I almost really loved this book... And then it ended.

This is an entertaining and somewhat gripping tale that leaves the reader desperate for answers they will never receive. By the last page, Bryer has you questioning not only your interpretation of the book; but also whether you read the book correctly to begin with.

A story that will haunt the reader long after the final page has been turned.

“Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows”.

Such a brilliant read. I was put off reading this after being forced to read ‘Animal Farm‘ in high school (I‘ve always resented being forced to read books not of my own choosing). Needless to say I‘m happy to have picked this up and forged ahead anyway. It is incredibly powerful, frighteningly insightful and so very relevant to our world today 👁

This was an odd read, but I really enjoyed it. I‘m not usually one for anything focused on modern history, but by blending African-American history with mystical tales of witches and curses, Moore managed to have me hooked from the start. The only thing that I think may have added to the book is more detail on each of the characters - I found I just didn‘t develop any strong attachments to these characters. Overall though, a pretty great read 👍🏼

KathrynElise Also works for the #popsugar2019 prompt: “A book written by an author from Asia, Africa or South America” (Moore was born in Liberia 🇱🇷) 5y

Quite enjoyed this one. It was a bit of a slow burn but I loved the way everything tied in together towards the end. I found it offered some interesting characters and perspectives; and I really appreciated the attention to detail. Overall a light, mostly-upbeat read that is still a little thought-provoking and gives you a sense of satisfaction when you‘re done 👌🏼🎟

Beautifully written, just a little disappointed in the storyline. Going into this, I think I was just hoping for something a little more uplifting, and I didn‘t * really * get what I was looking for.. I really enjoyed this book. It‘s a quick, easy read but it still delivered great story and fairly well-developed characters given the length of the book. I particularly liked the way Emily was written - she may be an A.I. (or an “A.C.” if you ask her) but she still came across as an extremely relatable character and that definitely added to my appreciation of Wheaton‘s work.

Also using this for my #popsugar19 “uni campus” read 👩🏼‍🏫

blank Gah! I just bought Milkman on audio! Nooo. Why didn't you like it? 5y
KathrynElise @laurenslibrary haha don‘t panic! I really struggled reading the book (mainly because of the style it was written in and the “voice” it was written in). I ended up downloading the audiobook and i enjoyed it far more that way because the narrator is actually Irish... Just made it easier for me to comprehend and relate to that way, when I didn‘t have to “interpret” it in my own head 😊 I didn‘t love the book but can definitely appreciate it! 5y
BiblioLitten I bailed on The Milkman. I appreciate the writing and the theme but it was becoming a struggle and I wasn‘t enjoying it. Maybe I‘ll pick it up if there‘s a buddy read. 5y

KathrynElise @BiblioLitten my experience exactly. I read about 2/3 of it and couldn‘t go any further but wanted to be able to discuss it properly at book club. So I downloaded the audiobook and it was a completely different experience - highly recommend it if you struggled with actually reading it. Wouldn‘t say it was “enjoyable” but I definitely appreciated the story and the writing more 👍🏼 5y

When I started this I was looking for an epic fantasy, and I got what I wanted.

This book is a bit of a chunkster, but I honestly would have been happy if it was triple the size as I just didn‘t want this tale to end. It‘s a beautiful and detailed fantasy full of powerful characters and themes; and Shannon did an excellent job of delivering a tale of such grand proportions so completely and in so few pages.
