Way back in high school, I did a report on an endangered species, and I chose the panda, my favorite animal besides dogs and cats. I provided entertainment for the class during my oral presentation because I mispronounced two places pandas are from: Peking (I pronounced it as PECK-ing), and Madrid (I pronounced it as MAD-rid). 🤣🤣🤣 #lessonlearned

TheBookgeekFrau The curse of being a reader 😂 At least you didn't have the misfortune of mispronouncing 'organism' while reading out loud from your 7th grade science textbook. Jeez, I couldn't have picked a worse year to do that if I tried 🫢🤣 2y

This didn‘t get going for me until the second half when Ng goes into greater detail about the dystopian world she‘s created, which ultimately made this #GoodNotGreat.

After a deep recession, the US government passes the PACT law, which makes dissent a crime punishable by losing one‘s children. (Scary!!) Growing up during this, Bird/Noah suspects this is why his mother left their family. When she sends a message, he runs away to find her. ⬇️

Megabooks Lucy Liu‘s narration was fine, but there are other narrators that might have done better. Emily Woo Zeller and Nancy Wu come to mind. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I‘m not a super fan of celebrity narrators doing fiction audiobooks. 2y

Cinfhen I wonder if audio would have helped or hindered my reading experience with this one. It didn‘t work for me in print, but who knows? I won‘t be preordering books by this author again #LessonLearned 2y

Megabooks @Reggie just two this month. Most of the books I read are audiobooks, and I usually only mention the narration if it is exceptionally good or bad. This Hendrix has exceptionally good narration, and I really enjoyed rereading it on audio. It, incidentally, is narrated by Emily Woo Zeller.

Official Guide to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History | Smithsonian Institution

After 4 hours in the African American museum, we walked to the NMNH to see the Sea Monsters exhibit and the rest of the Ocean Hall. I ❤️this museum, now have a new favorite dinosaur (mosasaur), which is technically a giant sea lizard, and learned my lesson about buying books in gift shops. LeahBergen I‘ve done the same! I bought a Folio Society PG Wodehouse boxed set and several other hardcovers once on holiday and had to stagger back to the hotel with them. 😆😆😆 Hey, they were such a good deal! 6y

My first finish for the #readathon! Granted I only had 15 minutes left on the audiobook, which amounted to a whole 5 pages 🤪. Another great addition to the In Death series. Someone copying an old terrorist group is targeting NYC‘s landmarks. It is up to Eve Dallas and her team to stop the attacks. It was so nice to spend some more time with Eve, Peabody and Roarke.

I‘m going to cry. I was 80% finished with this book, and it had to be returned to Libby. 15 WEEKS to borrow it again. 😭😭😭 This whole adulting thing is really cutting into my reading time. 😑 #lessonlearned

laurieluna 😱 that's a long time surely if you're more than 50% through they should give you the chance to renew for one week. That would make sense. 7y

PenguinInFlight @miralunasbooknook I wish they would. I understand it would make wait times longer, but I think a one week renewal is fair if you‘re actively reading it. I can‘t sleep, so I went to read, and it was no longer available on my Kindle. I‘ll probably start from the beginning when I get it again. Normally I would buy it, but I was on medical leave for 7 weeks and my book funds are depleted, LOL. I‘m back to work now. I may buy it in a couple weeks. 7y

PenguinInFlight @Andrew65 ugh. It‘s the worst. I‘d be less disappointed if it was a “meh” book, but it is SO good, and everything was just tying together. I‘m so mad at myself for not realizing how little time I had left...not that working 50 hours a week leaves a ton of reading time, but I could have powered through it the last couple days. Ashley_Nicoletto Do you ever turn your airplane mode on? I do this to finish library books ALL the time. They can't be removed from your kindle until you reconnect to wireless. This is the actual worst. I had the same thing happen with sleeping beauties the day after Christmas I just got in back the first week of July. 😩 7y

You guys, this scene in the book is brutal. Worse than the movie - way worse...but gotta say the descriptive writing is phenomenal.
