Hello fellow littens!
I haven't posted in, well... quite some time. Two years to be precise. I don't know what came up to me today but here I am, wanting to pop in and say hi. Hope everyone's safe in this difficult time.
Oh, by the way, I re-read The Great Gatsby (which I didn't love the first time around), and really loved it this time.
Sleep tight! Bye

wordslinger42 Nice to have you back!! The Great Gatsby used to be a favorite of mine, but I haven't read it in a long time! 4y
Lucy_Anywhere Welcome back! 4y
paulfrankspencer It is a joy to see you back! And I reread Gatsby recently; loved it as much as always, and it's so short it's an easy one to revisit. 4y

1. L'amore è eterno finchè non risponde
Les liasons dangereuses
The neverending story (still. I know.)

2. I really can't remember 😅 I've been binge-watching Riverdale on Netflix lately, so I don't have much time left! It was probably Dirty Dancing...

3. Hot infusion, possibly with fennel seeds!

ssravp 1. Star Wars: Queen‘s Shadow
2. Captain Marvel
3. Coffee
6y
SailorMoon @ssravp nice! How was Captain Marvel? 6y
ssravp @SailorMoon It was great! I‘ve seen it twice! 6y
JazzFeathers You don't like The Neverending Story? I read it a couple of Christmases ago after some 3 decades (was obsessed with it as a kid). Yes, l saw its shortcoming, but l still loved it. 6y
SailorMoon @JazzFeathers no no, don't get me wrong!!! I like it!!! It's just that I haven't had much time to read lately, so I started an audiobook and another short paper book instead! I will be finishing it as soon as I have some time off, because the story is really catchy and it reminds me of when I was a kid! 😉 6y

I'll start! Can't wait for you to join me! 🤟🏻🌙💕

1. Italia 🇮🇹

2. USA 🇺🇸 I actually studied in California for some time, and I really want to go back!

3. Italia once again! Even though I like reading books that take place somewhere else in order to really escape for a while!

4. PASTA AND PIZZA, OF COURSE!!!
In my hometown, the typical food is the
donkey stew with polenta!

5. Love, everyone!!!

JazzFeathers I mean, donkey stew and polenta? Don't tell me you're from Veneto too! 6y
SailorMoon @JazzFeathers ahah no no, I'm from Piemonte ? I didn't know it was a specialty from Veneto too!!! We call it "tapulone" ? and every restaurant makes it in September for the "Festa dell'Uva"... tapulone, polenta and a lot red wine!!!!!!!!!! You should come sometime!!! 6y
JazzFeathers @SailorMoon l just might! Though l don't think l'd be able to eat it. We also have horse stew and polenta. I ate it once, l long time ago, it was good. But l don't think today l'd could, knowing it's horse. You know... 6y
See All 10 Comments
SailorMoon @JazzFeathers I totally get it. I once hate a cow's tongue not knowing it was tongue, and I actually like it! I can't eat it anymore now that I know what it is though... 😱🤯 btw the original tapulone is made of donkey's meat, but normally you get it served with beef meat. If you're ever in my area, please text! 😉 6y
JazzFeathers @SailorMoon You bet! 😀👌 6y

hgrimes @SailorMoon Rome and Florence, all the touristy spots! I would really love to visit Sicily someday, which is where my grandparents came from. 6y
SailorMoon @hgrimes you probably picked the two most beautiful cities here! Well, Venezia is in line with them!!! Oh Sicily is amazing, it's all sunny and colourful!!! I went there over fifteen years ago, and I have nothing but good memories! If you're ever in Italia, please text 😉 6y

A colleague of mine suggested I read this book... eventually, I will.
Opinions? Has anyone else read it?

