I‘m at 60%, one of the characters is trying to pry into the big mysterious scandal at the center of the book, and I‘ve realized that I just don‘t care about whatever it is or whoever is involved. 😅 I‘m just bored.
Which is a pity because Hollinghurst is excellent at grounding his stories in a time and place. I think I‘ll have to try a different book by him at another time.
When the Domesday Commissioners arrive in Canterbury they find that a charitable young woman has been found dead, apparently from a snake bite. A monk who ministers to lepers insists she was strangled first and then bitten afterwords. Then the monk himself is found poisoned.
I was nearly right. My choice of murderer turned out to be the murderer's chief henchman. The book was rather slow at first but the last third was very exciting.
A cozy murder taking place in Australia. The characters were mostly charming. The Fisher women were adventurous. They certainly had a flair about them. They seem to have talents many don‘t have. Ms Peregrine Fisher is the youngest in the current line. She finds herself entangled in a mystery that needs investigating and solving. If the shared genetic material with her Aunt has anything to do with it, no one should worry. 4/5⭐️
This book is astounding, written by 7–SEVEN-authors, about Queen Boudica‘s rebellion against Rome in Britain. Review to come. But in the Author‘s Notes, I thought it amazing that one of the authors gives so much credit to our #authoramonth Kate Quinn! I‘m so glad I read this book; it‘s a keeper (which means I‘ll have to buy a copy). I wouldn‘t have read it but for #authoramonth but I also needed it for #letterY for #litsyatoz. It‘s extraordinary.

I started this a while ago, and I‘m doing that thing where I try to finish all my books in progress. Always a mammoth task! This is an installment of a historical mystery series I‘ve really enjoyed over the years by Anna Lee Huber. I will say, per usual, I enjoyed the slow burn early books more. These are mysteries but also the love story of the two main characters. Now they‘re together it‘s a bit less compelling. Still very good!
