The muckety-mucks at #shakespearereadalong HQ have been chatting about our upcoming reads. Here's what we are thinking!
🎭Merchant of Venice
🎭Henry V
🎭Timon of Athens
🎭A comedy (title TBD)
🎭Henry VI (parts I, 2 & 3)
We thought a marathon read of Henry VI trilogy might keep the momentum going. That said, it's a lot of Henry! PLEASE give us your thoughts, concerns, suggestions!

mollyrotondo This looks great to me! 4y
See All 37 Comments
merelybookish @mollyrotondo Oh good! Not afraid of a little (lot) of history? 4y
merelybookish We have also talked about experimenting with our reading schedule for the Henry VI series - like maybe instead of an Act/week, we'd divy it up according to pages...but that is still up for discussion. 4y
mollyrotondo @merelybookish haha not at all! I don‘t get enough history in my life right now so this in Shakespeare form is perfectly okay for me lol 4y
merelybookish Also, we have 4 comedies left and figured we could do a vote. 4y
merelybookish @mollyrotondo Great! A very specific piece of history but history nonetheless! 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Works for me, I think grouping the histories that go together, together works well. 4y
LitStephanie I like reading the Henry VI plays back to back. 4y
Cuilin Love this line up. Especially grouping the Henry‘s. 👍 4y
catebutler I‘m looking forward to this line-up! 4y
Daisey Sounds good, and I think keeping the connected histories together makes sense. 4y
merelybookish @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @LitStephanie @Cuilin @catebutler @Daisey Oh good! I'm glad it sounds appealing. We added the comedy between Timon and Henry VI to lighten the mood but we don't have to do it. We could dive right into Henry VI if that's preferable. We could comedy for afterwards when we'll definitely need a change of pace! 4y
TheBookHippie Looks good! 4y
Trashcanman When's it starting??? 4y
merelybookish @Trashcanman We start Merchant of Venice on the 30th. 4y
Trashcanman @merelybookish thank you 🤗💥 4y
MoonWitch94 I think that sounds good. Good idea with Henry! 4y
Graywacke Thanks @merelybookish Glad to see enthusiasm for the histories! 4y
jewright I like it! 4y
batsy Thank you all for your organising! This schedule looks great. I need more history in my reading diet 🥦🥬 4y
GingerAntics So glad to see everyone excited about the history plays. Maybe we were just having trouble with Henry IV. 4y
merelybookish @batsy Lots of veggies coming your new way! 4y
merelybookish @Graywacke @GingerAntics Maybe we're the one who aren't enthusiastic about history plays. 🙈 4y
erzascarletbookgasm Line up looks good. 👍 A marathon of Henry(s)! It‘s good to have a comedy in between the histories. 4y
GingerAntics @merelybookish @Graywacke maybe. 🤷🏼‍♀️ They never seems as good to me as the real history. Maybe that‘s my own bias, though. 4y
batsy @GingerAntics @merelybookish @Graywacke His history plays tend to be my least favourite but our most recent one (Julius Caesar) has got me excited for more ... I might change my tune once we start 😂 4y
GingerAntics @batsy that one is actually classified as a tragedy. Those tend to be more fun, at least for me. I wonder if we reclassified the histories as tragedies (because let‘s be real, they all end up dead anyway right?) we might like them better? 🤷🏼‍♀️ 🤣😂🤣 I‘m not sure what it is with the histories. I like some of them, admittedly. All the Hanks though. Ugh. Maybe I just have a thing against Hank 4 because he did my Richard wrong!!! I guess we‘ll see 4y
GingerAntics @merelybookish @graywacke wait, who is leading Hank 5, or am I leading two in a row? I know we talked about trading off for the marathon, but I think I‘m getting confused now. 4y
batsy @GingerAntics Oh! Yes probably if we reclassified them as tragedies it would appear better 😂 4y
merelybookish @GingerAntics It is my turn in the rotation so I figured I was up. I got the sense you didn't want to be the only person responsible for leading the history reads. But if you'd like to do it, that's okay too. 4y
GingerAntics @merelybookish I‘m good with whatever. I know I was only leading history reads for a while in there. 4y
GingerAntics @batsy I can‘t remember now if I liked Hal. I think I liked him better than his father. Maybe that‘s what I‘m remembering. My dislike of Hank. 4y
Graywacke @merelybookish @GingerAntics I think that leaves me Timon - or at least I‘ll volunteer here. 4y
GingerAntics @merelybookish would you rather lead Henry V or the Comedy? I‘ll do whichever you don‘t want and then we‘ll each take part of Henry VI. 4y
GingerAntics @Graywacke you did such a good job with Titus, I think it‘s fitting you do Timon, too. 4y

Hey all! I am adding 3 more books to my #makemereadit list. (I am cleaning and reorganizing and I keep finding more books!!!) My original post has a better look at my other books. You can vote for more than one if you want!!! I can‘t wait to see what you pick for me!!!

