A People Magazine Pick * US Weekly Must Pick Named Best Book of the Summer by Glamour * Good Housekeeping * USA TODAY * Cosmopolitan * PopSugar * Working Mother * Bustle * Goodreads From the acclaimed author of Forever, Interrupted and After I Do comes a breathtaking new novel about a young woman whose fate hinges on the choice she makes after bumping into an old flame; in alternating chapters, we see two possible scenarios unfoldwith stunningly different results. At the age of twenty-nine, Hannah Martin still has no idea what she wants to do with her life. She has lived in six different cities and held countless meaningless jobs since graduating college. On the heels of leaving yet another city, Hannah moves back to her hometown of Los Angeles and takes up residence in her best friend Gabbys guestroom. Shortly after getting back to town, Hannah goes out to a bar one night with Gabby and meets up with her high school boyfriend, Ethan. Just after midnight, Gabby asks Hannah if shes ready to go. A moment later, Ethan offers to give her a ride later if she wants to stay. Hannah hesitates. What happens if she leaves with Gabby? What happens if she leaves with Ethan? In concurrent storylines, Hannah lives out the effects of each decision. Quickly, these parallel universes develop into radically different stories with large-scale consequences for Hannah, as well as the people around her. As the two alternate realities run their course, Maybe in Another Life raises questions about fate and true love: Is anything meant to be? How much in our life is determined by chance? And perhaps, most compellingly: Is there such a thing as a soul mate? Hannah believes there is. And, in both worlds, she believes shes found him.

This is my 3rd by TJR and, wow, I love her writing! Very creative, and very exciting stories! I didn‘t think a parallel universe romance could be so rich and complex. I loved the friendship, multiple timelines, and the dog.
Read if you like Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, TJR, quantum mechanics science fiction, or found family.

My sister and I are buddy reading this book and she‘s a faster reader than me. She texted me a few days ago and said Let me know when you get to p. 200! and yesterday while in line at the post office I did. I think I guffawed. I know I choked back laughter and had tears streaming down my face! I had to get a picture to let her know I got there in the most inconvenient place! (It‘s R-rated!) 😆

The joys of a good buddy read!

💙ing the book btw.

Loved this book and the idea of the two parallel realities. Having lost the love of my life, my better half, my soul mate last year the final line of this book left me bawling at my desk at work. So so good. All the stars for this author, this book, and this #audiobook narrator!

At first I found it tiring jumping back and forth between two storylines, but as they progressed and I got more invested in both, it wasn‘t such a bother.

monkeygirlsmama I'm listening to this one right now, and I'm enjoying the split versions. 2w
AileenRR @monkeygirlsmama It‘s helpful that she makes it so easy follow while listening. Ordinarily I might need the paper version so I could flip back and remind myself what‘s going on 2w
monkeygirlsmama @AileenRR Agree. There was only one spot, maybe two, where I got slightly distracted for a second and then didn't know which version of the story I was in so had to rewind a bit. As a whole though I think she did a very good job of keeping them distinct enough to differentiate between. 2w

Just wonderful.
I love stories about parallel universes. I enjoyed his almost as much as "The Midnight Library". Once again, TJR proves she can write literally anything.

Another page turner from TJR with the alternating chapters for each scenario! However, I cannot rate this book much higher than I did because the ending fell short for me, as heartwarming as it was, because I was left feeling a tad incomplete/unfinished. Although, I‘ll say the book did have me pondering how much truly is up to fate and how our choices effect our future endeavors. So it was extremely provoking in that sense which I enjoyed!

A very unique way of writing a book to be sure, only other book I can compare it to is The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, but I love love love that some of the storylines match up for an assumed HEA.

Emma will have 2 different love experiences in two different multiuniverse, she will live in accordance with her fate and choice. Some persons will be a “constant” in each multiuniverse . At the end end of the audiobook, author explained the concept of multiuniverse which she believes exist & why she doesn‘t believe in soulmate but in choices. As she said to her husband: my heart breaks for every single version of me that didn‘t end up with you”⬇️

Hannah, a girl in her late 20s, is completely clueless about what to do with her life. She's just moved back to her home town after a failed relationship in New York. She's about to rekindle an old flame, when she finds herself at a crossroads, and the two possible decisions would result in very different paths for her. The book explores both paths in alternating chapters. ⬇️

eeclayton While the premise was intriguing, the execution left me disappointed. All in all, it was an OK book and it held my attention, but I feel it could have been so much more.

