#OutWithTheOldInWithTheNew #YearEnd #20in4
Well I accidentally deleted my lap counter but I had just glanced at it before.😄 I basically got about 10 hours in over this #Readathon . Finished a book before years end , made progress on others , so it‘s all good 👍 thanks for hosting @Andrew65

Saga Volume 11 | Brian K. Vaughan

01/100 Its a definite sign of a great writer, who can quickly draw you back into the story, even if it's been months since you read the last volume. There's too much going on here to explain to those not reading the series, but Saga is probably one of the best comics I've ever read, and I highly recommend it to everyone. 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫

KathyWheeler I haven‘t been able to read it since the awful thing happened and Vaughn went on hiatus with it for a bit. I want to though. 3w

A cute YA holiday story! Shy, rule-following Tess makes a bucket list to help get her out of her comfort zone. She meets Christopher, who is happy to help her accomplish her list by NYE, but he‘s hiding something that could impact Tess‘ family.

The Resurrectionist | A. Rae Dunlap
post image
Mehso-so

YA Coming of Age/Dark Academia Historical Fiction set in mid-19th century Edinburgh with a M/M romance sideplot

James Willoughby has recently decided to become a surgeon and to study at the University of Edinburgh. An excellent decision for the son of a noble family if it wasn't for the family lacking in funds. In order to afford his position in an anatomist's course, the resident resurrectionist Aneurin offers the naïve James a job... ⬇️

julesG ... as look-out. With his financial situation getting worse, James has to join the resurrectionists himself.

I liked this story better than Schwartz's Anatomy: A Love Story. For one, the main character's speech and behaviour fits the historical context - down to the point that he thinks his sister Edith is better off than him, because she doesn't need to find her place in society, she has the advantage of only having to marry well and ... ⬇️

julesG ... produce an heir and a few spares. Then there is the love-interest, Aneurin, street smart butcher's son who became a resurrectionist and anatomist's assistant, and took James's measure within seconds of meeting him.

Since the story is set at the time Burke and Hare were 'working' as resurrectionists, the addition of a mystery/true crime element to the plot didn't come as a surprise.

julesG The writing, like the pacing, is a bit hit and miss. There are paragraphs with period appropriate dialogue or apt descriptions, but also rather bland phrases that reminded me of fanfiction.

I liked the dark atmosphere and that the author kept the novel as historically and thematically accurate as possible. 3/5🌟

Leather and Lark | Brynne Weaver

On the first day of #JumpStart2025 & the last of #20in4 #readathon I managed a few chapters of Silkworm & a few hours of Leather & Lark while #audiojournaling all the challenges I‘m doing this year. Which I‘m overdoing. Again🤦🏻‍♀️. Managed a decent time for 20in4. Loving both books, really enjoying the sequel to Butcher & Blackbird, already have the 3rd preordered on Audible! How‘s your New Years Day? #OutWithTheOldInWithTheNew #YearEnd

Andrew65 A brilliant time, well done and thanks for Playing along. 🥳🥳🥳🙌🎯📚❤️ 3w

So, this was my first time reading this author, and to those of you who know, will all her books completely gut me and make me cry? I do own one more, and a heads up would be nice! 😭

I really did not see it coming!!!

I just hit my #20in4 #YearEnd by finishing up this on audio. If you know me, you are not surprised that I listened to this one, which I typically don't do with fiction (looking at you @britt_brooke 😉). This is long, but weaves together beautifully & tugs your heartstrings. No surprise that the best actor in the world has become a beautiful storyteller.

⭐⭐⭐⭐/⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

My last #serieslove2024 this Slaughter particularly filled with horrible people doing horrible things . But I liked it! Bad reading year for me, I usually read 90-100 books , I even missed my abbreviated Goodreads goal of 75 . 😞Still, Litsy & reading gives me joy, I‘ll be sticking with that in the new year, less focused on goals. #OutWithTheOldInWithTheNew #20in4

Last finished book for 2024, probably.

Non-fiction

Preston collected formerly published stories of his about mysteries and murders in this volume. Among them are the story of the Money Pit on Oak Island, or the strange murders of couples in Tuscany, and the titular Lost Tomb (KV5).

Interesting to read and, this is why it took me twice as long as usual to finish, it sent me down several Wikipedia/Google rabbit holes.

Andrew65 Excellent 👏👏👏 I love it when books do this to me. (edited) 3w
