I really loved this one! I thought the writing was great and though there was a sad underlying plot there was really great depiction and development of relationships.
I really loved this one! I thought the writing was great and though there was a sad underlying plot there was really great depiction and development of relationships.
I enjoyed this one and had a really easy time picturing the characters how I wanted to. I always appreciate 90s nostalgia so this was a win for me.
I enjoyed this one, though I was personally unsatisfied with the ending.
I appreciated the character development of the protagonist and enjoyed the mystery aspect of the plot.
I wanted to get ahead of this one before the show version came out.
I‘ve had this on my bookshelf for years and finally decided to read it before watching the TV show.
This relationship is as toxic as promised. Do you ever find yourself so angry with characters that you literally scoff and say how you‘re feeling out loud? That was me often throughout this book.
I always find it to be a great talent to write unlikable characters so effectively.
Just finished my BOTM, in essentially one sitting. It was fairly predictable but redeemable because of the main characters chemistry.
If you‘ve read The Love Hypothesis, you largely know what to expect with this one.
This was riveting! She came around after I‘d aged out of Nickelodeon so I wasn‘t super familiar, but I‘d heard such great things and decided to check this out.
The audio book, read by Jennette, was super vulnerable and emotional. Her strength and wisdom is impressive after all she‘s been through.
This was an easy read. A bit simplistic but touching on relatable topics for me - a love of true crime and an aversion to vulnerability 😬. Overall an okay read.
I finally got this one off the TBR list. The whole time I was thinking, “this is very predictable but still good” and I got so caught up in that assumption that the ending really surprised me 😂
This one was pretty dark. I expected it to elicit some not great feelings because of the prevailing plot but it still surprised me. Some complex characters rounded out the story in unsettling ways.
Hey strangers! Long time no review 😬
Sorry for going MIA and thank you so much to everyone who checked in. I have no good reason for logging off for so long but hope to catch up on all my missed reviews.
My mom has gotten some good results from her scans and *fingers crossed* we‘re out of the woods.
…but I really enjoyed this one and flew through it on my trip to the beach yesterday (pre-sunburn). It wasn‘t nearly as cheesy as I expected.
After being so moved by the brilliant book Columbine by Dave Cullen I was really interested in reading this perspective.
This quote early on really hit me. Such a perfect way to capture the feeling of grief, shame and confusion.
~Quick Friday audiobook~
Attempting to watch Lord of the Rings for the first time this weekend. I know I‘m probably the last person alive who hasn‘t seen or read them.
Are the books or movies better?
This was a quick easy read and so cute! Really liked the characters and their chemistry.
I loved this! I devoured this one long sitting.
This is the perfect non-fiction read for true crime fans. A detailed account of working a case from the inside.
any recommendations for a newish romance audiobook? I need something that will either make me swoon or cry. That‘s where my brain is at these days 😬
A peek at how unpacking has been going. Excited to have space to grow the collection 📚
I‘m planning to add a gallery wall to fill in the negative space, so I‘ll share when everything is done
I think I‘m gonna start the tagged book tomorrow
So I‘ve been totally MIA for several weeks.
I moved in January and had so much going on between that and work. Then we got the unfavorable news that my moms cancer came back.
We are hopeful her treatment will do what we need it to but I haven‘t been able to fit much more in my life.
I‘ll slowly work my way back on here but I‘m the meantime I will need to pause #thatsclassic
Sorry for not giving more of a heads up on this for anyone waiting
Came across this while seeking more Sara Ney. This turned out to be just what I needed. Love an awkward pair ❤️
This and my next review are two random books I found on audiobook to accompany me while I packed this week. Turns out I‘m a big fan of Sara Ney. This just happened to be my Bookspin book
This was a like, not a love for me. I think I just came in with super high expectations based on other reviews.
Good to start checking books off my #bookspinbingo list!
#thatsclassic update!
Taylor Jenkins Reid has become another author I must read. So far zero disappointments from her.
I‘ve heard for so long how good this book is and it lives up to the hype and wasn‘t what I expected.
Checking off my #bookspinbingo list
Riley Sager can do no wrong!
Loved this one. If you were a fan of The Haunting of Hill House you need to read this.
Kept me hooked until the very end.

Checking this off my #bookspinbingo list
Liked this one - an enjoyable way to dive back in to my reading flow
Looks like I have a bevy of #litsylove notes to open! Feeling the love, thanks everyone!