So far it sounds like the Royal We is going to be my first book.

bullbunny Once upon a dream 5y
Caterina Sleeping Giants! Although I warn you that I had to immediately get the next two from my library after finishing it, it's a very hard trilogy to put down! 5y
AsYouWish @bullbunny Thabk you for your vote!!! I was hoping someone would pick that book!!! 5y
AsYouWish @Caterina Thank You for your vote!! I got that book in a book swap and they told me that even though I wasn‘t really a fan of sci-fi this book would change that. I am excited someone voted for it!!! 5y

Special shoutout to @BarbaraBB for saving the day and hosting yesterday‘s discussion of #FightClub #90sSpringFling 🥊Barb, you did a knockout job 😜and thanks to all who participated in the discussion. If you haven‘t had a chance, feel free to scroll back on Barbra‘s feed and chime in. Lots of insightful commentary🙌🏻 Now, it‘s time to think about our next read!! Something published between 2000-2009. Tag your 1 suggestion below until 4/4 👇🏼

Cinfhen THIS IS OPEN TO ALL!! If you want to join in for a #BelowZer00s buddyread in January add your name and book suggestion ☃️ 6y
Cinfhen I‘m suggesting a female author 6y
Cathythoughts @Cinfhen I‘d love to read Case Histories 👍🏻yes from me (edited) 6y
See All 27 Comments
madamereadsalot1 I'll throw this one out there. 6y
batsy Because I'm ashamed that I've had this book for a very very very long time without reading it 🙈 (But I also haven't read both the Atkinson and Ishiguro and want to vote for them both 😂) 6y
TrishB As I love Atkinson I could read again 😁 putting thinking hat one! 6y
Librarybelle I loved Case Histories but would happily read it again with others! I‘ve not read read either Never Let Me Go or The Known World. 6y
erzascarletbookgasm I have Case History on my tbr shelf, don‘t mind reading it! But I‘ll put this out there too because I think it‘ll generate lots of opinions (edited) 6y
CarolynM I've read the other Jackson Brodie books but not Case Histories and I would certainly like to. I'd also be interested in Never Let Me Go. I'm also going to throw in 6y
Cinfhen Ooooh, this is gonna be tough!! Lots of good choices already in the first hour!!! @madamereadsalot1 @batsy @erzascarletbookgasm @CarolynM we‘re collecting titles until Thursday so I‘ll be curious to see what other gems appear @Librarybelle @TrishB @Cathythoughts 6y
Cinfhen Your choice does sound great @Cathythoughts but we‘re choosing books published between 2000-2009 😘 6y
BarbaraBB It was my pleasure, thanks for having me ❤️ 6y
BarbaraBB Most of the books mentioned above I‘ve already read so I‘m throwing an obscure one from the #1001books list 6y
Mdargusch Lots of good suggestions so far! And I haven‘t read any of them so that‘s a plus. Case Histories sounds interesting though. 6y
cobwebmoth I've wanted to read this one for a while, but haven't had a chance. 6y
Megabooks I love stories about North Korea! 6y
Megabooks Also this one: I‘ve been meaning to listen to the audiobook 6y
Cinfhen Ooohhh, they both sound good @Megabooks 🙌🏻and JSF Is a total hit or miss author @cobwebmoth but I think his books make for good discussions. It‘s gonna be hard to narrow down the choices 6y
TrishB Don‘t know if we can nominate more than one? 6y
Cinfhen Excellent choices @TrishB Thanks!! 6y
TrishB Whoops I just read it‘s only one selection!! You can choose either 😁 6y
Cinfhen Hi @BarbaraBB choose three books from this list that you‘re interested in reading, I‘ll choose three ( I‘m assuming we are each choosing our own suggestion) and then I‘ll make a graphic of the 6 books selected and we‘ll put them up for votes. 6y
BarbaraBB I think Case Histories will easily win and that one sounds good. I‘ll nominate that one, and Kieron Smith Boy and Veronica! (edited) 6y

Dear Litsy,
Flying home for Thanksgiving next weekend and will see one of my friends who married a novelist (and meet him for the first time.) Do I read one of his novels this week? Please advise.

What should I read next? This is my August TBR. The globe at the bottom represents a Botswana book for the #readaroundtheworld challenge but haven't picked it yet. Elmet arrives in a week or so.

I'm feeling mildly optimistic that I may actually finish in time. Just finished Swing Time so only 4 more #manbooker longlist books left!!

