This was so beautifully written... I cried. A lost love story of Roya, a teenager living amid the political turmoil of
1953 Tehran, finds a neighborhood stationery shop where she meets Bahman and they fall in love. Life as we know has its twists and turns. I thoroughly enjoyed this quick read. I have the paper copy and the pages feel beautiful as well. Definitely recommend. Will be looking for other books written by Marjan Kamali. ❤️

I‘m struggling on how I feel about this book. I enjoyed the first bit, but then I felt it was a bit rushed or cliche (I.e., becoming besties with someone you‘ve met 13.5 seconds ago which happens to be the sibling of your new love). Nevertheless, the last chapters focused on a heavy topic & thought it was handled ok. I give her credit for sharing this story & I will read the follow up story. I just need less cliche in betweens.

Before writing this review, I read other reviews & it seems like there's 2 types of people... you either loved this story or didn't. The author writes well but I didn't find myself really engaged with the story. At some point there were various characters thrown out there, non too memorable except for Casey & the two love interests. I wouldn't recommend this one, but l'll give the author another try.

This was a quick read. Another psychological thriller. Enjoyed the writing. The story focuses on a con artist hired by a mysterious employer to infiltrate the life of a handsome businessman.

This is my first McBride book. Very well written. Touching and at times heartbreaking. Not a usual genre for me, but I am glad I chose it. It‘s a slow developing story but there‘s a pay off. It starts in 1972 but takes you back to the 1930‘s to a neighborhood, where African Americans and Jewish immigrants coexist, the story revolves around its residents. We should all strive to be more like Chona.

This is my 2nd book by Hannah. I thoroughly enjoy her writing, I find it vividly detailed. It allows me to really see what's written. In this book, she tells the story of Frances “Frankie" McGrath, a young nurse who served in the Army Nurse Corps during Vietnam. I enjoyed that she covered the harsh realities of war, how women were treated, but found it all very empowering & with an even greater appreciation for the women who served in Vietnam.

Mid-19th century Missouri, Jim is a slave. You‘ll recall some familiar characters: Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn. When Jim hears a rumour that he is to be sold, separated from his wife & daughter, he decides to flee. He encounters many terrible characters on his journey. You‘ll find yourself flipping pages just to find out how it ends.

Very well written. Some witty, some very harsh describing the realities of what has happened in our country.

This is a psychological thriller. This story delves into complex issues of secrets, guilt, and relationships. The plot will keep you turning pages to try to reveal the end. I enjoyed reading it and it finally pulled me out of reading dry spell.

I initially started this book a while back and then re-started it. I went through it rather quick, as a psychological thriller it does make you want to keep reading. However, I can‘t really pinpoint when, perhaps the last few chapters, but after finishing the book, I just felt indifferent. 😐

This was a very lovely written story of a library bringing two strangers together; a 16 year old boy and a 72 year old woman. Well-written and a heartwarming story.

Freida McFadden is the queen of plot twists. This is the second book in the series and I flew through it. When you think you know the twist that‘s coming… you‘re still surprised. Really enjoy her writing.

The story takes place in the 60‘s in Maine- where a Mi‘kmaq family arrived to pick blueberries for the summer and faced with tragedy. In parallel, we meet a young girl named Norma that grows up with an affluent but overprotective family.

Great writing in a debut novel although able to piece things together quickly so don‘t expect surprises; the ending was a bit rushed after chapters of longer development, but overall a good and fast read.

It‘s an entertaining read, but I‘m not sure if I was just in a different space while reading this one as I can‘t say it‘s my favorite book so far or highlight it as much as other reviewers. The story takes place in Eden, Kentucky. There‘s a bit of everything in the story from romance, mythical, tragedy. It takes a few chapters to reel you in, but I did enjoy the use of footnotes in the story. If you‘ve read it let me know your thoughts.

This was a quick read. My second Michaelides book; you either hate or love this author. Expect twists throughout. At first it was difficult to keep up with all the characters, I found myself easily distracted in some points. I enjoyed the author‘s previous work in Silent Patient, but I‘d still recommend reading this one.

Amazing writing. Without giving spoilers, the story focuses on two women in France during World War II and their struggle to survive during the German occupation of France. There were times I gasped, cried, was upset because even though this is a historical fiction, this story was inspired by reality.

Definitely recommend reading. I look forward to reading other books by Kristin Hannah.

We take life for granted. I myself tend to focus on issues instead of all the wonderful things we are blessed with on a daily basis. This was a wonderful book, well written, and I understand some can find certain parts repetitive, but that's the whole point in a time-loop novel. My only complaint is with the end, but I‘ll leave it there so there‘s no spoilers. Recommend reading & trying to self check to live in the moment.

What a great read. I‘ve been on Twitter for so many years, and the author perfectly describes the usual cancel culture, keyboard warriors of social media. Nevertheless, there‘s so much more to this book. Def recommend.

This book was less of a thriller than expected. Good writing, but it didn‘t have me anxiously try to finish the book. The story is more about being young, the friendships made, and how fast things can change in a matter of minutes.

It was a good read but wouldn‘t say a huge page turner. This is the author‘s first book. What made me keep reading was the cozy feeling getting to learn more about the family (3 women: grandmother, mother, and daughter). The grandmother, Lana, steals the show. They bond over solving a murder while dealing with health issues. It has some wit and a relatively fast read. Can‘t wait to see how this author grows.

