2nd book finished during August, as I try to finish a book each day during the month. This was a great bit of classic science fiction reading. Well worth a read if you enjoy classic science fiction and books about the future of Earth for better or worse!

Had to drive to the hospital to pick up my latest supply of medication so started a new audiobook, can‘t beat classic science fiction from the likes of Arthur C Clarke, like reliving my youth!

I enjoyed the story a great deal, and found it refreshing that this story from the 1950's saw that both genders would be viewed as equal one day... though this seemed to be more of a concept that an actuality in this story.

A lot of the concepts were far fetched and scientifically impossible so far as current science would advise us...

I'm a little over half way through this book now and it is utterly fascinating. The world that Clarke imagined is so utterly strange and inhuman and yet its characters are so very human on another level. I'm fascinated to see where it goes from here.

Safe from the Invaders, the City has more to offer than one could sample in a million lifetimes, so why would anybody want to leave? But suppose somebody did?

A great page-turning adventure exploring different paths humans could take from one of the mid-20th century masters.

This novel was full of big ideas but I thought it got bogged down under the weight of trying to pack too many mind-bending concepts in to one novel. It held my interest and challenged my mind but eventually just got too muddled for my tastes. The audiobook featured a full cast but suffered from stiff, unnatural dialogue, and the sound effects were irritating. It took a lot away from the novel in my opinion. Maybe I‘ll read a paper copy someday.

If this was published today, it would probably be a YA novel: unique protagonist changes dystopian world. Seemingly inevitably, I ended up liking his pet obsessed best friend better.

A lot of the elements of this book have been reproduced in other fiction (eg domed city) or in reality (uploading to and downloading stuff from the cloud) making the story less striking and surprising than it might have been originally.

Recommended to genre fans.

I‘m pretty sure this is my first Clarke book. I really enjoyed the way Clarke was able to convey the emotions of the characters. I could feel Alvin‘s isolation, his sadness, and his determination. I really enjoyed this one. I‘m definitely gonna look for more far future stories.

3) Winter. I‘d rather be cold than hot.
