Life Debt: Aftermath (Star Wars) | Chuck Wendig
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER Set between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, the never-before-told story that began with Star Wars: Aftermath continues in this thrilling novel, the second book of Chuck Wendigs bestselling trilogy. It is a dark time for the Empire. . . . The Emperor is dead, and the remnants of his former Empire are in retreat. As the New Republic fights to restore a lasting peace to the galaxy, some dare to imagine new beginnings and new destinies. For Han Solo, that means settling his last outstanding debt, by helping Chewbacca liberate the Wookiees homeworld of Kashyyyk. Meanwhile, Norra Wexley and her band of Imperial hunters pursue Grand Admiral Rae Sloane and the Empires remaining leadership across the galaxy. Even as more and more officers are brought to justice, Sloane continues to elude the New Republic, and Norra fears Sloane may be searching for a means to save the crumbling Empire from oblivion. But the hunt for Sloane is cut short when Norra receives an urgent request from Princess Leia Organa. The attempt to liberate Kashyyyk has carried Han Solo, Chewbacca, and a band of smugglers into an ambushresulting in Chewies capture and Hans disappearance. Breaking away from their official mission and racing toward the Millennium Falcons last known location, Norra and her crew prepare for any challenge that stands between them and their missing comrades. But they cant anticipate the true depth of the danger that awaits themor the ruthlessness of the enemy drawing them into his crosshairs. Most people seem to enjoy this trilogy, while for me it's sadly only a So-So. I don't know why those books don't speak to me. They're ok to me, but that's all 🤷‍♀️

But Bones is awesome 😁

#StarWarsBuddyRead

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I love Bones! 4y
Jari-chan @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I do too! He's my favourite character in the trilogy. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Jari-chan I like him and I liked the Jas and Sinjir dynamic....and of course I ate up any part of Han and Leia. 4y
Jari-chan @Riveted_Reader_Melissa The Han and Leia line I enjoyed, too. It was interesting to hear about their relationship, Leias pregnancy and Hans fathering skills 😁 4y

I'm really enjoying this trilogy. In the first book we get a slice of Han and Chewy heading off to liberate Kashyyyk from the Empire and in this one we find Nora and her crew on their trail. #StarWarsBuddyRead 💛

Finally! a book worthy of finishing 😊

A few slow spots just like @RamsFan1963 said, but overall a good story. The only thing that pissed me off at the end was the sheer blindness of Norra and Temmin to the very thing they liberated the Wookies from.

Hopefully, a book that I don't DNF because I'm getting kind up fed up with that

RamsFan1963 I thought it was enjoyable, though it did drag in places. Nothing bad enough to cause a DNF I hope. 5y

Just finished Aftermath: Life Debt, and I absolutely loved it! With a perfect blend of new characters and returning favorites from the original SW trilogy, this book builds upon the wonderful foundation of Aftermath. The pacing of this story is phenomenal, but where I think Life Debt shines the most is the fact that every character—protagonist or antagonist—is interesting and even relatable. Wending is becoming one of my favorite SW writers!

Didn‘t suffer from Second Book Syndrome, thank goodness. There was action. There was change. Things actually happened, significant things. Still too many characters. Still too many improbable moments of salvation. Still worth reading.

#BookMail Pt2 This is the 2nd book in Chuck Wendigs Aftermath trilogy which has come highly recommended. After the New Republic‘s win over the Empire at The Battle Of Endor, the Broken Empire is gathering it‘s forces to strike back. When Han Solo & Chewbacca go missing after trying to liberate the Wookie home world, General Leia Organa sends Norra Wexley & her team to bring her husband home. #JulysHugeBookSplurge

Time to tackle my least favorite SW series thus far. Hopefully the audio will make it a bit easier to swallow than reading it does.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I listened to this one on audio too! 7y
GrilledCheeseSamurai I barely made it through the first one. That was enough for me. 😥 7y
claffy_reads I loved Mr. Bones. Here's the reason why I keep going through. 7y