JenP To be fair, I can't quite cross off Artamonov business yet since I'm still reading it. 7y
LeahBergen Hmm... Reservoir 13 or Autumn (because I want to read those, too). 😄 7y
JenP @LeahBergen I'm leaning that way 😊. I am particularly excited to read Reservoir 13 but part of me also wants to leave it to the end so I have something to look forward to. 7y
See All 11 Comments
BarbaraBB Choices, choices, but you're definitely going to finish the longlist. Impressive! 7y
BarbaraBB And I am looking forward to your review of Swing Time. Somehow I don't feel like reading it. I'll have to, of course 😉! 7y
JenP @BarbaraBB I was lucky enough to have already read 5 before the list was announced. Last year, I hadn't read any of them and it was a bit of a scramble. 7y
ReadingEnvy I'm hitting Reservoir 13 next myself, after a break with a fluff read. 7y
JenP @ReadingEnvy how many have you read now? 7y
ReadingEnvy I've read five, bailed on another, and have three on hand. 7y
JenP @ReadingEnvy wow, that's great! Which one did you bail on? Days without end? 7y
ReadingEnvy @JenP yeah. I'd read three when the list was named - Swing Time, Lincoln in the Bardo, and Exit West. Now I've added Autumn and Home Fire. 7y

I think that after ploughing through so very many books last month for #AsianLitBingo (see my previous few posts for the books I read), I feel a bit lost when it comes to #JuneMostAnticipated for #junebookbugs

I'd like to read a few books on my shelves (my birthday is next month and I'm definitely buying books!), borrow comics from the library, and who knows what you Littens may influence me to pick up next (hint: fire up those recs below!)

DebinHawaii I want to read Pachinko but I don't think it will happen this month so I left it off my #TBR stack. Moloka'i is excellent so I put in a plug for reading it! 🌺 7y
wen4blu I second Moloka'i! I just picked up another of his books to try as well. 7y

This big stack is staring at me and I have no idea what to pick next. 😬 What do you suggest? (One on the top is The Martian Chronicles by Bradbury)

CAGirlReading The Sparrow, hands down!😄 8y
SusanInTiburon Can't go wrong there, I think! Sparrow's hard to beat, but Remains of the Day left a big impression on me. 8y
Aluciddreamstate The brief wondrous life of oscar wao I would highly recommend (edited) 8y
See All 14 Comments
ReadingEnvy A bunch of us are reading East of Eden for the #readingenvyreadathon, The Sparrow is intense and so good, Oscar Wao is a unique and memorable voice. Those would be three votes! 8y
AlaMich I think the new audio version of Oscar Wao is my next read. It's read by Lin-Manuel Miranda; I listened to a sample and he sounds great! 8y
AlaMich But also, Into Thin Air is unputdownable!!! Seriously!! You will feel yourself getting frostbite. 8y
CrowCAH The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, because it's the only book in your stack I've read. 8y
emilyhaldi I read this book in high school and loved it. I keep seeing people posting about it recently and it has me dying to read again!!! 8y
mcipher The only one I've read is this one, which I really loved. 8y
BarbaraJean I'm adding my vote for The Sparrow!! SO. GOOD. But East of Eden, too... 8y
Bostonmomx2 East of Eden!!!! 8y
LeahBergen Into Thin Air if you are feeling like addictive nonfiction adventure. The Remains of the Day if you feel like pre WW2 England with spectacular writing. 😁 (edited) 8y

Littens: I need help picking my next audiobook! I recently got back into them, but I am still working on my listening skills so I've noticed it's easier to listen to a light YA or chick-lit. Not super long (under 10-12 hours), and preferably a bit older so I can get it from the library without a hold. Any thoughts?!

Lacythebookworm Have you listened to Fangirl? 8y
Chelsibno I think it's longer than what you're looking for, but Ready Player One is among my favorite audiobooks. On the shorter side, I really enjoyed the audiobooks of Wonder, In Order to Live, Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, and The Kite Runner. (edited) 8y
See All 13 Comments
Kaylamburson Thanks for all the suggestions!! @Lacythebookworm, I've been meaning to try some of Rowell's stuff, so that's a great suggestion. It looks like my library doesn't have Garden Spells, @KarenUK 😢. I wonder if there aren't US rights. @Chelsibno I have ears really good thing about Ready Player One. It's on hold right now, but maybe I'll request it! I did LOVE Wonder. Such a sweet story. I've meaning meaning to read The Kite Runner. 8y
Kaylamburson @irre I have heard good things about Ember, so another good suggestion! @joanne1, The Knife of Never Letting Go sounds super fascinating. Such a strange concept! 8y
Kaylamburson Oooo Daughter of Smoke and Bone sounds creepy and fun @kmdartist 8y
Chelsibno @Kaylamburson The Kite Runner was the first audiobook I had listened to that was narrated by its author. I enjoyed Hosseini's narration. While listening, I felt assured that each line was delivered with the intended emotion and that every character's name and word was pronounced correctly. I've been burned in the past by narrators who couldn't pronounce proper nouns accurately. (I'm looking at you, Savvy.) 8y
moranadatter @Kaylamburson If you like it, it's the first book in a trilogy so there's more. I also LOVED this one: 8y
Kaylamburson Getting Over Garrett Delaney sounds like the exact read I'm looking for right now @kmdartist 8y
Kaylamburson Yes, @Chelsibno! I love audiobooks, but I also notice the characters are more likely to annoy me when I listen to them instead of read them. I think hearing the author's voice would fix some of those problems. 8y