Elizabeth2 I read this so long ago, but I remember it being an excellent novel. At the time, Koontz was a go to author for me - I‘d read anything by him. 6y
SailorMoon @Elizabeth2 thanks for your opinion! Have you ever read anything by Gillian Flynn? They're crime novels with a lot of psychology hints in them. I'm wondering if this is the case? Is this author this good, I am curious! 6y
Elizabeth2 @SailorMoon I have read Gillian Flynn, and I like her. Dean Koontz is an excellent author, especially his older works (like this one). Sometimes, I can‘t read his books after dark or when I‘m alone in the house because they are that creepy. Many times his have elements of supernatural or fantasy in them, which is where he differs from Flynn. While Flynn‘s novels are disturbing they don‘t have the same edge of horror that Koontz does. (edited) 6y
See All 8 Comments
Elizabeth2 @SailorMoon but I don‘t find Koontz as scary as Stephen King. I love the psychological thriller genre, and Koontz is very good at it. 6y
SailorMoon @Elizabeth2 you foresaw my next question... I was wondering about it having supernatural elements in it, because I really don't like when the story doesn't stay "real" and down to earth. That's why I love Gillian Flynn so much, or Camila Läckberg. Thanks for the heads up! 6y
SailorMoon @Elizabeth2 I've only read one by SK and I've been told it's the only not scary he's ever written... 11/22/63 😅 6y
Elizabeth2 @SailorMoon I used to read King quite a bit when I was in my late teens/early 20s, but after Pet Sematary (which I couldn‘t finish) I wasn‘t as much of a fan. I did like Misery and Delores Claiborne, which are both disturbing psychological thrillers without that horror element. 6y

I am not looking for this kind of posts on purpose, I guess the universe is trying to tell me something 🤣

Thought this one was worth sharing too!

What do you do when you feel down and to the edge of a breakdown? I normally shut down, isolate myself for a while and binge-watch a tv show... or read a book. Whatever makes me stay in bed, warm and in a cozy environment. Or I have dinner with my parents, this also helps me 💕

Naj Listening to ABBA always works for me. Other than that watching a cheesy rom-com so that I can make fun of it and feel a little better about myself 🙈 6y
tdrosebud @Naj ABBA is soooooo awesome! I love them. 6y

Saw this on FB and thought it was worth sharing.

I've been going through a dark and rough patch in my life, but trying to accept who I am and what's happening to me and around me by admitting that "that's okay", could be a game-changer. I'll "just" have to really put my mind to it.

I would love to thank everyone for being a great community where there's no judgement, where we share common interests, where we accept each other ??

SailorMoon Plus, Litsy is making me proud of myself for reading at least twice as much as I used to due to the desire of sharing my thoughts on books and reading yours.

SailorMoon @cathysaid this is so inspiring! I was told by my therapist that I also need to think of myself from the outside once in a while and consider myself as another person to give advice to. Like a best friend. I would totally feel sorry for my bff if she was just mentally hurting herself the way I do myself! Thanks for the tip, I needed to hear your story and advice 💕 6y
KathyWheeler @SailorMoon I‘ve gotten upset with my children for hurting themselves the way I hurt myself. 😞 6y
SailorMoon @KathyWheeler I think I would do that too, if I were a parent. I hope your kids are feeling better, or at least working on it! My parents get really mad at me sometimes for the many ways I hurt myself mentally, bu I guess it's because they feel powerless towards something only I can really do something for. 6y
KathyWheeler @SailorMoon For me, with my kids, it is partly that I feel powerless, as you say, and partly guilt because I taught them that beating up on yourself was a thing to do. We are all working on being less harsh on ourselves. 6y

Short book by Thomas More about the fictional island of Utopia, a place where people live in peace, working for the common good and private property does not exist. A "utopic" place, in fact.
A lot of what it says it's kind of predictable, no news for us here. Consider reading it in the XVI century though and you might find why it is believed to be so innovative.
I'm just halfway through it, but so far it is really interesting!

Here is yet again the same #creepycover!
This book is simply mind-blowing. I had no idea of the religious legacy we still have nowadays towards women. The Sacred Books of every religion consider the woman an inferior and mere posession of the man, and religion has always been a big part of our heritage. This is why we have to fight so hard now to make ourselves be considered as equal. This is why we sometimes don't consider ourselves as equal 👇🏼

SailorMoon I am not against religion. I am an atheist, but I respect every religion and people who believe in it. I still think that everyone should read this book, though. You can be a true Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, whatever and still read this book, because it's not against religion... it's against how religion has considered women through the ages. It's really mindblowing. 6y

I started this today, and I'm already 1/2 through it. I'm pretty positive it hasn't been translated in English yet, but the title is "God hates women". It's volutarily provocative, meaning that it tries to explain our cultural roots through religion and how it still impacts us not only in positive ways such as "don't steal, turn the other cheek, etc".
It goes deep into infibulation, menstruation, patriarchal hierarchy... it's sadly interesting.

