There are confessions and passages in The Princess Diarist that you couldn‘t have waterboarded out of me if I were Fisher. The extracts from her diaries are C.R.I.N.G.E. I nearly died from secondhand embarrassment. There are love poems 19-year-old Fisher wrote about Harrison Ford, for crying out loud. Hats off to her! Just finished … such a disappointment 🙁

This book began because Carrie Fisher found her diaries from age 19, written as she filmed Return of the Jedi. She is an incandescently talented writer, witty and raw and poetic. She examines how Princess Leia began and reveals the bittersweet legacy of being forever entangled with her. She also (modestly) pulls back the curtain on her affair with Harrison Ford (who should've known better, but she gives him grace). 5/5

With being a Star Wars fans Carrie Fisher fan, I absolutely loved this. It was interesting to read what her experiences being Princess Laia were. Definitely recommend to Star Wars fans.

I enjoyed “The Princess Diarist“. It added insight to the filming of the first “Star Wars“ movie in 1976, as well as relationships between the actors and crew.

I'll say it now, I've never been a die-hard fan of Star Wars. In fact, to be honest I always preferred Star Trek or StarGate, & I've never been a big fan of Carrie Fisher as I'm a bit too young for her to have a been a part of my childhood. Reading this has sort of left me feeling rather disappointed in all concerned. 2⭐

My #doublespin for the month! I read and listened to the audio. I connected with many of Fishers feelings here and plus I like a few behind the scene Star Wars tales! Pick for me and I want to get her other books for sure! Some of her diary entries were heart breaking.

Everyone in my house is a Star Wars fan, which means I‘m sort of one. This book was ok, some parts were interesting but she talked incessantly about her affair with a co-star. I was kind of hoping she would talk more about what it was like to be in this movie that became so huge (she touched on a little). This book gives me a #bookspinbingo for the month.

Found this a couple months ago at a used bookstore. Hate the HUGE sticker but excited to read it. Featuring one of my few funkos.

I am a big Star Wars fan and Carrie Fisher too! This is nonfiction and she talks about how she got the part and her relationship with Harrison Ford. The actual diary entries are in the middle of the book and are about her feelings about the whole Harrison Ford situation. She talks also about her famous parents and is in general quite funny. #nonfiction

I haven‘t read much this year. My last post (six months ago🤦🏻‍♀️) was about starting my final year of my program...which thanks to COVID, that didn‘t happen. Which is a bummer...but also meant I wasn‘t traveling cross country during a pandemic. So, there‘s that. Excited to sit down and read this one, as Star Wars has served as a sort of comfort blanket for me for the last few months; the movies, the shows, The Child.

I decided to read anther non-fiction book this month. I love the orginial Star Wars films and of course, just had to get this when I saw it in the shop. It is so good so far! #currentlyreading

The book was not what I expected. I was prepared and excited to read her new old diary. Totally ready for them. But this short book ended up being roughly 60% on explaining more of her 3-month affair with Harrison Ford , the other on comic con lap dances. she wanted to get her story out so nobody else can twist it. She is head over heels for in, where he didn‘t care. I learned a lot, like how she regrets it. Funny. Not my type of read

So now it‘s time to read her memories of the first Star Wars movies she was a part of and how much of a big deal those movies were. I am intrigued to get an insight into her thought processes as she herself processed what was going on with her young body and mind during casting and acting

I loved Carrie Fisher, and it‘s a treat to listen to her read her own books. She was hilarious, and this book was a captivating look at the filming of Star Wars, her brief affair with Harrison Ford, and being Leia for the years and years after—her voices for some of the people she met at various ComicCons had me 🤣. The reading of her actual SW diaries by her daughter Billie Lourd were a fascinating and surprisingly deep interlude.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Not my favorite of the memoirs I‘ve been reading lately, but Carrie Fisher was so funny, and it was great to see her feelings.

