Perhaps my final read of 2017. #botm #april2017
April was a good month. Read 14 books, mostly shorter. I am still reading my two longer books, The Autobiography of Malcolm X and The Daily Show.
My favorites were the Witcher series and the March graphic novels. I also unexpectedly fell in love with Silas Marner.

I felt like I read more and consistently this month, but the numbers are lower then usual. But I also dropped three books that were just not worth my time, which is sort of a new good thing for me!
Favorite: A Darker Shade of Magic

On this #ADayWithoutAWoman where I'm wearing red to school and reflecting on the deep structural inequalities in our society, this book is a great reminder that activists have the courage to speak the truth even when others want them to shut up. #SecondStoryPress #April2017
18-year-old Ruth was one of the 937 German Jews aboard the SS St. Louis, a ship full of refugees that was turned back by Cuba in 1939. 254 were killed in the Holocaust after returning to Europe. Ruth and her family eventually found passage to the US. #diversereads #refugees #NaziGermany #WWII #Annick #April2017
A powerful introduction to a beautifully illustrated nonfiction book aimed at children and young adults that features the stories of five young boat refugees from Nazi Germany, Vietnam, Cuba, Afghanistan, and Ivory Coast who found refuge elsewhere. #Annick #NetGalley #April2017
This is a fun, funny book of lovely artwork illustrating children's "big thoughts" on a wide range of topics, from the mundane to the absurd. It would make a thoughtful, quirky gift for teachers and parents. This looks so interesting! "Borderwall as Architecture is an artistic and intellectual hand grenade of a book, and a timely re-examination of what the physical barrier that divides the United States of America from the United Mexican States is and could be. It is both a protest against the wall and a projection about its future." #April2017
