I enjoyed the story a great deal, and found it refreshing that this story from the 1950's saw that both genders would be viewed as equal one day... though this seemed to be more of a concept that an actuality in this story.

A lot of the concepts were far fetched and scientifically impossible so far as current science would advise us...

I adored this story. It was sweet and heartwarming, but didn't lack for action and adventure either. Hearing/Watching as Daine grew up across the pages, growing into her magic and discovering her new family after all she had lost... 100% I am going to be reading the rest of these stories!

This story had me hooked from the first! The Athsheans were such a brilliantly conceived and wonderfully written people, and the Terrans the perfect example of humanities flaws.

What I especially liked was how much detail and consideration had gone into the world and culture of the Athsheans in such a short novel. The degree of world building was truly astounding.

I really enjoyed this story for its ability to write about incredibly complex scientific theories and possibilities in a way that could be understood easily.

The storyline itself was engaging and captivating, and with a little bit more character development it could easily have been a 5 star read for me.

An extremely interesting, but occasionally frustratingly written story. It was detailed and seemed almost to be talking about magical lands (especially considering the part about the unicorns...). It was hard at times to know how much of it was truth and how much was a beautiful fabrication.

Overall it spun a mesmerising image, but seemed to be trying to give the impression of being a spoken story.

Figured it was about time to work through my Penguin 'Little Black Classics', considering I've had them for years and barely read half of them 😬 (They've made even more of them since I bought these too)

That said, I liked this collection. It was surprisingly open minded in the title story, where lesbians were at once the villains and not. Where they were both reviled and embraced...

Ali Wong was at her brash, bawdy, and unapologetic finest in this book. I love her comedy and was excited to learn more about the woman off the stage - I was not disappointed! I loved the openness she offered about her experiences, the hilarity of her anecdotes and just the all around honesty.

I'm not big into memoirs and the like, but this one was excellent.

A simple but entertaining collection of short stories. I enjoyed this book; it was a quick read and a good palate cleanser before I move onto something new (and longer!).

I just... I didn't vibe with this book at all. I don't think the translation helped either, because it was all over the place with 60's slang and what I can only presume was an unsuccessful attempt at giving the characters accents.

It was not good, at all.

This was a brutally honest, feminist retelling of the Odyssey. It didn't hide from the darkness of the story, it called the bluffs of the hero worship and idolising of the main male characters and showed us a glimpse of what they got up to in the shadows. Excellently crafted and researched, I just wish there had been more of it.
