Snowflake Bentley | Jacqueline Briggs Martin

Wow what a cool book about the man who took pictures of snowflakes! Mr. Bentley was fascinated with snow so much that when he received a camera as a gift, he perfected taking pictures of snowflakes. Pretty illustrations and a wonderful story.

TheBookHippie I love this book! 2d

Perfect and breathtakingly stunning. Grandmother Nature makes a quilt out of geese feathers and when she waves the quilt, winter comes with snow and the cold. The illustrations are just beautiful as well as the story.

TheBookHippie I agree! 2d

Hello, fellow #wintercamplitsy campers! We know you like to see some of the ‘nearly-made it‘ books when it comes to camp voting!

The above 9 books are in order of voting, with The Road to Tender Hearts being the closest to making our top 3.

Interestingly, The Antidote was in the top 3 for the first half of voting, but fell away later on, whereas Good Dirt did the opposite.

What do you think of these - any you‘ve read or plan to read anyway?

CatLass007 I‘ve got The Road to Tender Hearts on hold at my library but the wait is several months. 4d
squirrelbrain I‘ve read 6 of these and will start The Garden (and probably the Vuong) today. I also hope to start The Road to Tender Hearts over Christmas. 4d
Ruthiella I‘m definitely going to read Flashlight at some point! 🤞I think I will put it on my #Roll100 list for 2026. 4d
mcctrish I bought myself The Road to Tender Heart when I was Christmas shopping (1 for them and 1 for me) and I have The Dream Hotel coming up on an audio hold from the library soon 4d
TrishB I‘ve read 4. Have 2 on the pile. Will await your review of The Garden to see if I‘m tempted and The Road to Tender Hearts doesn‘t look like it‘s for me! 4d
kspenmoll Thank you! I have only read Good Dirt but own a few others! 4d
kspenmoll @Ruthiella I have Flashlight! 4d
Prairiegirl_reading The Road to Tender Hearts is my favourite book of the year! As I‘m checking out top 10/favourite lists I‘m more interested in The Antidote, flashlight, and mothers and sons. And I voted for Dream Hotel which I think sounds interesting. 4d
AmyG I want to read Road to Tender Hearts and Sonia and Sunny. 4d
Leniverse I loved The Emperor of Gladness. Been meaning to read the Dream Hotel and Flashlight for months. The Antidote is on my "maybe" list, which means I probably won't get around to it unless it lands in my lap ? 3d
Suet624 Dream Hotel still haunts me. 3d
Kitta Dying to read the Emperor of Gladness. Huge fan of ocean Vuong. 3d
BarbaraJean I‘m definitely planning to read Flashlight and Sonia & Sunny… although I doubt I‘ll get to them right away! Road to Tender Hearts and Dream Hotel are also up there on the TBR. 3d
LeeRHarry The Garden intrigues me and I will be reading The Antidote for my irl bookclub next year. 😊 3d
squirrelbrain Good job it didn‘t get chosen, then! 😜 @CatLass007 3d
squirrelbrain I think you‘ll really like Flashlight! @Ruthiella @kspenmoll 3d
squirrelbrain The perfect way to do Christmas shopping! 😝 @mcctrish 3d
squirrelbrain @TrishB - I didn‘t think The Road to Tender Hearts would be for me either (too fluffy?!) but Holly @Hooked_on_books says it‘s not, so we‘ll see! 3d
squirrelbrain @Prairiegirl_reading - good to hear that about Tender Hearts. Dream Hotel is very good, but sinister and haunting, as @Suet624 says. 3d
squirrelbrain I really liked Sonia and Sunny @AmyG @barbarajean although it is a chunkster so probably a good thing it didn‘t make the top 3! (edited) 3d
squirrelbrain @Leniverse @leerharry - I think you‘d really appreciate The Antidote - there‘s a LOT to think about. (edited) 3d
squirrelbrain Yes, I‘m looking forward to Emperor too @Kitta - I have a signed indie bookshop special edition! 3d
TrishB I‘ll await your review on the sugar level 😉 3d
Hooked_on_books @TrishB I don‘t like saccharine books at all and despite the title suggesting it would be, it‘s not! I‘ve read all of Hartnett‘s books and she puts enough melancholy in them to balance the emotions well. I endorse it! (But of course you can still wait for Helen‘s review! 😉) 3d
Caroline2 I still want to read The Antidote and Dream hotel. Maybe some of the others too…? 3d
Kitta @squirrelbrain I have a signed copy too! 3d
willaful I voted for the Road to Tender Hearts. Not sure I'm interested in any of the others. 3d
BarbaraBB I am reading The Garden now and interested in Mothers and Sons, Sonia and Sunny and Flashlight. Personally I didn‘t like Dream Hotel and Emperor of Gladness much. 3d
BarbaraJean @squirrelbrain I hadn‘t realized how long it was until I looked it up for wintercamp voting… and the page count *almost* lost it my vote! You‘re absolutely right—it‘s all for the best it didn‘t win! 3d
TrishB @Hooked_on_books I loved Rabbit Cake, then didn‘t like Unlikely Animals so I I‘m a bit on the fence really. And it‘s really expensive here so I‘d have to be very convinced! 3d
Chelsea.Poole I‘ve read 4 of these and currently reading The Garden which I am very invested in, anxious to see how this all ends up! Also, I‘m likely going to give Mother and Sons a try as well as Tender Hearts and Good Dirt. 3d
Leniverse @squirrelbrain Well in that case... 🤔 Checked the library and they have two copies of the Antidote just sitting there, so I guess I will read it! 3d
Leniverse It seems I have Mothers and Sons marked as want to read on Goodreads, but I have no recollection of doing that. Even worse, I don't remember ever having read the blurb although I must have done so for the winter camp vote, if not before. Pre-xmas brain is not braining! 🤯😵‍💫 3d
squirrelbrain Yes, The Garden is very intriguing isn‘t it?! @Chelsea.Poole 2d
squirrelbrain That‘s what I like to hear @Leniverse - my book-enabling skills are still strong! 😜 2d
CarolynM Thank you for the lovely Christmas card, Helen. And I love your Christmas donation - what a great cause to support 💖💖💖 1d
squirrelbrain You‘re welcome! @CarolynM Thank you for your card too and have a lovely Christmas! 🎄 13h