I went through this book so fast. It kept me on a rollercoaster of suspense, it‘s definitely a psych thriller. There‘s plenty of twists and moments of just wow. Will definitely read Freida‘s other books.

I often read books while listening to them on Audible. Listening to it on Audible made it as if you‘re actually listening to a podcast. It was gripping and had you wanting to keep reading to learn more about these intriguing characters. I finished this book in days. Recommend it. 🙌🏽

My first Gladwell book. It was a great read, finished it rather quickly in comparison to my usual. Made me think about hurdles I've faced and providing a different view on my successes. Success has always been narrowed down to hard work and intelligence. But this book looks into how hard work & intelligence aren't the only things at play. There are multiple things at work simultaneously around a person that makes it to the top. Recommend!

This is my second Matt Haig book. I first was introduced to his writing with The Midnight Library, which is fantastic and highly recommend. I was excited about reading How to Stop Time and I loved it. The story is very thought provoking and that‘s what I enjoy most about the two Haig books I‘ve read so far. I genuinely start feeling more appreciative of the life I have and living day by day. Can‘t wait to start the next Matt Haig book.

Hello Beautiful tells the story of the Padavano sisters and William, who married into the family. The author took time developing the characters, there‘s an inspiration from “Little Women”. As the story develops, we learn of the struggles of being an athlete, the loss, and recovery, finding new purpose as well as changes families experience throughout life.
It‘s a well written book but I wouldn‘t say it‘s a book I‘d tell everyone is a must read.

This is my second book by this author. I enjoy her writing style. This one is written in an oral history format. “The author” is interviewing the members of the band. It‘s a quick read and now I‘ll get to watch the show based on the book. Rock-n-roll 🙌🏽

The premise: the husband goes missing leaving his wife, Hannah, alone with his 16 year old daughter to piece together what happened. At first, it pulls you in, going through pages trying to find out. As the story continues, it is almost as the author prolonged the story and some extending scenarios instead of just using Google. At the end of it, I just felt meh. I‘ll give the author another try.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It‘s my first time reading the author‘s work. Well written and as per the title it‘s the story of Evelyn Hugo, her life, struggles she went through and twists along the way. There are some powerful scenes that leave you feeling quite emotional but the writing feels so real, I had to look up the story. Recommend.

Unlike anything I‘ve ever read before. I truly enjoyed it. Very creative, well-written, and you‘ll expand your vocabulary.

The story is about friends growing up together and working together creating games and the struggles and fragility of life.

This is just a spectacular read. It‘s a debut novel about a scientist in the 1960s who is opinionated, witty, and intelligent. But as we know women had to face many hurdles in the 60‘s being boxed in as “just housewives”. Everyone should read this book but if you‘re a woman this book is a must; you‘ll feel empowered. We‘ve come a long way, but still more to go. It is well written, funny, and you‘ll have a hard time putting it down. My 2022 pick.

The Silent Patient is a great example of a psychological thriller. It starts with an immediate revelation. As read more it became more of a page turner. I wanted to know if they‘d finally reveal Alicia, the silent patient‘s, story. The exerpts of Alicia's diary read like a novel, complete with storylines, and dialog. No one writes in a journal like that. It takes away from the authenticity. Would still recommend, good read.

I‘ve read earlier novels written by Colleen Hoover and this one moves away from that. It‘s far darker, edgy, and as you read you start really thinking about how messed up someone can be. There is a lack of character development and more so lack of relationship development, but it does make you want to continue to read to find out what happens. I wasn‘t impressed with the end, it almost tried too hard for the twist. Still entertaining.

I enjoyed the quality of the writing, yet I found parts felt incomplete. There were characters presented that didn‘t add to the story. Told by Elizabeth, a high school teacher with a PhD, going through a financial crisis w her husband, 2 daughters, the relationship with Sasha who was a childhood friend takes so much of the story. Some great quotes; however, I expected some big revelation, but the ending was very bland.

Dominicana is a quick read told from the perspective of a 15 year old, Ana. The story is typical of a number of immigrant women. I don‘t dislike it, but I never felt suspense or anxious; it was somewhat predictable.

The story captures and details things well, it has it moments that are quite moving. Unfortunately, I feel it is not a book I will remember a few weeks from now.

I started reading this book after catching the first episode of the series on tv. I stopped watching it in order to read the book first.

It‘s a good story of family, and looking at the different situations we face. The reason I choose so-so was because nearing the end you expect this great reveal, etc and it ends pretty bland.

I have to admit I was surprised at the 4 & 4.5 out 5 stars for this book after I completed reading it. Gardner is a NY Times best seller, it‘s well written, great describing the characters, but as the story went on, it dragged & the ending was a bit predictable. It wasn‘t one of those reads where I don‘t want to put the book down, near the end I began to skip sentences just to finish the book. 3 out 5.

The chapters are more like short stories intertwining characters with the central figure being Olive Kitteridge. It‘s a good read, makes you think about life, getting older, and while I found it to be well written it‘s definitely not a happy go lucky read. You feel sort of sad at the end of it all.

Well written, fast read, those that enjoyed Gone Girl would like it.
