I don‘t think I‘ve read Heidi since I was a kid—I was amazed at how much I remembered! Idyllic days on the Alm with Peter & the goats, Heidi‘s bed in the hayloft, the way she hid away those soft rolls to take back to the grandmother, Klara‘s visit, Peter & the wheelchair—it all came back to me!! I didn‘t remember the strong (almost heavy-handed) Christian message, but even so, I loved seeing Heidi‘s growth & childlike faith. ⬇️

I haven't quite read Heidi before; I think we had an abridged picture version when I was younger but I wasn't moved to seek it out again. Reading it now, I think I know why—Heidi is so impossibly good, & the moral & religious message kind of overtly hammered home. It's a sweet story & I love the descriptions of nature but found it cloying, as well. Reading it in short installments on Serial Reader helped! #ChildrensClassicRead2024 @TheBookHippie

I found two more copies. The picture book my MIL got for my daughter from a trip to Switzerland. The small one I got at jumble sale in the 80‘s. This is the one I wanted to read as I remember reading it when I was 12 while listening to Bohemian Rhapsody, and now I can‘t separate Heidi and Queen. But it‘s falling apart, so I think I‘ll read my grandmother‘s hardback copy. All four books are different translations.

This is my copy of Heidi—it‘s my mother‘s childhood copy, published in 1945. She wrote her name and address on the front endpapers! Some of the illustrations are lovely, although I never picture Heidi with such short hair (even though this is the same copy I read as a child). #ChildrensClassicRead2024

#WinterReadathonDailyChallenge Day 3 - I‘m rereading Heidi by Johanna Spyri and Peter‘s Grandmother is blind. Also, Zoey and I made this beautiful Christmas tree yesterday! She did really well painting inside the painter‘s tape for a 2 1/2-year old. She loves stickers. She also put Star stickers on a plastic mason jar for a candle, but we didn‘t get a picture of that. Happy Saturday! Tonight is our light-up parade!! 🥰🎄🎅🏻📚

I rarely reread books, but since I couldn't tell you at all what happens or why I liked it as a kid, I decided to give it a go. As the story unfolded it began to feel familiar but new at the same time. It wasn't an overly compelling book, but it had a sweet friendship, a loving grandfather, and a positive & precocious Heidi at the center of it all.

I had a fantastic time buddy reading this with @ju.ca.no and both of us loved this book to bits. 🌲

Heidi, at an early age, loses both of her parents, and hence, comes to live with her grandfather up on the Alm (Swiss Alps). Her love & curiosity for nature & its wonders will make one want to step outside & admire one‘s surroundings. Heidi‘s time living amongst the lap of nature goes on, until one day she has to get away and live in the city. 👇🏽

Heidi is such a lovely and wholesome read too, this bubbly child really just brings joy and happiness ☺️

Starting the next #childrensclassic buddyread with @Tanisha_A with a trip down memory lane! I loved the show when I was really little (my parents still cannot hear the song as they has to hear it ALL the time apparently😂) I‘ve never read the book though and I‘m so in Love with the Cover ❤️

I completely loved this book. Never read it as a child. It is for sure going on my keep shelf. It is lovely, warm-hearted and a wonderful story that is very well written. LOVED. 5/5

Farm animals edition! 🐖 🐐 🐓

This is a retelling, and I‘m sure leaves out some things, but I feel like I got the message of the book. It‘s an oversized picture book, but with lots of text for a middle grade reader - complete with handy text boxes with additional information to help with comprehension. This #realclassic #middlegrade completes the #bbrc for me!! I‘ve absolutely loved this challenge- thanks to @LibrarianRyan for organizing it!

Finished this last night. I love the exuberantly reverent nature descriptions and how kind Heidi is always determined to be, and although the ending felt a little sudden, it was the kind of sudden that slows down on re-read. An emotional read in a good way, and one that reminds me to go outside, already.

I think I may have read an abridged version of this as a kid, since some bits were very familiar, and others, not so much...

I haven‘t been reading many novels lately, so last night I picked this one out of my ebook TBR list. Nearly halfway through already; I always seem to be faster with novels than with virtually anything else. 😊

What a difference a cover can make. On the left charming and inviting, on the right, anxiety inducing and slightly terrifying! ( those gnarly goat horns 😱) I bought the pretty edition to read to/with my daughter and she promptly lost it. Found the second one at a rummage sale for about 10 cents and magically the first one turned back up.

Heidi - one of the most famous stories set in the Swiss #mountains. I grew up not far from where the story takes place. But I had to become 30 years old to finally read the original story. The book was a gift from my mother who got it from her grandmother when she was a child ❤️📚

When Heidi was taken to Frankfurt to be a hired as a lady's companion to a wealthy girl named Clara, she later came under a lot of stress and was so homesick till she became ill. She was promptly sent home to the mountains to be reconciled with her grandfather.

This is a delightful story which I loved.

One of my favourite shows on Cartoon Network (90s) was Heidi. My mom bought this book soon after. One of my favourite children's read. Interestingly, I just googled to find out that the TV show was a Japanese anime series!

I've been building up a new bookcase in my basement for when my girls are older. I still need to dig through some boxes in my garage to find some of my old books, but I have been collecting books from various places to add. Then I decided to buy them each a "nicer" book every year for their birthday. Florence's birthday isn't until May but I just got her book and went ahead and added it. ???

My grandma won this copy of Heidi after making a poster that said, "Good books are good friends" in a 1938 contest. She gave me the book in 1994. It's one of my most loved treasures. #bookcharacterswithmyname #riotgrams

Primrose always remind me of our trip to Switzerland. Outside it was cold & snowy. But inside these cheerful blooms were on every table in every cafe.