InLibrisVeritas @Riveted_Reader_Melissa It's definitely better this way. I still don't like it, but Marc Thompson could read a phone book and make it interesting. 7y
InLibrisVeritas @GrilledCheeseSamurai I barely made too but it's Star Wars so I made myself finish. 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @InLibrisVeritas I agree, the first one was hard, I liked the second one a bit more when we got into Chewy and gang more. 7y
InLibrisVeritas @callielafleur I like him too, but because of the writing he feels more like a gimmick. He does make it interesting though 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa What has been your favorite of the spin-off reads. This trilogy I thought was ok, same with Heir to the Jedi, Thrawn and Catalyst were good, my favorite so far though was 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I should probably add here that I have a few still sitting on my shelf waiting to be read. 7y
InLibrisVeritas @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I think Thrawn and Lost Stars are probably my favorites, but A New Dawn and Lords of the Sith were pretty good. I still have quite a few to read as well including Bloodline. I'm hoping to catch up this year. 7y
GrilledCheeseSamurai I loved Lost Stars! Haven't read Bloodline yet but want to. Haven't read Thrawn yet either but I have it. I wanna get Phasma! 7y
InLibrisVeritas @GrilledCheeseSamurai I think Phasma is my next read. I was trying to do them in pub order but the Aftermath series destroyed that idea 😅 I want to get to Bloodline but I can't turn down a villain based book. 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @InLibrisVeritas @GrilledCheeseSamurai I have A Certain Point of View and Lost Stars waiting on my kindle, and I still have Rogue One and Ashoka on my shelf. 7y
GrilledCheeseSamurai @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @InLibrisVeritas I enjoyed Ashoka! It was quick easy and fun. Plus...well...its Ashoka! 🙌 7y
InLibrisVeritas @GrilledCheeseSamurai @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I'm a few chapters into Ashoka but just haven't finished it. I still have Catalyst, Twilight Company, Bloodline and the newest releases from the past two months still. I own most of them I just haven't made time. 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @InLibrisVeritas I know they are coming out pretty fast and furiously! That‘s why I was asking, I‘ve got to prioritize the best reads. 7y

Part 2 of Chuck Wendig's Aftermath trilogy is a big improvement over the 1st. This was a much quicker read, having no need to create the greater setting or introduce the characters. Not a chore to get through.

Pairing with a Bavarian Inn Dark Beer from Mountain Town Brewing (Mt Pleasant, Michigan) #BooksWithBeer

Cheers! 😊

Adam_Z On the quirky side, I never expected to find my 1st novel sighting of the pronouns “zhe” and “zher” to be in a Star Wars book. These PERMEATED a single otherwise irrelevant chapter inserted into the story 🤔 8y

Kids are in bed and reading night has commenced! Frances and I are enjoying some Hoppyum IPA from Foothills Brewing this evening as well. To those who read Aftermath and found it to be boring and poorly written, I suggest you give Wendig another chance with Life Debt. I'm not having to push myself to get through this one at all. We already know the characters, so the action starts right away. Pg 188, and this is much better. #BooksWithBeer

I had mixed feelings about the first book in the series, lots of new characters, with just frustrating little teases from the original cast and the larger world. This book made it all worthwhile as the new crew of characters collided with some old favorites for some pretty epic derring-do. The next book in this trilogy should be a great one, I can't wait to read it.

SaraFair Good to know, I didn't like the first Aftermath and thought the new cannon was a goner. 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @SaraFair I felt the same way. I wanted more of the main characters, and less brand new side stories from the first book. The crew from the first book continues on in this one, but they are recruited into some Han and Leia trouble before halfway. I personally really appreciated seeing more of Han and Leia in this books. 8y

Zero Jedis, just people in the Star Wars universe making things happen. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and it gave possible insights into the true identity of Supreme Leader Snoke, because let's be honest, that is the biggest question on every fan's mind. #starwars

Not exactly a page turner, but the Aftermath books are still the best to come out of the new canon so far (not counting the Marvel stuff). Some great new characters though, particularly Sinjir Rath Velus. Very interested to read about the Battle of Jakku in Book 3.

I started reading this series to see if it would be a good one for my 11 yr old and ended up really enjoying it. This one was very first trilogy, with mystery, betrayal, wookies, and perhaps some insight into who Snoke is in Force Awakens (but maybe not). 👍

Hey @Litsy what if there was an option - for those of us who are lazy and/or not arty photo experts - to auto-include book covers in our posts? I keep not posting bc no one cares about no image posts but I often don't have the book I want to talk about on my person.

(Also, LIFE DEBT was great and I'm still thinking about it.)

This far surpassed the first in the trilogy. While I must admit still having trouble separating some of the new characters, this nicely deepened fan knowledge of the galaxy between the original and sequel trilogies. When fed a steady diet of Han, Leia, and Wedge, the interlude chapters feel like sweet treats from around the Galaxy instead of scraps desperately consumed. Start with the first, but savor this one!

Um. I just finished a Star Wars story that included (a) a gender non-binary character, (b) a same-sex romance, and (c) almost all the major decision-makers as female characters. And even some of the droids were woman-identifying! You guys. I cannot even. My nerd heart grew ten sizes tonight. (Also, this is my third completed book for the #24in48, and I'm off to bed.)

The first book in this trilogy had trouble keeping my attention, but I could not race through this second installment fast enough. Wendig sows seed after seed of plot and you will be itching to discuss it after it's done.

SaraFair I couldn't get much out of the first one either. Too many storylines that didn't come together. I bailed because I have been spoiled by the good books in the old cannon. 8y
