The Last Magician | Lisa Maxwell
post image

#AllergictoChunksters inspired me to tackle The Last Magician again - I started it 2 years ago, and didn‘t make it very far. I was determined to get through it because, as you can see, I had slowly collected the rest of the series.

Ugh, I just can‘t do it y‘all. I reached page 100 this morning and called it quits. Turned it into a #ReadORDonate situation. My local library will be getting these to sell or loan out to other readers. #hailthebail

ChaoticMissAdventures Always so frustrating when we collect all the books and they end up not for us!! now

The Last Runaway | Tracy Chevalier

This was a great book! It's been a long time since I started a book in the morning and finished it the same night.

On a lark I've decided to read all 19 of the Plantagenet and Tudor novel series. This first one is a pretty soft pick for me, the characters don't resonate well and the plot confusing (they're in France, they're in England, they're back in France who can even keep up or care) but it did feature tarot cards and common witchery so that redeems it somewhat.

Set in Spain during the Inquisition, this is a story about a scullery maid with some small magical abilities. In a desperate effort to improve her life, she allows herself to be swept up in the politics of ambitious men and women who attempt to improve their social positions by exploiting her. She finds unexpected friends, a dark and tortured soul to fall in love with (who can‘t resist that?), and discovers the depths of her magic. Fun read.

Well, that was one depressing and thought-provoking Christmas-adjacent book! I did like it though. It got a little repetitive and long-winded in some places; at a couple of places, I actually said out loud, “Will you just get to the point?!” Willis‘ take on pandemic behavior is absolutely right. #ClassicLSFBC #audiowalk

kspenmoll Lovely walk! 1d
KathyWheeler @kspenmoll It‘s one of my favorite places. Five rivers converge here, so it‘s called Five Rivers Delta Center. 1d

Driveway and sidewalks are shoveled and it is now time to warm up with a cup of hot cocoa and a good book!

This is solid if you like adventure stories with themes of religion, redemption, and some other words I won‘t articulate. I knew nothing about this book before I started reading it and it hit the mark.
