This was an unusual pick for me but I ended up really enjoying it. I liked the interesting interpretations of magic, the mystery aspect, and it had just the right amount of horror (not much!).

This was excellent! Really enjoyed all the fascinating unique worlds Jemisin created. Lots of good ones in here that I will remember for a long time.

ErinSBecker I have this on digital hold from the library! Can't wait!! 5y

Finally finished this audiobook - seriously, who needs 100+ chapters?? A couple other minor annoyances, like a particular overused phrase, and a few really frustrating decisions (or lack of decisions...) on the part of the characters, but overall I really enjoyed it. An empowering twist on a classic fairy tale that was darkly funny.

LibrarianRyan I had to listen to the audio at 1.5x speed and it still felt never ending. Glad I listened instead of reading. 5y
SenatorMothma I listened at 1x speed for the majority and wished I had sped it up! Finally increased it to make it thru the last hour 😓 5y

Main reason I only go to the Alamo Drafthouse for movies!

Reading this book while taking the city bus for the first time. This city isn't known for its public transportation, but it wasn't bad! Maybe a bit longer of a commute than if I drove, but hey - I didn't have to drive, AND I got reading time in. Win win!
(No, I didn't leave my phone at home tho... maybe next time!)

k.reads Same! I‘m so spoiled now, I can‘t handle other theaters 😂 5y
Soubhiville Plus, they have real food, and are vegetarian friendly! Dinner and a movie at the same time? Yes please! 5y

A #wildbook for #30junebooks.
One I've started reading 2-3 times but haven't been able to stick with all the way through yet. Either I'm not getting the message or I'm just not ready for it yet 🤷‍♀️ gonna keep trying!

Finished today! Can't believe I've read 13 books from this series. They are just so reliably good (for the most part). This one has an interesting timeline structure and fun characters, and Mary is a bit more nuanced than usual. It picked up speed in the 2nd half, but felt like the author crammed in some of the best stuff in a rush (like, all the actual sleuthing!).

Scattered poetry
Inspiring my own haikus
An elegant touch

Found on a library used book sale cart, this was an entertaining albeit very bizarre read. I'm sure I missed a million Arthurian references in the midst of all the madness (demonic possessions, strange rituals, side snippets of another story, non-linear plot, competing narrators) but I still enjoyed it. It is *very* nsfw, which made me a bit nervous as I read it on an airplane!

I am maybe a little bit #obsessed with this series. I looove the audiobooks narrated by Nathaniel Parker and have listened to all 8 of them at least 3 times. Still working on acquiring all the paperbacks!

Have to catch up on #30junebooks as I was out of town for a bit! Here is a favorite #booksource - our beautiful Central Library (although my membership is currently expired 😅)

@howjessreads

BooknerdsLife Look gorgeous! ...You have expirations date for library membership?? 😱 6y
SenatorMothma @BooknerdsLife they renew each year! I'm not a city resident though, and pay for my membership. Waiting to see if I really need to renew it (I have 3 other library memberships!!) 5y

Not just an #oldfavorite but also my oldest favorite, and my annual Christmastime re-read. The embroidery cover edition is my latest acquisition, purchased at Orchard House when I went on the tour a few years back. The copy in front is the first one I received at the age of 10. So much 💖 for this book.

#30junebooks @howjessreads

Nute I love this post! So cool that you have held on to all your editions of Little Women including the first one that you received as a child.💕 6y
marleed Oh what a great collection. I read recently about someone who purchased the third HP book in every country with a foreign language they visit because it‘s their favorite book. Little Women would be fun for that! 6y
SenatorMothma @Nute thank you 😊 I couldn't let it go, even though it is falling apart! 6y
SenatorMothma @marleed that is an excellent idea and I might just have to start doing that! 6y

This short little #bookstack for #30junebooks is a stack of random, unsolicited book gifts from friends 😆 I tried to read Wizard's First Rule but just couldn't get in to it. Altered Carbon is definitely in the queue, and I'm not sure about All the Light we Cannot See... I've heard good things though!

@howjessreads

sudi I loved All The Light We Cannot See, it was one of my favorites last year. Hope you like it 💛 6y
Nute The writing in All The Light We Cannot See is some of the most beautiful writing that I have ever read. 6y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk Altered Carbon is absolutely fantastic if you‘re down with violent hard-boiled sci-fi! 6y
SenatorMothma @TobeyTheScavengerMonk yes it sounds up my alley for sure! @nute and @sudi thank you for the encouragement! 6y

Mehso-so

For a book with so many elements I love - pirates, witches, magic, the Fae - sadly it didn't completely live up to my expectations. The main character is disappointingly flat, and Bedford's writing style is missing something I can't exactly identify...
Overall I'm glad I read it but I wish I had liked it better!

Tagged book fits both the "book bought at airport" and "popular book I didn't enjoy" categories ?

#30junebooks Prompt: "J"

J is for Julie Morgenstern, who has been my #organization role model for more than half my life. Her systems are simple to implement, they make sense to me, and they WORK! I'm obsessed with #organizing and #decluttering books but I always come back to Julie.

The Anubis Gates | Tim Powers

For #30junebooks, my #underrated ones are anything by Tim Powers or James Blaylock. They have a similar style (and are friends IRL I think?), which some consider a precursor to the #steampunk genre as it exists now. Many of their older books are out of print, so I always check for copies when I'm shopping! Tagged book is in my top 5 faves of all time, I have given away at least 2 copies of it!

@howjessreads

Soubhiville I‘ve been meaning to find a copy of this based on your rec at my Xmas bookswap! 6y
SenatorMothma @Soubhiville the next copy I find will be yours - unless you find one first! 6y

llwheeler I've had the tagged book recommended to me a few times now... guess I should listen! Lol. Also I have the stone giant but haven't read it yet - is it a good one? 6y
SenatorMothma @llwheeler definitely do!!! I started The Stone Giant but got distracted by other reads with library due dates approaching... haven't returned to it yet! 6y
llwheeler @SenatorMothma Haha I know that feeling! 6y
CoffeeNBooks Welcome to Litsy! 📚 6y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk Not familiar with James Blaylock, but I love Tim Powers. The Anubis Gates is a favorite and Declare was just crazy. 6y
SenatorMothma @TobeyTheScavengerMonk I'd recommend starting with The Paper Grail for Blaylock. I think you'd like it! I haven't read Declare yet; after Anubis Gates I'd say Expiration Date is my next Powers fave. 6y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk I‘ve got Expiration Date unread on the shelf! I‘ll get to it sooner rather than later. 6y

This book made me want to cook, so I did!
I listened to the audiobook, read by the author. It was a nicely paced story featuring interesting characters handling real life problems. I really appreciated the realistic depiction of a wide range of relationship styles. Don't listen to it while hungry!

Eyelit I saw that at the library a while ago, and almost picked it up... but I was close to my account limit so I left it for later. It looks fun! I‘ll have to look for it again 😄 6y

1. Thin Mints. All of them.
2. The Fifth Element - it's wonderfully cheesy
3. I have no shame about listening to Artemis Fowl on audiobook for the 100th time.

5. Did #4 on Wednesday, with the addition of a mermaid bath bomb!
