This one has been popular the last couple of years but I didn‘t enjoy it too much. It felt like word vomit a lot of the time. I liked the premise, the characters, and the ending. But the meat of the story was chaotic. Perhaps better editing was needed?

Addie LaRue lives in a world where she is forgotten the second she leaves a person's sight. After making a desperate pact 300 years ago to be allowed to live, Addie is cursed to wander the world invisible to everyone around her until one man remembers her. A beautifully crafted story that spans centuries whilst being rooted in the present, which sweeps you along. Truly loved this book and will be recommending it to people for a long time.

“What she needs are stories.
Stories are a way to preserve one's self. To be remembered. And to forget.
Stories come in so many forms: in charcoal, and in song, in paintings, poems, films. And books.
Books, she has found, are a way to live a thousand lives—or to find strength in a very long one.”

Finishing this one tonight and I‘m really going to miss Addie Larue 🥹💫

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V. E. Schwab

This is hands down one of the best books I have ever read. It's a bit different but oh so good. A magical experience for the mind. A love story for the soul. I don't say soul lightly either. I story of hope. A story of “Not forgetting.“ A story about a girl. Then a boy. And the deals they made.

France, 1714. When Adeline LaRue has to marry someone she doesn‘t want to, she begs for a life of freedom. Her wish comes true, but at a price. Addie will live forever, and is doomed to be forgotten by everyone she meets.
She travels across continents and through centuries and learns to live an invisible life. Until someone remembers her. That changes everything.

It‘s a sweet read. A bit too much so to my taste.

TieDyeDude I loved this story, but I've seen a lot of mixed reviews, and I understand how it wouldn't appeal to everyone. 6mo

I took a gamble when I picked up this audiobook on Libby. Having read the synopsis I felt inclined to give it a shot, but also had a moment 's hesitation because I wasn't certain it would really be for me. 17 hours 10 minutes and 50 seconds in listening time later I am happy to report this was a solid pick! Such an incredibly well written and entertaining story.

Shhh... Small secret, it even made me cry. LoL

1. Louise Erdrich, Barbara Kingsolver, Margaret Atwood, V.E. Schwab (among others)
2. One of my favorite fantasy books is The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab (tagged)
3. I could easily go with V.E. Schwab here, too, for the Shades of Magic series. But I think I'll say S.A. Chakraborty. The Daevabad Trilogy was just amazing.

A romantasy that didn't hook me fast enough to endure. I picked this up on recommendation by a friend and because the premise and writing was great. Unfortunately, I don't connect with YA books that center on romance. I need a compelling "bigger story" which this book promised but didn't deliver soon enough.

For those of you who are into romance-centered stories, you will probably like this one.

What a whirlwind of a book! Personally, I love historical romances so this is a book that piqued my interest. The way that it was written, the flashbacks, the descriptions is very rich and full to the brim. Oh how I loved it! It‘s 542 pages but you‘d be able to finish fast because of the story. I know that when it becomes a movie, it‘ll be fantastic!!!

LoverOfLearning I FINALLY got around to reading this book, and we discussed it in my book club. Wow! A slow, beautiful yet gut-wrenching burn of a story. Solid 4 stars. 9mo

I loved Henry and the story with him and Addie. I listened to the audio, and often lost interest when Luc would appear, so I likely missed much of that part of the story. Thinking back on the book as I write this, though, I debate about rating it ok rather than good. I suspect that rating will decrease with time and memory of the book (since it already has just a little)

I would never have read this if it hadn‘t been a book club pick. It was…interesting. And I did want to see how it ended but not really my thing. Should make for an interesting discussion on Saturday though.

I wasn't as enamored with this book as the rest of the world seemed to be, but I still enjoyed it! Addie's whole deal was just antithetical to how I see life, but I loved her zest for being alive and her relationship with Henry, and I desperately wanted to see how it all ended. If you've got more of a lust to get out of your daily life than I do, this is your story. #fantasy

I really enjoyed this. I found Addie to be an engaging character who was strong enough not to yield when things got tough but still capable of finding the joy and beauty in the world around her. I was able to guess some of the plot before it unfolded but still enjoyed the journey. The audio was done really well.

Ok it took a bit to stick with this because I‘ve seen minor variations on this idea so many times before. And frankly they‘re less sappy and less clunky. This is a love story with historical fiction trappings whose research feels elementary school at best. Where was the editor in all this? Read Life After Life, How to Stop Time or The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August and skip this.
