After 4 hours in the African American museum, we walked to the NMNH to see the Sea Monsters exhibit and the rest of the Ocean Hall. I ❤️this museum, now have a new favorite dinosaur (mosasaur), which is technically a giant sea lizard, and learned my lesson about buying books in gift shops. I nearly died walking back to the hotel. #vacationshopping #bookhaul #dayfive #shoptwo #shouldhaveshippedthebookshome #heavy #lessonlearned

tournevis Ben Clanton FTW! 6y
DGRachel @tournevis I loved this one so much I‘m going to have to buy the rest of the series, and I don‘t even have kids. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣🤣 6y
wanderinglynn The Natural History Museum is one of my faves too. I love the Smithsonian museums and that‘s what I miss most about no longer living in DC. 6y
LeahBergen I‘ve done the same! I bought a Folio Society PG Wodehouse boxed set and several other hardcovers once on holiday and had to stagger back to the hotel with them. 😆😆😆 Hey, they were such a good deal! 6y
DGRachel @LeahBergen I‘m really wishing we‘d grabbed the taxi that was right outside the museum. That Ocean book weighs a ton by itself! 6y

Wednesday was our first full day in D.C. and we started with a walk from the Hay Adams Hotel, past the White House, to the National Museum of African American History and Culture. It is an amazing museum - 7 floors of very moving exhibits. These are the books we got in the gift shop. #vacationshopping #bookhaul #dayfive #shopone I wanted a book on Emmitt Till, but neither of the two in the shop appealed to me, so I will have to go hunting locally.

Jee_HookedOnBookz Love your picks! 6y
litenthusiast We are planning to go to the African American history museum in June. I'm glad you liked it, I'm really looking forward to seeing the exhibits. 6y
DGRachel @litenthusiast It was amazing. I cried at least three times while walking through the lower levels (slavery through civil rights movement). Most of my photos didn‘t turn out because of the dim lighting, but that‘s why I got the official guidebook. Just take tissues. 6y
DGRachel @litenthusiast One more thing! Even though the museum is free, they have timed tickets to keep it from getting too crowded, so be sure to decide in advance which day you want to go and go online to get tickets. @BarbaraBB I don‘t know if they‘ll still be doing ticketing in August, but just something to think of. This is the only Smithsonian museum that needs advanced tickets. 6y

There is only one genre I hate more than poetry and that is SciFi... No favorites here and HGTTG is the only SciFi book I have read and I won't be reading and others. Douglas Adams has said in many interviews that PG Wodehouse is his favorite author @ErinSueG @WhiskeyMistress

#crimesagainstcovers #photochallenge #dayfive. I don't own a physical copy but if I did I would of burnt it. This is going to divide the masses but I absolutely hated Anna's character. @ErinSueG

Erinsuereads That‘s hysterical! I didn‘t hate it but I don‘t k ow that I‘ll do a reread anytime soon. 6y

Day five - Book Series. I've been saving this series, but I feel like I might have to jump in soon. I've loved everything else I've read by this author, and I'm pretty sure this is her best work! #readingwomenmonth #readingwomenchallenge #dayfive

Weaponxgirl I'm waiting on my library to get the second in the series right now. So glad someone posted this! I loved the first one 7y

#augustofpages #booksandsport #dayfive I thoroughly searched my many, many books and found that not only do I not play sport, I apparently don't read about it either. So the only photo I could come up with, is about a made up sport. Does that count?? Quidditch is such an integral part of the Harry Potter world, it's a character all of its own. If I could play a sport, this would be the one I choose. I'd love to see an Aussie team in the World Cup!

TheLondonBookworm I have the same problem! I'd say quidditch definitely counts :) I was considering the Throne of Glass series- does assassination count as a sport? 8y
Laura317 Why stop at the World Cup? Quidditch could be an Olympic sport. I dare say more folks would watch if that was the case! 8y
TheSpinecrackersBookClub Hah! I absolutely LOVE this post and it definitely does count as a sport. 8y
Soubhiville I am also not a fan of any sportball games. Quidditch, however, I would definitely watch! 8y
Hooked_on_books Yup, totally counts. 8y