I've just finished listening to the audiobook of Victor Hugo's "Notre Dame De Paris", and I have to admit I might be too biased to review it properly.
I absolutely ADORE the musical, I know it by heart (I even have a quote tattooed on my ankle!)... it was about time I got around to "read" the book!
It's pretty dreary when it comes to descriptions, but as for the rest... it's a great story of love, hate, lust and... Paris.
I strongly recommend it!

I work in fashion, so yes a lot to do with fabrics LOL it's amazing, although I now see clothes as work, therefore I can't enjoy shopping anymore (which is good for my wallet!!!!!!!!)! 6y
Chelseabillups30 @SailorMoon, it‘s really fine!! More work for you if you screenshot and repost though, lol. Whatever you want to do. 6y
Chelseabillups30 And I can definitely see how you‘d get tired of clothes shopping after doing things with patterns all day! So does that require a lot of drawing? Sewing? How did you land on that as your day job? 6y
Chelseabillups30 And when you do go shopping, do you find yourself making judgements inside your head like, “That looks terrible together!” Or “That‘s the most beautiful combination I‘ve ever seen!!” or do you save those types of reactions for your work? 6y
SailorMoon @Chelseabillups30 thanks for your interest 💕 well it does require a lot of drawing, although it's mostly done through computer softwares now! I landed on this path because my family (from my great-grand parents to my grandparents, my parents and other relatives) has always worked in the field, so I was kind of born into it, even though my interest has developed kind of late... I wanted to be a journalist back in university! 6y
SailorMoon @Chelseabillups30 I don't normally judge based on my personal taste... I don't judge at all because I see the gard work that is hidden behind even a simple t-shirt. What I do is be more aware of what I buy: I look for good hems, good sewings, good fits and stuff like that 😉 what do you do for a living? 6y

So much I loved him in the Disney version, so much I hate him now that I'm "reading" Notre Dame De Paris.
He loves Esmeralda, but runs to Fleur-de-lys as soon as he realizes she is going to be hanged so he can't have her anymore. She is incriminated for his murder, and he doesn't even have the decency to show up (like "hey there! I'm alive!") and save her. At least for now.
I hope his character will turn out to be better than he is right now.

Today's progress on Notre Dame De Paris.
Not bad. Not bad at all! ??

(I had a lot of time in the car, driving back and forth from work to a doctor's appointment)
I am getting used to audiobooks, I can "read" twice as much now that I listen to them in the car!