Entertaining

Fisher's sass is in full effect as she describes her time auditioning for and filming the first Star Wars movie. From a brief affair with Harrison Ford to attending comic cons to make money later in life, she is sincere and sarcastic in equal measures. I enjoyed it, but it also felt forgettable.

“Harrison answered. “You think you‘re less than you are. You‘re a smart hick.” And then, “You have the eyes of a doe and the balls of a samurai.”

I started this #Audiobook today.

Already half way done and it‘s eye opening! Though, Carrie does seem like an unreliable narrator. But I did enjoy the story of how the “Leia buns” came to be!

The section on her affair with Harrison Ford got a little long but the rest was good. It was wonderful hearing her voice again and hearing about her experiences filming A New Hope and subsequent Star Wars fandom. Billie did a fantastic job reading Carrie‘s actual diary entries.

I just finished this memoir. It wasn‘t quite what I was hoping for. Instead of a peek into the set of filming the original Star Wars films, this is mostly Carrie‘s account of her affair with Harrison. I did enjoy Carrie‘s wit and sarcastic nature, which really came through in her reading.

Erm, I feel like this was rambly and its only point was to talk at great length about her affair with Harrison Ford. BUT, I do quite like her writing and I found the actual journal entries to be intelligent, profound, and sad.

This was a delightful read. Not fantastic, but fans of Carrie will probably enjoy it. I just wish it focused more on the making of Star Wars rather than the affair. Yet, it was classic Carrie Fisher and fun to read. 3.5 out of 5.

Getting started on some late night #audiobaking so I can have something for the cookie exchange at book club tomorrow. I may not have finished the book, but I refuse to show up without baked goods to compensate. 🤣

While I appreciate Carrie Fisher's voice and it was mildly entertaining just to listen to her sardonic wit, the scope of this memoir was more narrow than I had hoped for. I enjoyed hearing her voice and her experience, it just wasn't the content I was hoping for...so...this rating is more of a failure on my part to look into the contents of the memoir prior to reading than it is an issue with the writing.

First book finished for #24b4Monday. Probably not going to hit 24, but I‘m going to do as much as possible! It‘s a rainy & cool day here—perfect for reading.

And yes, I listened to the audiobook while following along in my hard copy. Because it‘s much more interesting to listen to Carrie Fisher reading it.

I love listening to Carrie Fisher‘s books via audio. This was definitely a bittersweet book as she made a lot of jokes about dying, and while I did enjoy the excerpts from her diaries back from filming the first Star Wars movie, I felt the last 1/3 or so of the book dragged a bit. Definitely worth a read or listen, though! 3.5/5 stars.

Started this on audiobook tonight and already halfway!

Carrie Fisher was a cool lady. I didn't really know anything about the behind the scenes of Star Wars, so that was interesting. Her diaries during that time were wistful and earnest, some of those poems pretty good. I just followed her dog, Gary, on Instagram. It's still being run by someone and dang is that doggo cute!
Also, audiobook read by her was really just great.

I miss Carrie Fisher. This was my first one of her books and I loved it. The affair didn‘t surprise me because it was talked about when the book was released.
She does get self deprecating at times but with her addictions and mental health issues it was no surprise that there would be times she would be like that.
I enjoyed this book. I will read more of her stuff and continue to miss her and her strength and sass mouth.

I didn‘t eat great this week but I didn‘t eat terribly, except Thursday I basically had junk food for dinner and way too much sugar. I need to get on those fresh fruits and veggies better.
Took a bit of a new route today by the river and got to see a doe and her fawns crossing by the time I got my camera open they were climbing out.

I‘ve been only a casual watcher of the Star Wars movies but saw so much love for this book that I decided to go for it when I saw the audio was available. Overall, I found Carrie Fisher delightful and I‘m happy she read the book herself. It‘s interesting to contrast her responses to her affair with Harrison Ford at the time and much later. So sad we‘ve lost this intelligent, funny woman.
