This was an enjoyable collection of science fiction short stories. There are a lot of classic tropes, computers becoming sentient, time travel, alien invaders, BUT written by an aboriginal man from Canada these tropes take on a new twist.
Entertaining and educational, quotable and memorable, short and sweet!

Used for my #WIAN2024 challenge: book with an NFL team in the title

Charles Hatfield traveled the country in the early 1900s promising to make it rain, taking $1000s from farmers & others. When he promised San Diego to fill their reservoirs for $10k, a burst dam nearly destroyed the entire city. The city then balked at paying the sum, suggesting god did it.
🌦️ Pseudo science, scam, or “the butterfly effect” - in any case an entertaining novelistic piece of history!

Cress was a great continuation of the Lunar Chronicles series! This Rapunzel is locked in a satellite. I loved the nonstop action moving from chapter to chapter. I was so tickled to learn in the author interview at the end that she‘s a Firefly fan and got some inspiration for this series from there.

If you‘re used to Marian‘s fiction stories you won‘t be disappointed by her essays. She uses the same writing style and depth mixed with humor when discussing her own life. She somehow forgot one key thing in the giant subtitle: Booze.
🍀🍀🍀🍀

I read this for the #WhatsInANameChallenge - I needed “footwear” and “Shoes “ is in the subtitle.

Also read this for #bookspinbingo last month but am late posting my reviews!

An enjoyable mystery with likable cast of characters, especially our favorite homicide detective CHIEF Inspector Gamache. However, I went too long between this and the prior book. I don‘t recall enough of what happened. Not quite a standalone book. But… PIE! Great scene with lemon meringue pie 😋

Suzze I try to make a couple of notes about each book that helps me remember the previous one. I‘m caught up now. 9mo
BkClubCare @Suzze - I do not like the unfinished Agent Nichol story line 😑 (and a few other quibbles,,, but I don‘t like series books.) 9mo
Larkken Nicol returns?! I've only read bk 1 and she was not a fav lol 9mo

Starting this as my expendable travel read - I intend on leaving it on the plane or in the hotel. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Found on my shelves, unknown when originally acquired, it fits a reading challenge I do every year: #WiaN #WhatsinaName #WiaN2024 category NFL Team (the subtitle features CHIEF Inspector Gamache! 🏈

bthegood I just finished this and loved it (2nd in a series) - hope you enjoy it too. 🙂 9mo

The Essex Serpent | Sarah Perry

I was initially drawn to this book because of the beautiful cover but luckily it‘s also fantastic historical fiction.
Taking place in the late 1890s, we meet newly widowed, Cora, who is ready to embrace her new freedom and, inspired by Mary Anning, explore the world around her. Tales of a killer sea serpent are at the center of the story. There were so many characters I grew to love.
Read if you like strong female mc bucking the norm.
