Watching Shop Around the Corner today and it takes place at Christmas! #wintergames2021 #mistletoemaniacs #holidaymovie @Clwojick
Great podcast listen this morning! This episode explores the inspiration for You‘ve Got Mail‘s plot - the conflict between Barnes & Noble and independent book stores in New York City‘s upper west side in the early 90s. Recommended for fans of Nora Ephron and bookstores!

Just watched one of my favorite classic movies which also happens to be a Christmas movie. The Shop Around The Corner stars Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan and is the predecessor of Sleepless In Seattle and You‘ve Got Mail. I‘d highly recommend it to everyone, especially those just dipping their toes into the world of classic movies.

Whenever I‘m near Columbia, I have to stop by Book Culture! Today I didn‘t walk away empty handed
😳😂
Haven‘t done one of these for a while! #friyayintro
1. You‘ve Got Mail
2. Hawaii with my family in 4th grade. Although I have so many good memories of trips with my family!
3. Memoir. Probably even more specifically, the ones that combine food and travel.
4. All the shades of blue!
5. Favorite musical soundtrack?
Congrats @vivastory on the considerable milestone! 😮
What a great idea for a giveaway post: The Strand is my favorite, but since I've posted about it a lot, here are four other favorites. The upper left is my 2nd favorite NYC store, Housing Works, and the following 3 I've visited once each on trips:
1. Northshire Bookstore, Saratoga Springs, NY
2. Oblong Books and Music, Rhinebeck, NY
3. Changing Hands, Phoenix, AZ

One of my favorite Christmas movies. ❤❤❤❤
The Shop Around the Corner
Today's bookstore trip: I collected a hefty stack of books (for $25), while my husband played the piano. 😊📚🎹 🎶
Now I'm winding up the day off with... well... what else? Some reading!
I am SO sad about this. I fell in love with this bookstore in college, and was so thankful it stuck around when I moved back into the area in 2010. My husband and I went here on our first date. We visited the day we got engaged. Up there is one of our engagement pictures, which they let us take in the bookstore. My husband plays the piano there several times a week. We live within walking distance... and now it'll be a 30-minute drive away. 😭
It's this kind of Friday night. Watching with my almost 12 yr old daughter. 😘☕️📚📚📚. This is how I am having a #partyofone tonight. Need to decompress.
p.s. The ice cube tray on the floor and bins next to it are for lego creations. I don't have ice on my floor
Watching You've Got Mail, which is one of my all time favorites. 💗📖📚
Watched this tonight! Not a book, but my favorite bookish-related movie (and one of my overall favorite movies)! Letterboxd says I hadn't watched this since November 2013, which is just crazy! Also, the book Kathleen is reading during the story time scene is Boy by Roald Dahl which I read for the first time earlier this month!
Saw this sign. While I enjoy their entrepreneurial attitude, I am concerned about their attention to detail (spelling). #litsyhumor
I watch this movie every year. Tonight was the first time I noticed the book conversation. Cute little banter between the main characters around the 45-50 minute mark. (Photo from Google)
Watching one of my favorite movies ?, "You've got mail". I adore Meg Ryan especially the scene when she talks about the shoe books!
When the plan was to read and eat until your mother-in-law revealed she's never seen "You've Got Mail". So now it's movie and sushi night.
Secondhand books with a difference!
This ramshackle shed is open 24/7 and is often completely unstaffed, so payment works on the honour system. You can also pay online if you forget cash.
I visited on a Sunday afternoon as the lone staff member was finishing up his shift. It was weird seeing him just walk out without closing up!

Just finished watching this delight for the millionth time. One of my top favorite movies ever and one I can quote ad nauseam. Originally a 1937 play called The Shop Around the Corner by Miklos Laszlo, it then became the Jimmy Stewart movie of the same name, then an adorable musical called She Loves Me, and then this gem entitled (as if you didn't know) You've Got Mail. I've seen three of its iterations and loved them all!
Do used book stores count for #getindie? Because I have a soft spot for this one: Half Off Books in Whittier, CA. They carry mostly used & some new, and they have creaky wood floors and a piano my husband loves to play. It's also walking distance from my home. My husband & I went there on our first date... and also visited the night he proposed. These are a couple of our engagement pics- the owners let us do an in-store photo shoot! 📚💜
Bell's Books in Palo Alto, CA is around the corner from where my daughter was taking Shakespeare class last year and it soon became my favorite hangout. They celebrated their 75th anniversary last year and they have all the books —new, used, vintage, and it's just a beautiful bookish place to wander through the stacks. Switching to Shakespeare in SF this year — hoping that location will also be bookstore adjacent! #getindie @Litsy #sfbayarea
