Back to my childhood. Adventure with a raggedy group of fantastical characters. Trying to save the Shaggy man's brother from the Gnome King. I wonder if Cornelia Funke was inspired by this series. The gnomes seemed very similar. Onomatopoeia in its title. #PopSugar2022

This month‘s #MGBuddyRead was another excellent MG historical fiction piece, so it fits in well with my #MiddleGradeMarchThroughTime list. I was too young in ‘86 to be aware of the Challenger launch and disaster, but not so young that I was unaware of the general mood of the country and I can tell they really got that right. Things like the parents‘ conflicts over women‘s rights and the social conflicts the kids face at school all felt spot on.
I finished up the last book for #LMPBC #Round13 #GroupP & I‘ll get it in the mail ASAP. This was a lot of fun and I flew through it. I thought it was really original and made some bold character choices. I‘m glad it was part of this round. I love how different all our picks were! #LGTBQBookBingo #TimeTravel #BBRC Teen Angst Cyberpunk #PopSugar2022 #ProtagonistWhoUsesAMobilityAid @bibliobard @WanderingBookaneer @phantomx @Kenyazero @LibrarianRyan
Set in the 50s in San Francisco‘s Chinatown, this is the quintessential coming out story. It forces us all to ask ourselves the question, if we were faced with the same choice, would we slip quietly back into the fold of family life, or would we stand up and say this is who I am! It‘s always so nice to come back to a Jane Austen book. While I love chapter-a-day reads because I get to savor something and spend drawn out relaxed time with it, this is the first time I‘ve finished a #pemberlitten book feeling like I missed something by not reading it straight through, so I may make time to come back to this one later this year… #PopSugar2022 #ABookSetInVictorianTimes
This YA dark mystery with a hint of the supernatural, set at an exclusive Swiss boarding school was a lot of fun. There were a few elements of the plot that were derivative, and had me wishing they were a bit more original, but I still found it really easy to get lost in the story. #LGBTQBookBingo #ARedCover #PopSugar2022 #ByALatinXAuthor #Booked2022 #DarkAcademiaNovel @Kenyazero @BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft
This did a pretty good job of blending fantasy/magical realism, traditional Korean folktales, and a modern story about growing up and finding your place in a family. I would go ahead and recommend this to a lot of MG readers because I see kids connecting with it from a number of different angles. #LGBTQBookBingo #OrangeCover #BBRC Middle Grade Caper #PopSugar2022 #ABookWithTigerOnCoverOrInTitle @Kenyazero @LibrarianRyan
5⭐️! If I got to make a required reading list for everyone in America this would be on it. It was highly emotional, & came at its subject matter from many angles. It also did a stellar job of capturing the vibe of growing up in NYC. I think the art was a big part of that that. It was entirely black & white, but expressive & energetic, & seemed to jump off the page in places.
