This is my third by Higashino. So far , so good 👏🏻❤️
This is my third by Higashino. So far , so good 👏🏻❤️
The book is also popular by the name "UNDER THE MIDNIGHT SUN".the reason I picked it up was cause.. Mystery,Thrill & New Culture through the popular Japanese author Keigo Higashino.
What I really loved was the in detail description of scenes and events the way the characters timeline is followed through.Even though it's a translation it's very true and beautiful to the core. Will definitely be reading more books by the same author.
Has anyone read this?! It‘s so good but so dark! You just have to talk about it with someone. I really enjoyed Higashino‘s later books starring Detective Galileo, but he really hones his craft in this earlier work.

Looking forward to this Japanese murder mystery on this weekend of social distancing.
The criminal is not difficult to guess but the story focuses on the ‘why‘ and ‘how‘. It follows 2 persons linked by an unsolved crime for over 20 yrs, other ruthless crimes that occur around them, and a detective who never gave up on the initial case. It boasts a wide cast of characters but things come together at the end. An intricate maze of a mystery with well done translation that delves deep into the human psyche make this a terrific read.
#currentread . I‘m liking the complexity of the story. Despite the wide cast of characters (story spans 20 yrs) and the length of the novel (539 pgs), it‘s holding my interest. I think I‘m liking it better than Devotion Of Suspect X.
Photo shows the sun this afternoon. We‘ve been plagued by unhealthy air for the past wk due to a long-standing cross-border haze issue with a neighbouring country. Haze is so bad, pic reminds me of the tagged book.
Look what the mailman brought me today *_* Very excited for this one! #readaroundtheworld #thriller #misterynovel
Living on this side of the world, there‘s plenty of sunshine and rain, and without doubt #icanseethesuninlatedecember but witnessing the sun at midnight during the summer in either the Arctic or Antarctic would be spectacular and an amazing experience!
I‘ve read and liked two Higashino books this year and I‘m planning to read more by him. Been wanting to read this.

Read for #JapaneseThriller #booked2018
I appreciate when challenges make me read out of my comfort zone. This is not a genre I pick up on my own too often but I got really sucked into this book. The writing/translation was good, though I did have a bit of trouble following the multiple characters/time jumps at first. Mostly, though, this book makes me sad. Esp once I realized the title's significance.
CW in spoiler tag comment.
My final #readathon time - with pic of Callie enjoying her new bed, since all my books were ebooks this time around.
Not a huge time, but 1 book finished and parts of 2 others read. Of course another library hold came in just as I finished the one book... #neverendingtbr #needanotherreadathon
Congrats to all the other readathoners!
4/5
Creepy, disturbing yet addicting. Definitely gave me some bad dreams, but couldn‘t put it down. It wasn‘t difficult to figure out who “done” it early on, but the book kept me engaged throughout. That ending tho...
#Booked2018
The core of the story is relationship between woman and man through 20 years, and interesting part is that we don‘t see them interact. Narration is quite fragmented, with a lot of characters and side stories, but nicely executed. Dark, chilly and I like it.

My current read, and I quite enjoy in this story.

I did not finish this in the end - it was a little slow, although I love Keigo Higashino. I‘m going to try Malice. And may come back to this (I‘ve left it at the beach house for now!).
I‘m not loving this because it‘s taking a long time to get to the investigation. But enjoying the writing and Tokyo setting. A good beach read. 😎
A great crime novel. Intricately plotted. The translator also deserves credit - the text flows seamlessly.
My beach read today. I didn‘t get very far as it was so windy! 🌪
Under the midnight sun by Kiego Higashino - From the writer of "Dhrishyam",(Wait , what ?. Yes, Dhrishyam is stolen from Kiego Higashino's Devotion of suspect X.) a brilliant book that talks about two kids who try to survive streets of Japan by establishing symbiotic relationship with each other. I know it sounds confusing but give it a try :)
Excited for this Japanese crime novel with a 'chain of unsolvable mysteries' that Detective Sasagaki pursues to the point of #obsession #MysteriousWays #MayBookFlowers #RockInMay #tbr 🕵
Such an intricately crafted crime novel set in Japan, it keeps you guessing until the very end. Not a fast paced read as many crime novels seem to be. This one examines multiple characters involved over twenty years, and how seemingly random connections are not so random after all, bringing it to a chilling conclusion. Definitely recommend!

The book was awesome. Keigo Higashino never disappoint me. It was really unexpected twist. The book taught me that there is always two sides of a story and indeed pain really did change us.
#TBRtemptation post. This mystery has received all kinds of acclaim. And the library just got itself a copy ???. A murder case in 1973 Osaka with an obsessed investigator, involving the victim's son and main suspect's daughter. Sign me up! This one will also work for a number of reading challenge categories: Asian author, Asian setting, mystery, over 500 pages, title starts with "U". #blameLitsy #blameMrBook ?
Here's a #Jenga stack the library received yesterday! I've been getting involved with cataloging and initial processing 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻!!! I love being the first one to touch beautiful fresh-from-the-press hardcover books. Before anyone else, they pass through my hands 😆☺👌🏻!!! Anything catch your eye? 😊
Starting the new year with this fattie (554 pages!) What are you reading? #2017goals
Heard about this book, I think, on #allthebooks, excellent mystery. Apparently a famous author in Japan, is compared to Patterson, Baldacci, etc. lots of twists and turns and a satisfying conclusion.
#photoadaynov16 day 17: #bookpyramid
Such fun seeing all the book pyramid posts today! Had to borrow some of my kids' books to make the apex work though!
#somethingforsept Couldn't put these books down! From top left, the mystery was just too exciting; 24 hours as a chef!; just such an awesome and thrilling storyline that leaves you reading page after page until you've reached the last in the trilogy!; the fantastic world-building that Okorafor brings to all her books #unputdownable
A quiet Saturday night as usual reading in bed. But we did have a long day with the circus, lunch with friends, then a picnic organised by the Mandarin immersion programme that my 5yo is starting at on Wednesday! This is my late entry for #augustphotochallenge which today is #currentlyreading - Higashino wrote The Devotion of Suspect X and this is his latest translated work
This book has had at least two Japanese television adaptations, a movie, and then the Korean remakes of both. Finally an English translation, which I just finished reading. It's great, and I liked the throw away cultural references that anchored time and place. 1973 murder that a detective can't let go, and the ties that bind son of the victim and the daughter of the suspect.
Reading = sport. There's weightlifting (especially on library days when I haul multiple picture books around. Also some books like the Higashino above are larger than phone books). There's marathons (readathons). There's sprints (reading as much as I can before the kids realize I'm ignoring them). Ok so I'm not much of a sporty person and one reason I walk/jog is so that I can listen to audiobooks! #augustofpages #bookphotochallenge