Can the choice between whether to stay out or go home change the course of your life? For Hannah it does, as shown in alternating chapters of this book. Is life about chance or fate? I was a little skeptical about whether or not this premise would try my patience but I thought it was well done and I couldn‘t wait to see where each version of Hannah‘s life journey would lead. #authoramonth

Another very enjoyable book written by Taylor Jenkins Reid #AuthorAMonth, although I don‘t think it was as enjoyable as the others I have read by her. A young woman moves back to LA where we see a split and follow her dual timelines following a key decision she made. Could she find a true love in both? Would it be the same person if she did? Should she marry her teenage sweetheart?

Having read all of TJR‘s most recent novels, I searched her back list for something new to me for #authoramonth2023. This premise sounded interesting, if a little “light” for my tastes. I didn‘t identify with the main character at all and generally don‘t enjoy romance, but I did appreciate the clever way TJR interwove two alternate realities. So, not a high pick, but also not a complete waste of time!

#AAM This was a sweet romance about fate, destiny and all the what if‘s - told in alternating chapters we glimpse the two paths that 29 year old Hannah Martin will journey, living out the consequences of her actions in parallel universes. And though her paths diverge maybe she gets exactly what was meant to be all along.

This was a “sliding doors” type of dual story that splits when Hannah has just moved back to LA and decides to stay at a bar and hang out with her ex or not. The way it all splits and comes together is very interesting.

When I picked this up, I was expecting something like Evelyn Hugo or Daisy Jones or Malibu Rising. It was not like any of those. It has a singularly different style and tone. That said, it was a fun read, and I recommend it to fans of TJR.

What an interesting book! We follow one woman as she lives her life making big decisions. We follow 2 paths based on those decisions. Which path is better? How different is her life with these decisions? I enjoyed this book and when I thought one path was better something happened to change my mind.

I started reading “Maybe In Another Life” by Taylor Jenkins Reid. So far it‘s not quite what I was hoping for. The romance between the protagonist & her love interest seems juvenile for characters who are supposed to be nearing their 30s. It lacks an emotional complexity that I was expecting. The dialogue seems more fitting for teens, however there was a surprise in the beginning that I did not see coming, so there‘s that! 📚 #maybeinanotherlife

Allthebookclubs It‘s similar to the movie -Sliding Doors, one of my faves. 2y
Allthebookclubs I love the characters and all of their quirks, the bold statements, their bravery in the face of hard decisions, and the unwavering support they offer. 2y
Allthebookclubs This is a story about best friends, Hannah and Gabby. Yes, it‘s also about Hannah‘s life and how it turns out in two possible realms BUT it‘s truly about friendship and how sometimes we find true love in our best friend. 2y

Book 78

I listened to Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I wasn't a fan of her interview-style books, but this was very engaging. Hannah moves back to LA and has dinner with friends. At the end of the night, she has to choose between going home with her best friend or her ex-boyfriend. The book proceeds with alternating chapters of two storylines, following the effects of each path. It was an enjoyable listen. 4 🌟s

7️⃣ I loved Daisy Jones and Evelyn Hugo, both by TJR, so far this one doesn‘t feel as dramatic as Evelyn Hugo but I do care about the main character and I am interested to see how things turn out. Once again, can‘t put it down, which seems to be a theme with TJR‘s books #taylorjenkinsreid #maybeinanotherlife #kindleread

Sliding Door plot where the story jumps between alternate timelines based on Hannah‘s decision on whether to go home with an ex one night or not. If the multiverse exists, how different are your lives? Are some things constant in each?
Didn‘t love this one as much as the last 2 books of hers that I‘ve read, just wasn‘t as invested in the characters, but still a good read.

Really interesting premise to this story. A look at how the results of a simple everyday decision can send your life down a different path. The story alternates between two possible parallel lives that unfold based on a decision that the main character makes about whether or not to go home with an old boyfriend she meets in a bar. This is lighter reading that deals with a contemplative topic. Good summer reading!🐚

I have enjoyed all of Reid‘s books that I have read so far, but this one was just meh. It is a take on Sliding Doors (when a characters life splits into concurrent storylines detailing two possible life paths). The payoff at the conclusion was a boost, but much of the story felt surface-y to me. I couldn‘t become invested in the characters. There wasn‘t enough depth.
