Mansfield Park (200th Anniversary Edition)
Mansfield Park (200th Anniversary Edition) | Jane Austen
Jane Austen turns her unerring eye on the concerns of English society at a time of great upheaval in this historical romance classic. Mansfield Park is named for the magnificent, idyllic estate that is home to the wealthy Bertram family and that serves as a powerful symbol of English tradition and stability. The novels heroine, Fanny Pricea poor relation living with the Bertramsis acutely conscious of her inferior status and yet she dares to love their son Edmundfrom afar. With five marriageable young people on the premises, the peace at Mansfield cannot last. Courtships, entertainments, and intrigues throw the place into turmoil, and Fanny finds herself unwillingly competing with a dazzlingly witty and lovely rival. As Margaret Drabble points out in her incisive Introduction, the house becomes full of the energies of discordsibling rivalry, greed, ambition, illicit sexual passion, and vanity, and the novel grows ever more engrossing right up to Mansfields final scandal and the satisfying conclusion. Unique in its moral design and its brilliant interplay of the forces of tradition and change, Mansfield Park was the first novel of Jane Austens maturity. With an Introduction by Margaret Drabble and an Afterword by Julia Quinn From the Paperback edition.

Hoping my bookshop/library friends can help me!

I have been collecting Paper Mill Press editions of classics and have made a very preventable mistake. I didn't check before starting and now I am unsure if they have made literally all but one of Austen's completed novels?
I have been searching and googling for this collections Mansfield Park and am not finding it anywhere? They are soft leather bound editions.
If anyone could find the ISBN...👇

ChaoticMissAdventures For Mansfield Park I would be so grateful! I might be too early it looks like Northangwr Abbey was just released in 2023 so I am hoping MP will come out in the next year or so.... 3w

I find it so fascinating that as I get older this is starting to become one of my favorite Austen‘s even though Fanny and I are nothing alike, and IRL as I get older I actually get less and less patient with persistent romantic advances, and probably wouldnt‘ve forgiven Edmund for his part in the whole “just give Henry a chance” campaign.

On that event they removed to Mansfield; and the Parsonage there, which, under each of its two former owners, Fanny had never been able to approach but with some painful sensation of restraint or alarm, soon grew as dear to her heart, and as thoroughly perfect in her eyes, as everything else within the view and patronage of Mansfield Park had long been.

This was the last Austen novel I hadn't read. I enjoyed it, but I can see why it's not as popular as P&P or Emma. Fanny isn't as easy to root because she's so painfully reticent. The romance wasn't really there. I loved the drama & the double shocker at the end, but I wish living alone had been an option for Fanny (instead of the tacked on ending). I want to research the implications of Sir Bertram's business in Antigua. Probably bad, right? 😬

Clare-Dragonfly Yes, I‘m pretty sure there would have been enslaved people in his business in Antigua. ☹️ 14mo
lauraisntwilder @Clare-Dragonfly That's what I was afraid of. I think there's a nicer edition out there with an introduction/forward that goes into it a little. I wish I'd realized and sought out a better copy. 14mo
Clare-Dragonfly I‘m sure I‘ve read something explaining how Austen shows her abolitionist sentiment subtly in this book by how she talks about Antigua, but I don‘t remember what or where! 14mo

My Mansfield Park collection isn't as extensive as Pride and Prejudice but I do have three beautiful editions. All are from sets that #Pemberlittens gifted me. That makes them so special to me.

I'm really enjoying my reread. I've been swapping between editions. Today it's Wordsworth paperback. Love the fans on the cover. 💖💕

I had a hard time falling in love with Fanny Price especially after reading about Eliza and Emma but I did come around to Ms. Price and her other worldly goodness-even I had fallen for Henry Crawford!

Finished this a few weeks ago, the last Austen novel I had yet to read. I think it is my least favorite. Fanny is such a pathetic character and Edmund just seemed to settle for her in the end which was disappointing. I did enjoy Henry Crawford's character, he was more complex and devious. He was always stirring up trouble and I did appreciate that Fanny stood by her opinion of him through it all - the only time she seemed to be a strong character.

Day 2 of the #20in4 readathon saw a lot of #audiocrocheting - working on my temperature blanket
I finished one audiobook and made progress in the tagged. Mansfield is the only Austen I still haven't read so I'm finally tackling it. I'm about halfway through and I absolutely hate Mrs. Norris but Sir Thomas is surprisingly growing on me.

My bestie re-reading Mansfield Park at my urging. 😂🤣 Who agrees with her, #PemberLittens?

ravenlee 🙋🏻‍♀️ 2y
sprainedbrain 🙋🏻‍♀️ 2y
Andrea313 @ravenlee @sprainedbrain I get it, honestly. Fanny doesn't have much to recommend her throughout and Edmund is terrible. Yet...I'm drawn in by her strength in her own convictions. I hope we have another group read soon so I can re-evaluate. I did confess to my friend today that maybe my recent deep love for it was due to a pandemic-induced leave of my senses. 😂 2y
Ruthiella 🙋🏻‍♀️I keep voting for this to be the Austen book we read for #Pemberlittens but alas! It‘s my least favorite of all the novels but I want to appreciate it better. 2y
Andrea313 @Ruthiella I'm sure it'll come back around! There was a group chapter-a-day read about a year ago and something about the pace allowed me to really take a deep dive and consider every moment, and I came away absolutely loving it. I'll be curious to see if anything changes for you once the group takes it up again! 2y

Really disliked this book. The main character did not feel like a Jane Austen character at all.. a very submissive, quiet, conservative girl, contented with whatever sympathy she got, and at the end the love that she wanted was so whisy-washily decided that just made be angry 😅
