This was a quick read, brutal at times, but it kept my attention. Now my hubby and I are going to watch it on Netflix.

The Revenant is about Huge Glass and how he gets mauled by a bear and his crew leave‘s him behind. The crew are fur trappers trying to survive in the harsh conditions of the 1850‘s. When they leave him for dead he miraculously live through all the pain and agony. I only made it to chapter 4 but the book was great and I really enjoyed it.

MissYaremcio This looks cool! I was just missing the theme and how it is established. 4/6 3y

The book is about a fur trapper in the year 1823 who was attacked by a bear and abandoned by his men. He didn‘t give up and crawled hundreds of miles to safety the book is also based on a true story. I liked the book a lot. The symbol of this book is never give up and keep going

MissYaremcio Thanks for the review Hunter! This sounds like an awesome book! I would have liked a description of the symbol but other than that, great review! 5/6 4y

The westward expansion, fur-trapper era is interesting and exciting enough, but that ending was definitely unsatisfying.

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I agree completely! The movie is much better in this case. 5y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My husband always says I never read anything he recommends. That‘s not *entirely* true, but anyway, this is for him. 😙 Fur trapper Hugh Glass is grotesquely mauled by a grizzly bear & left for dead by the men tasked with helping him. But - surprise! - he doesn‘t die. This novelization (w/ liberties) of actual events is about survival & revenge. The west was wild, y‘all. Punke‘s writing is rich & solid. I hate when my husband‘s right.

TK421 I need to finish this. 5y
britt_brooke @TK421 It starts kind of slow, but once Glass‘s “adventures” pick up, it‘s quite entertaining. 5y
alanacristin This was one of the most painful viewing experiences of my life 😭 i loathed this movie. I wonder if the book would go down better (They usually do, right?) now I'm curious to try it after reading your review! 😂 5y

Daisey I still haven‘t read this one, but it sounds like one I need to read. 5y
britt_brooke @alanacristin I haven‘t seen the film and I don‘t plan to. 🙈 The bear attack is graphic in the book, but I wasn‘t completely repulsed. 5y
alanacristin @britt_brooke that's encouraging! 😁 5y

🎬 I thought they did a good job with The Revenant. The movie was actually better than the book.
🎬I go out of my way to NOT but a movie tie-in cover.
🎬 I would love to see an adaptation of The Fifth Season. But I think it should be a TV show rather than a movie ( #HBO are you listening?!).
🎬 If you're reading this you're tagged.

What a busy weekend! #OhioanaBookFestival was awesome! It was great to meet up with some fellow Ohio littens. Thanks for the sweet hat @LeshaMac ! I picked up 3 books at the festival, and The Revenant at the Book Loft afterwords. The Bloody Black Flag is a murder mystery on a pirate ship! The one about the Black Hand is on how the nations organized crime has it's roots in Marion Ohio. The Kahiki Super Club was a legendary Columbus restaurant.

Mdargusch You found some great books! We bought the Kahiki book too. It was our favorite restaurant. 7y
CrowCAH Must check out The Bloody Black Flag, sounds right up my pirate alley! ☠️⚔️⚓️ 7y

TK421 @Mdargusch it closed right after I turned 21 and before I could get one of their awesome drinks!😭 7y
TK421 @CrowCAH it is pirate noir! The author was super nice. He loves mystery novels and pirates, and decided to combine his two favorite genres. 7y
CrowCAH @TK421 neat! I realized on GoodReads I entered this book‘s giveaway; did not win. So it‘s still on the TBR. 7y
emilyhaldi Omg I have the best memories of The Kahiki!! 🙌🏻 My husband is also obsessed so I bought him this book at Ohioana too 😄👍🏻 7y
ferskner @TK421 I feel terrible, but I'm so overwhelmed with moving/new job that I've read almost nothing this month, let alone any of your #freakyfriday books. So I'm going to devote May to them! I'll still have a few other book responsibilities for that month, but I'll still do better. I'm sorry for slacking off! 7y

This prompt made me think of "manly men" so I went with Hugh Glass.

Loosely based on a real person who survives a bear attack, only to be deserted, and continues to thrive solely on his thirst for revenge.

I will admit however, that this is one of the rare times where I think that the movie ? was superior to the book ?. Especially the ending, I found it so unsatisfying in the book.

Pee I wouldn‘t watch the movie. It was too blood thirsty for me🤢🤭 7y

Facing a long car ride in the near future. Thought this might be a good one to keep both me and hubby entertained. We saw the movie and I thought the cinematography was amazing, hope to be able to “see” the story unfold with this audio. Any other suggestions for audiobooks in the western or outdoors theme, that aren‘t real new......I use my e library 🤓 and don‘t have time for waiting lists!

I posted my review of The Revenant on my blog! I had mixed feelings about it... has anyone else read it? I hate to compare it so much to the movie, but I saw the movie before I knew it was a book and I think this is a case where the movie was better (even though the detail in the book was better).

www.rachelworksforbooks.com 🤓

callielafleur I read the book first and liked it better! Isn't it funny how that works? 7y
BookishMe I watched the movie first (& suitably astounded) and was told book differs a little. Then I read the book, grimacing at the details and enticed by the atmospheric prose. Because I did not link book and movie, I was immensely pleased with both. 7y
Lucas.Rencher @Rachel.Rencher great review! 📚🤓 7y

SaraBeagle I never saw the movie and did not like the book. I thought the author really didn‘t do the story justice- it felt so rushed an incomplete. 7y
Rachel.Rencher @SaraBeagle That's exactly how I felt! Like this guy battles his way through the tundra and Indians and then has the most anticlimactic ending ever 😕 7y
Carissa-Green-Reads I always read the book first. I made it through the book. I didn't make it through 10 minutes of the bloodbath, I mean film. 7y

This book, based on a true story, tells one of the most famous frontiersmen - Hugh Glass, who is bent on revenge after being left to die in the #cold. The crew filming the adaptation had to endure -25C temperature while travelling to remote places in Canada and Argentina to film! #tbr 🙄

MinDea @AmyG I agree. I left the theater at one point cause it was a little too brutal for me. @Cinfhen I wonder if the book is easier to read than it was to watch... 🤔 7y
AmyG @MinDea I would think the book has to be easier. Seeing it in your head is way different than actually seeing it. Especially so large in a theater. 7y

A good short read, this novel is inspired by true events that occurred back in America's early stages of exploration and claiming the west. The history is interesting as well as the main character's ability to survive despite all odds. (For revenge!) Warning: don't get attached to anyone.

Finally started this book! I still haven't seen the movie. I grew up w a rule that I wasn't allowed to see a movie until I read the book.
With such a loooong TBR list and the rate movies are being churned out by Hollywood that isn't always possible. So I pick and choose. Some I absolutely will NOT see until I read it. #books #movies

keithmalek That's a great rule! 8y

I must admit that this great book is helped by its gruff, American narrator. So with that in mind, if you were to ingest this any way first I would whole heartedly recommend the audiobook. I really ought read more like this, as I rarely read historical fiction, because it really has a cold and tough sense of place.