Birdsong28 I wasn't really into audiobooks till I came on here and I totally agree with you that you can read twice as much. I walk back and forth to work so it's 20 mins each way that I 'read' so it's making use of that time more efficiently. 📚📖 6y
paulfrankspencer Thank you for putting that in quotes. I don't want to step on any toes, as I know it's a hot debate and listening to a book is better than not, but listening is a totally different experience from reading. 6y
SailorMoon @paulfrankspencer I totally agree with you. Two different experiences, although what's important (in my opinion) is that the books are still enjoyable... no matter what. I will keep quoting this "audiobook reading" thing. 6y
See All 13 Comments
paulfrankspencer @SailorMoon yep. And enjoyment comes from why you're reading in the first place. I personally don't read for story so much. I read for the writing. So listening to an audiobook completely defeats the purpose of reading for me. For others, it's exactly what they're looking for. Different priorities, and that's ok. 6y
SailorMoon @paulfrankspencer I know what you mean. There are books that I prefer reading on paper because I like the author's style, or because I want to improve my grammar, or even because I feel like it's something I want to focus more my attention on (like for thrillers). Some other books I just like listening to for the sole purpose of knowing the story. May I ask you if you have a job book-related? Or is it "just" passion what I read between the lines? 6y
SailorMoon @Birdsong28 same here!!! I have to drive 2h back and forth to go to work... so I can now use my time more efficiently as you said!!! 6y
Birdsong28 @paulfrankspencer I think you get the tone of words/sentences better on an audiobook as the tone sometimes doesn't come through on the page so you miss out on how the author meant it. So you get a better sense of the story as how the tone comes across can change the perception of the story and what the reader gets out of it. 6y
paulfrankspencer @SailorMoon my full-time job is not at all book related. But I write, edit, and publish on the side. Someday it's gonna be my main gig. That's the idea, anyway. So yes, reading is kind of part of my job and I take it seriously. 6y
paulfrankspencer @Birdsong28 I think that's half the fun of reading, too. Determining the tone for yourself based on the words. Or accepting the ambiguity of tone of written word. It's difficult to maintain that ambiguity when the words are spoken. Then again, hearing someone else read it could very well introduce you to a way of reading that you wouldn't think of otherwise. There are benefits to both and we can keep talking in circles on this topic. 6y
SailorMoon @paulfrankspencer exactly. When it all comes down to this, I usually go for a "de gustibus non disputandum est". I agree with you that deciding the tone is half the fun of reading. Although, I also like when there is no ambiguity to it... so when it's read by someone else. I guess it depends on the book. I hope your writing dreams will come true. Is there anything published online I can look up, if you don't mind me asking? 6y
paulfrankspencer I post to a blog at bgfg77.com. Lots of different stuff on there. I've also written a couple books, both non-fiction. I'll turn to fiction next, I believe. 6y
paulfrankspencer @SailorMoon I'm flattered that you ask. Thanks! 6y
SailorMoon I'll make sure to check the blog from time to time, thanks for sharing!!! Nice talking to you, going to sleep now! Good luck! 6y

Notre Dame de Paris | Victor Hugo

This quote I feel really connected to, though I do not completely agree.
I almost completely lost the sight from an eye after a car crash, but I feel blessed everyday to still be here and be able to see with the other one.
So yes, I DO know what I am lacking, but I am also grateful for what I still have. I don't think it's fair to compare my difficulties to the ones a blind person faces everyday.
We should all count our blessings, not our losses.

SailorMoon This doesn't mean I never allow myself to feel blue or depressed over it. It just means that I now appreciate more what I have instead of taking it for granted. Everyone should be free to feel blessed or blue as much as they need and want! 6y
MallenNC My mom lost sight in one eye in an accident when she was a little girl (maybe 3). She said she said her mother if everyone else saw two of everything. I don't think she'd agree with this quote either. She's grateful for her healthy eye. 6y
SailorMoon @MallenNC I am so sorry for your mom, I totally sypmathize (if it's the right word for it!) with her! But you know... the human body can be truly amazing sometimes and help you get used even to big changes such as this one. So I guess we should agree to disagree with the author on this quote! 6y
SailorMoon @MallenNC we could apply it to any other context though... like a person who's been in love before and has lost it probably suffers more because of the lack of it than a person who's never been in love. I guess! 6y

I posted a picture for #frideas but it got lost in the upload because of the bad connection.

Wish You Were Here | Pink Floyd

What a nice idea!!!
#MarchIntoThe70s! @Lizpixie @Cinfhen

Day1: "Wish you were here"
I can't really think of a book connection, so I will go with a personal anecdote: back in HS, one of my professors was a huge Pink Floyd fan (she was definitely a daughter of the '68!)... so she turned her class into a Pink Floyd session for an hour each week, and made us study the lyrics and the music from some of their albums! It was amazing!!!

Lizpixie Wow. I wish I had that teacher. Though, my 4th grade teacher, when I was 9, was in a band & once a week after lunch, we‘d all sit on beanbags in the corner and he‘d play his guitar & teach us songs. I learnt a lot of The Beatles, Bob Dylan, folk songs & others.🎶🎵🎸 6y
Cinfhen Love both those memories @SailorMoon @Lizpixie 6y
