I'm very behind on reviews but slowly catching up on #OokBOokClub reading @julesG
I liked this one better than Sourcery. Rincewind is still bumbling along but he at least had a good excuse for his cluelessness this time, with his not actually being a demon. I enjoyed the way Eric's wishes were interpreted and the depiction of the Trojan War
Soft pick
Since I just started reading Interesting Times, I guess I‘d better get around to reviewing Eric! I liked Rincewind better here than in Sourcery, but am still finding the Rincewind books underwhelming. This has humorous takes on Faust and Troy and Hell, but it all feels rather thin—more jokey “bits” than story or characterization. But it‘s fun and it‘s Pratchett, and I‘ll keep reading! #OokBookClub @julesG
This is a short book and a nice quick reminder that I still like this stuff. Part of the Rincewind series, the magician finds himself pre-pubescent Eric's conjured demon, doing Eric's wishes. The demons themselves are very upset about this, at least the head demon is. The Luggage isn't too happy either. Pratchett takes on Dante, Goethe, Aztecs, Homer, and the beginning and end of time, care of Rincewind and the Luggage. Fun stuff.
Terry Pratchett‘s Helen of Troy (well, Elenor of Tsort)…
My next book

Kind of slight as Discworld novels go, but certainly very funny. The ruler of Hell going all corporate is hilarious. “'This is really horrible,' said Eric, as they walked away. 'It gives evil a bad name.'“
#OokBookClub
#OokBOokClub book of the month, re-reading #Eric for the umpteenth time. 😁😁
#ShadowCat being a goofball
Eric summons a demon of unimaginable power to grant his 3 world changing wishes. He gets Rincewind.
I know the story of Faust, so I thought I knew where this was going. But then I remembered this was a Rincewind book & threw my predictions out the window. Which is also where this plot went. With Pratchett‘s signature humor, a smartass parrot, & trips to distant past & the depths of Hell, this is easily my favorite Rincewind book. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

A low pick for me. Rincewind isn't among my favourite #Discworld characters (though the Luggage is right up there among the best), but this was still a fun romp through time. I might have appreciated it more if I were familiar with Faust.

Be careful what you wish for:
You summon a great and powerful demon that obeys you and fulfills all your wishes.
Well, you got Rincewind instead.
At least he can run from things fast without looking back - that‘s a superpower as well, right? 🤣
Rincewind and the luggage are great characters. The sarcasm and general story lines are good. I should like these stories. I think why these are just meh for me is that it lacks the distinct place, like the Chalk or Ankh-Morpork to anchor the story, making it all feel unmoored.
The Witches series feels much the same to me, with the Tiffany Aching series making the correction to the amorphous settings
Not my favourite Discworld book but it definitely still had a ton of humour. It was just a little too choppy for me. Maybe if I had read Faust I would have appreciated this more?
1st book off the list for #roll100 @PuddleJumper 😁
A short fun tale in the Discworld. A spoof of Faust.
This adventure is quick and amusing, filled with references to history and literature that made me snicker. It was great to see Rincewind and Luggage back again. I liked that it was fast and brief, but at the same time, it didn't feel quite as full as the other adventures? Maybe I'm used to more? But I liked it just fine.
Another one finished! A very quick and pleasant read. It made for a nice change.
Figured it was time for a lighter read after the heavy subjects I‘ve been into recently, so I snagged a Discworld book out of the TBR crate. One of the few I‘ve never read! I‘m excited to dive back into the universe. Sorry, The Univers.
I‘m not entirely sure about this one... I like Pratchett voice, but it‘s a bit too much over the top for me, or maybe it‘s just too much...? It reeds like YA book, but at least half the jokes/innuendo would go past a YA reader... And for an adult, or at least this adult, it‘s a little as if the author couldn‘t choose who/what to make fun of, so he just made fun of everything he could think of???
I love Prachett‘s version of hell in this book “The damned must suffer repeated viewings of other people's holiday slides, elevator music, and the reading aloud of every clause of the 40,000 volumes of health and safety rules.”

Sorry @julesG ! #ookbookclub
Not my favourite Pratchett so far. Not sure if I needed to be more familiar with Faust, if I‘d have been better off with print (though the audio narrator did grow on me), or if I just needed to concentrate better, but I found the storyline jumpy & hard to follow.
Which doesn‘t change the fact it has a lot of very funny moments, and some fantastic characters. Especially Lavaeolus. I‘d read a whole book about him!
So I‘m at a small railway station, debating where on earth the egg whisk came from (amongst other things). Turned on Eric, for #OokBookClub, and within a few sentences he‘s explained everything! Matter has plans!
I need a cuppa!
My holds came in (all at once).
You have an extra book‘s-worth of space in your suitcase next week @julesG - Eric arrived early (but thank you!)
Still practicing travelling light, I‘m reading Milkman on my phone. Love the book (quite a surprise!) - her voice is just 👌. Not loving the phone-reading experience though 🥺
Pratchett delivers the best silly stories, all while picking at the sacred cows of classic literature, religion, and corporate infrastructure...and that‘s just in this installment. So read it for a pure fun romp or for the witty asides, either way a fun way to pass a few hours.

Imagine if this were a real novel and imagine if fucking Eric wasn't in it.
#OokBOokClub
This Death scene at the end of the universe is also nice! I am really torn on if this is a good book or not!
#OokBOokClub
The scenes between Rincewind and his probable ancestor Lavaeolus (I can't remember if it gets confirmed or not) got me Actually Emotional and I'm very glad Eric wasn't around to ruin the last one.
#OokBOokClub
I think this book is trying to recapture the dynamic from Color of Magic/Light Fantastic, but the thing about those is Twoflower is likable and Eric SUCKS
#OokBOokClub
If Terry ends his boy genius side character phase with a real snot that Rincewind is endlessly mean to, I'll be satisfied.
#OokBOokClub
I cannot say that I'm amped for this Eric reread, but I -can- say that this is a pretty bird and I quite like the solid teal background too.

Looking forward to something light. I always like a good story with the Luggage. #Ookbookclub #Discworld

Eric Thursley is an adolescent demonologist hoping to cut a deal with a demon in order to become king of all the nations of the Disc, meet the most beautiful woman in history, and live forever... except he accidentally summons Rincewind instead (who has been stuck in the Dungeon Dimensions for a few books now) and of course nothing goes according to plan.
Quick and goofy. Loved the time travel back to the Discworld equivalent of the Trojan War.
“Below, harshly lit in the arid vacuum of space, Great A‘Tuin the world turtle toiled under the weight of creation...
There might have been more efficient ways to build a world. You might start with a ball of molten iron and then coat it with successive layers of rock, like an old-fashioned gobstopper. And you‘d have a very efficient planet, but it wouldn‘t look so nice. Besides, things would drop off the bottom.”
