Today I went to my local bookstore for their New Year‘s Day sale! It‘s tradition! This year I got a tote bag I‘ve had my eye on, a Georgia O‘Keeffe calendar, some stickers, a candle, an ornament, and 2 books I want to read this year: The Light Eaters with #naturalitsy, and We Have Always Lived in the Castle. I even saw a friend! Good times!

This was an enjoyable collection of science fiction short stories. There are a lot of classic tropes, computers becoming sentient, time travel, alien invaders, BUT written by an aboriginal man from Canada these tropes take on a new twist.
Entertaining and educational, quotable and memorable, short and sweet!

Catching up on reviews!
This was a fun Xmastime PG-13 romance story. The main character owns a used bookstore in London but heads to her hometown for a week to stay in a castle for a friend‘s wedding. Romance blossoms in the castle garden with the head gardener!
Just what I hoped it would be for this type of book at this time of year!
Read if you like interracial couples, upper class/lower class battles, or plants.

Charles Hatfield traveled the country in the early 1900s promising to make it rain, taking $1000s from farmers & others. When he promised San Diego to fill their reservoirs for $10k, a burst dam nearly destroyed the entire city. The city then balked at paying the sum, suggesting god did it.
🌦️ Pseudo science, scam, or “the butterfly effect” - in any case an entertaining novelistic piece of history!

This book had so many good twists that I could not put it down at the end, and read past my bedtime to finish! This is maybe my favorite new (to me) author of the year.

P.S. I tried to buy it from my local Indy bookstore for my sister for Xmas. I was literally walking toward it, could see it, was 3 feet away, & a bookseller came around the corner and goes “Here it is! Last copy!” Grabs it & hands it to a lady! 😂

I loved it almost as much as the first. I say “almost” because this one had more life drama, but the joy, love, and red moleskin adventure between Dash & Lily still shined. And bonus, there‘s a bull mastiff named Boris.

I read 218/409 pages towards my goal. My fil was visiting us this weekend so I didn‘t make it, but the #WinterSolsticeReadathon still encouraged me to read when I could. It also pushed me to read an extra 21 minutes last night when I was ready for bed but wanted a nice, even 6 hours for #WinterGames24 😅

This is my 3rd by TJR and, wow, I love her writing! Very creative, and very exciting stories! I didn‘t think a parallel universe romance could be so rich and complex. I loved the friendship, multiple timelines, and the dog.

My sister and I are buddy reading this book and she‘s a faster reader than me. She texted me a few days ago and said Let me know when you get to p. 200! and yesterday while in line at the post office I did. I think I guffawed. I know I choked back laughter and had tears streaming down my face! I had to get a picture to let her know I got there in the most inconvenient place! (It‘s R-rated!) 😆
