What a beautiful edition of The Snow Queen I have read today! I completely forgot all the details of this famous Danish fairytale, and surprisingly, it felt very comforting after a stressful day at work.
#Sundayfunday @ozma.of.oz
My mother used to read to me all the time! And I was obsessed with the tagged story, and Little Mermaid! Also when I was 7,Jurassic Park, the movie came out,and I loved it so much that my dad picked out fun bits from the book and gave it to me to read,so that would be the first "grown-up" book I read with someone ?
It took me 3 tried to get through this short story (1.25 hour audiobook). Julie Whelan‘s narration was lovely and I enjoyed the themes of love and friendship. I also that it was the girl who went on a long journey to rescue the boy. 😄 However, the tale was disjointed and dull at times. Perhaps it was the translation? My first read of the new year: not an auspicious start.
#52bookclub23. A book I meant to read last year.
I keep forgetting to post this but I decided to join the #ChildrensClassicsRead2022 for December because it‘s been ages since I read this HCA classic & then I fell in love with this copy, illustrated by Sanna Annukka at my Barnes & Noble last month. I enjoyed rereading the story of Gerda & her fight to save Kai from the Snow Queen & the drawings just pulled me in further, capturing the cold winter vibe of the book. A quick & fun winter reread.💙
I found this vintage VHS tape of the 1957 animated movie The Snow Queen at a library book sale. It was very similar to the enchanting book. And it even featured the voices of child stars from that era: Sandra Dee and Tommy Kirk, with a prologue by Art Linkletter. Definitely worth the 50 cents I paid for it! 😉

I read this for the first time and was pleasantly surprised at the role reversal. The girl rescuing the boy is very refreshing. It's not my favourite fairy tale but I'm glad to have read it. I'm more of a Grimm girl tbh.
I‘m pleased to read that Hans Christian Andersen wrote about a girl who ventured out bravely to save a boy in this magical tale. With her determination and faith, and the help of some interesting characters, she was able to save him from the Snow Queen. For once it‘s not a fairy tale about a prince saving a princess.

I picked up this collection at work and read the whole thing to include The Snow Queen. I had not yet read this one so it was amazing to lose myself in a new fairytale.
Somehow this is one of those fairy tales that I never read in its entirety. It's a perfect December read for those living in the Northern Hemisphere; the chilly, snowy vibes are immaculate. I loved how the devil in the form of a troll creates an enchanted mirror that distorts everything it reflects. That's a bit of sophisticated philosophy/theology for young readers to think about. So glad to have read it! #ChildrensClassicRead2022 @TheBookHippie
This was another great classic fairy tale. I thoroughly enjoyed this translation and the illustrations it included.
#ChildrensClassicRead2022
When I took a look at the copy I‘d planned to read for #ChildrensClassicRead this month, I realized my childhood version actually did have the original text with a very slightly different translation. But even growing up with the original, the details were way more gruesome than I‘d realized. I think in the 80s instead of discussing difficult passages in readalouds with kids people just skipped over them.👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
These fairy tale books belonged to my dad when he was a little boy. They‘ve obviously been very well read and well loved.

Listened to a couple of audiobooks, one from @TheBookHippie & another from Hoopla. A great story to end the year of #ChildrensClassicRead2022. Thanks @TheBookHippie for organizing this and picking great books! Can‘t wait for #ChildrensClassicRead2023!
Magical and beautifully written, the perfect way to kick off December reading! Great on #audio! #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks #WinterReadathon @Andrew65 @GHABI4ROSES @DieAReader
repost for @TheBookHippie:
Our last one for 2022!! #ChildrensClassicRead2022 DECEMBER
“The Snow Queen“ (Danish: Snedronningen) is an original fairy tale
written by Hans Christian Andersen (1805–1875).
The story is one of Andersen's longest and most highly acclaimed stories. It is regularly included in selected tales and collections of his work and is frequently reprinted in illustrated storybook editions for children.
Everyone welcome!! 💙 📘
@thebookhippie has posted the December #childrensclassicread See her post for more information or tag her and let her know you would like to join in.
#Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView @Eggs thank you so much for the tag!
1. I've seen it only twice in my life! It looked beautiful but I have no idea what it would be like to live with a snowy winter!
2.Winter is the absolute best time of year in India.Pre-covid,my favourite winter activity used to be a yearly trip to Delhi, eat my favourite lemon pancakes at Elma's,buy books at the excellent bookshops, and walk down Rajpath and Lodhi Gardens.
I finished this last night. My final read of #dashingdecember. Believe it or not, this was my first Hans Christian Anderson, though of course I know many of his stories. I enjoyed this one a lot and probably will read a few more HCA stories soon. #wintergames2021 #teamgamesleighers #bfc21 #wintercosy #averymerryreadathon #averymerrybingo #christmasmyway #blackwellsbookshelfreadathon
Kai and Gerda are best friends. Then one day Kai disappears and Gerda goes in search of him. Along the way she gets some help and are told different stories.
I can‘t believe this was the inspiration for “Frozen”, there‘s not many similarities.
5th book for #DashingDecember
@Andrew65
I decided to listen to Hans Christian Andersen for this month's #FairytaleReadingChallenge it was sweet and I never realized the connection to The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe till this time. @Charityann I want to thank you for this challenge. One of my favorites for 2021 came from this challenge. Spinning Silver
I listened to this version of The Snow Queen produced by Audible this season. This fairy tale of love, magic and self-realisation has lots of wintry scenes. The story (with beautiful illustrations) brings to life the mysticism of the winter season.
Trying to stay warm and stay busy, Dreaming of spring and Season 3 of Stranger Things. Mad at myself for forgetting to put Mike at the Snowball dance funko in this pic 🤦♀️
The Snow Queen is one of my favorite fairy tales especially when it‘s retold. Are there any other Littens who used to watch Fairy Tale Theater hosted by Shelly Duvall as a kid? I used to love that show & the Snow Queen was one of my favorite episodes. She‘s a total bad ass!!! Yassss Queen!!!! #heas #happilyeverafterswap #snowqueen #retellings #badassbitches
Started and finished The Snow Queen - love it! Much darker than the Disney adaption, but I loved the premise much more than Disney‘s adaption. I also finished MATBIBS. I thought it was okay, I wished more of the story occurred in the bookstore & there were a few places where words should be capitalized and they weren‘t. This brings my #25infive total up to 24 hours & 11 minutes! Only 49 more and I‘ll complete this #readathon 🎉
So far for the #25inFive #readathon I've read for 1:42 minutes.
I finished reading Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin and started and completed Hans Christian Anderson's The Snow Queen on audiobook.
My plans are to read at least 15 hours of Gone with the Wind and 10 hours of a horror book I need to pass along for #horrorpost.
#WinterWonderland Day 6: With the number of variations of this story, one can claim #50WordsForSnow Queen, that is, or more. There is something so absolutely enchanting with the way the story is depicted by Pavel Tatarnikov in this version, that it matters little really how long the text is.