I‘m decades behind on my #litsylove letters but I‘ll update everyone here and say I found a great new apartment closer to my friends and family and can‘t wait to move in the new year 😁
…now to find a bookshelf that can actually hold all my books
Finally finished my #lmpbc book! It will on its way to you shortly @BeckyWithTheGoodBooks
Fascinating and truly bonkers story. It felt a bit slow at times and I wonder if it was just because it was so science based and technical. Still really interesting!
Happy December #thatsclassic readers!
We are kicking off Middlemarch, who is reading along this month?
It was easy to make my December Bookspin list since I didn‘t cross much off in November 😅
I‘ve got a busy month ahead of me so hopefully I can get back on track
I was feeling down on myself for doing basically NO reading this month and then realized I still have hit my goal of reading 150 books this year…last month!
So even if I was behind in November, I‘m still ahead of my year long goal!
A reminder to my #thatsclassic friends:
In December we will be reading Middlemarch
I will email soon to get the poll going for January, February and March.
In the meantime send me any other book recommendations you would like added to the list! As we get through more month over month we will need to replenish the list!
We are getting ready to say farewell to November‘s pick. #thatsclassic
I felt the tone and style was very similar to Orwell‘s other work I‘ve read. Of course you except an author will often use the same voice from work to work.
Can you think of another author who has a distinctive writing style? My thought would be Sally Rooney has a distinctive way of writing characters.
Sorry I‘ve been so MIA #thatsclassic friends
I‘ve been working on a few huge work projects and have been traveling a lot.
I‘m planning to move in January so I‘ve been spending a lot of my free time looking for a good apartment. Wish me luck!
I feel like this book being so brief and simple is such a perfect metaphor for the predictable nature of power dynamics.
Can you think of any other books that pack a strong punch in a short page count?
I had to fly for work this week (the first time in 2 years 😬) and started on my #lmpbc read. It‘s gonna be a wild one!
I love when my #thatsclassic book is also my #bookspin book! Woo hoo!
This was another really quick read. Orwell is brief and simple but really effective. It‘s alarming how relevant this all is.
Has anyone else gotten started yet?
Happy November #thatsclassic readers! It‘s time to kick off our next read.
This is our second Orwell book but my first read through of this one. Are you reading along this month?
Happy Halloween!
So excited for my #bws package- I‘ve received yet another incredible and generous package!
Thank you so much @BookBosomed1 for doing such a great job with this swap. I‘m a little under the weather so I‘m gonna jump in to this tea ASAP!
P.s. how cute is this notebook?!
Blown away by my #hhs swap! Thank you SO much @monalyisha for this thoughtful and generous gift. I‘m already in these amazing slippers 🥰 and LOVE the thought behind the mug!
How lucky am I?!
Happy Halloween!!! 🎃👻
Just a reminder for #thatsclassic readers.
In November we will be reading Animal Farm.
Who will be reading along?
We are coming to the end of October (already?!) and the end of this awesome book.
The way Perry is written, there are time I found my self feeling bad for him despite the horrors of his character.
Can you think of a time you‘ve had conflicting feelings, intended in the writing or not, for a character that is, or implied to be, evil or the villain?
#thatsclassic
A new addition to the #pemberlittens family 👀
This one has been in the works for a while and I had to share. It‘s right next to my JD Salinger tattoo. Accidentally racking up a literary leg!
It‘s here! @BookBosomed1
Can‘t wait for opening day! #bws
I finally got around to this BOTM pick and really liked it. I loved how this family was written.
I wish we would have gotten a bit more of Sunday and Kale‘s relationship but truly the way this was written was great even without that.
Definitely a fan!
#bookspinbingo
This covers the story of a family where 6 of the 12 kids are schizophrenic. Honestly, this one kind of wrecked me. I knew this dealt heavily in mental illness but I don‘t know how ready I was for it.
It started off pretty slow but toward then you got a picture of how much the youngest sister really interacted with her siblings and it is so so sad.
Definitely needing a break from heavy subject matter after this one.
This was my #doublespin book
Breaking out the spiced apple cider tea I got from @Kdgordon88 to get me through my work day while I listen to my #doublespin book
I just want to live in spooky season forever with all the fall flavors.
I really enjoyed this one! It was one of those mysteries where you are going back and forth the whole time thinking you know what happened.
This finally gets me to a bingo on #bookspinbingo
