I particularly enjoyed the nod to Bram Stoker with the epistolary record of Charles Boone, 1850. It certainly added more context to the longevity of evil at 'Salem's Lot.

It‘s sooo squishy!!! Thanks for the thoughtful package @KaylasReadingNook I love it 😻 I‘ve not read this Stephen King yet, and I‘m looking forward to enjoying everything. I‘m pretty sure that puppy is nefarious, too. Right?

“I think it‘s relatively easy for people to accept something like telepathy or precognition or teleplasm because their willingness to believe doesn‘t cost them anything. It doesn‘t keep them awake nights. But the idea that the evil that men do lives after them is more unsettling.”

Just a reminder that November‘s #LosersClub read is #SalemsLot Put your library holds in now, search your shelves, or buy a new copy, and check back on or about October 1st, when we begin reading this one. Discussion will be at the end of the month!

In the mood for some Stephen King in honor of Halloween coming up 🎃
Watching the 1979 miniseries #losersclub #stephenking
A great vampire story perfect for spooky season! I‘ll admit the first part it‘s difficult to keep track of all the new characters but as the story goes on and gets darker it‘s easy to see how each met their end in ‘Salem‘s Lot.
I‘m back on my #StephenKing hype train and I‘ve started with #SalemsLot. I really loved getting to know the town and all its (horrible) secrets. I definitely didn‘t expect such a big body count!

You don‘t have to read every book if you don‘t want to! The first three are Carrie, ‘Salem‘s Lot, and Rage. I will post a graphic of the first 15 books before we start!
I will post a reminder on the 23rd of the month before, and we will discuss around the 28th of the month!

Starting a spooky buddy read with some buddies! (You know who you are 😊💕)
I LOVE the cover of this version.
I‘ve tried to read this book several times since I was a teen, and it finally clicked for me. Right place, right time! The story was everything I‘ve come to expect from King: rich setting, sympathetic characters (and some not-so-sympathetic!), and creeping dread that I sometimes had to put down and walk away from for a bit. Very glad I finally managed to read this one, and I could see myself reading it again someday!
Ohhh, how did I not know Salem‘s Lot is a vampire story?! I do love a good vampire book and I loved King‘s version. Perfect October read! 🧛🏻♀️ #Pop23 ~a book published the year you were born #Booked2023 ~a modern take on a classic

So, I subscribed to Audible a few months ago because I was trying to finish the tagged book quickly before a book club meeting. I really enjoyed listening to the book, but when I went back and read it again in print, I realized I missed so much on audio. I‘m too easily distracted, & I don‘t think audiobooks are for me. I‘d rather that money go to a BOTM subscription. With that said, I still have 2 credits I need to use. So my question is…(cont ⬇️)
I guess, when some random bloke on a book app says that an author with nearly 50 years of worldwide success writes bloated, boring books, it‘s a bit like an out of shape footballer on Hackney Marshes saying he doesn‘t rate Lionel Messi. But the facts are, although I didn‘t bail (Like It) I skimmed. I wish I could “get” King but I think his best ideas are always reinterpreted better by movie makers. Tobe Hooper made ‘Salem‘s Lot iconic. This is dull
I‘m getting a jump start on horror season. Who am I kidding? It‘s horror season all year long for me. 💀🖤
Horror would be amongst my #LeastFaveGenre, enough to frighten you in life without purposely doing it by reading a book. Don‘t want the nightmares. Having said that I do enjoy Stephen King‘s non-horror books.
Also add on erotic fiction which I won‘t read.

Carrie might have kickstarted King‘s career, but it‘s ‘Salem‘s Lot that cemented him as a force of nature. This is a remarkable book, equal parts creepy and expansive. One part vampire tale, one part swan song for dwindling, small New England towns that seem to dry up as the world marches forward.
Jahoobies!
Not as terrifying as the original read when I was 20…or got locked in the freezer.
Haven‘t read in 20 years. Hoping it holds up
I can‘t believe I‘ve never read this. I also can‘t believe I didn‘t know Stephen King wrote a vampire book. I also also didn‘t know that ‘Salem was actually short for Jerusalem.
I loved this, and really enjoyed reading a vampire story that was actually scary, not sexy (or, worse, TRYING to be sexy). You can definitely tell that it‘s an early work, as there were a lot of loose ends that didn‘t get tied, plot points that that weren‘t followed ⬇️⬇️
Up next on audio! 🎧 Trying to get to some of Stephen King‘s backlist.

Needed to fill my car with gas and take it through the wash. After this, need to pick up a prescription. But still plenty of time to enjoy my book and some Panera.
I haven‘t had much time/energy for reading between work and taking care of health stuff, but I had to do some fasting labs this morning and stopped for breakfast after (jasmine latte and egg and cheese sandwich).
Enjoyed breakfast for lunch (eggs, hash browns, and a chocolate chip pancake) at the counter of my favorite cafe while reading my book before heading to my infusion treatment for my Crohn‘s. Had a nice conversation with a couple waitresses about what books we were reading, too. Perfect way to start a weekend.
This is a slow burner, laced with dread; as is most of King‘s work. King is the only author who makes me feel genuine fear. He has an uncanny ability to write small towns and lifelike characters, and this is evidently displayed in ‘salems lot.
My first foray into vampires, and these are definitely not the ‘sparkly‘ kind. Another solid book from the master himself!
“‘Sounds more like the Good Humor man to me,‘ Parkins said, and tapped his ash into the vase again.”
“Matt stood on his stoop for almost a full minute after the sound of the car had died away, his hands poked into his jacket pockets, his eyes turned toward the house on the hill.”
