Pickpick

Pam Houston writes about the wilderness and her need for river, snow, and mountainous adventures. Some say this is a collection of essays. Maybe. I think of it more as a memoir of a life lived in the great outdoors. Her writing is beautiful and honest. In some ways in reminds me of Ann Patchett‘s This is the Story of a Happy Marriage.

CaliforniaCay @tjwill and @KVanRead it makes me feel better to know I'm not alone! I'm so jealous of people who can keep plants alive🤣 it's the thought that counts right? 🤷🏿‍♀️ 4y

ElizaMarie ooo curious about your book related tattoos. And congrats on Duolingo! Wow! Do you listen to the podcasts too? 4y
CaliforniaCay @ElizaMarie I have JRR Tolkiens initials on my wrist, the Harry Potter HP on my ankle and the symbol for the maji of air (from children of blood and bone) on my shoulder. So far! Thanks, and no I haven't listened to any podcasts but I'd like to get back into puzzling soon and I think when I do I'll listen to podcasts and audio books as I do them. Are there any in particular you recommend? 4y
ElizaMarie @CaliforniaCay well I like True Crime podcasts (My Favorite Murder, Sinisterhood, Last Podcast on the Left).. but the original comment was about the Duolingo podcast. They tell a story in the ln Spanish with a few English explanations here and there. They are about 20 min each and the stories have been entertaining. 4y
CaliforniaCay @ElizaMarie haha ohhhh duh! I've seen the ads and emails from duolingo about the podcast but haven't listened yet. I'll try it out one of these days, thanks! 4y

AsYouWish @RachelO It is amazing. It is like a paint by number kit. You get a canvas that has sticky stuff on it and lots of little pieces of plastic that you put into the correct spot. The pieces of plastic shimmer like diamonds when the light hits them. 6y
rockpools @AsYouWish Sounds lovely! Kind of between painting by numbers and a jigsaw, perhaps? (With added sparkle 💫). I‘ve never come across this before! 6y

Phew, I had a really hard time figuring out what to write but here's my list! I have been enjoying reading all the others :)

@laur89 hey girl it's been awhile since I spoke to you. Maybe you're interested in this if you haven't already? :)

Lauram I hope you find it easy and are wildly successful (#20) 😊 6y
akckitty @Lauram Thank you! Moving past grudges for me is a process that takes healing through the experiences and it's more of just being strong enough to work through the hurt rather than me not wanting to do it haha. So thanks a bunch for encouragement!! 6y

I have a chronic illness that kind of rules my life. I spend a lot of time at home because there are many days when I'm too sick to leave the house. I've always loved reading, but in 2015 I started really dedicating myself to it and it has helped so much with my illness-related depression. Now I have something immensely fulfilling that I can do from the comfort of my home. Reading has given me a way to live meaningfully. ❤️

Alisnazzy I can relate to this so much. Sending you love 😘💖😘💖 8y

Lizpixie Welcome to the chronic illness reading club🙋🏼 The membership rules quite frankly suck, but it's good to know you're not alone. I too have a few chronic illnesses that cause me a lot of pain and related depression, which means I rarely leave the house anymore. Reading and the Internet (especially Litsy) are the only things keeping me sane, I'm sure there are a lot of us in the same boat on here. There are people who understand completely here.🙂 8y
BookishFeminist ❤️❤️ hugs! You're not alone. While this isn't a chronic physical illness I have PTSD and have been on a hiatus from working an office job in order to recuperate. It's not fun & often makes me feel left out but reading has been a lifesaver. It's such a powerful tool to overcome lots of different kinds of pain & I'm glad you're finding it therapeutic despite being stuck with a shitty chronic illness that makes you stay home more than you want. 😘 8y
mauveandrosysky @Lizpixie the membership rules really are THE WORST! 😂 So glad you have a sense of humor about it though. That's another thing that has been key in keeping me sane. ❤️ Glad we're in this together...well, as glad as I can be. 8y
