⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I enjoyed this book immensely. Joe intertwined the last few years of his son Beau‘s life with his time as Vice President in this book. I feel like I have been given a glance into the Biden family and am better for it.

On the eve of Inauguration Day, may we all have something to hope for.
4 chapters in to this one so far tonight. I‘ve had it on my shelf for yrs, & hadn‘t been able to bring myself to read it, for all my grief at having lost this vision of America. Until now. I‘m swinging wildly btwn wanting to cry & wanting to throw up w/relief, relieved to have a good, humble, moral man in the nation‘s house once again. Seeing in retrospect—20/20 vision, amirite—that this is his purpose and always has been—to be a healer in chief.
While I usually tend to read fantasy, or at least fiction books, getting deeply involved with politics this past year, (and especially now with the election), I‘ve been inspire to read more by these leaders whom I have so greatly come to admire. We live in historic times, there is no denying that. And these three will go down in history as some of yet greats. And so, I wish to embrace their wisdom now.
Honor and integrity have been restored. Now let‘s get to the hard work of making America a fairer place for all, especially marginalized communities; controlling this pandemic; protecting the environment; and righting the economy for everyone, not just those with stocks. Let‘s do it!
I made it! I actually had the TV on at the right time after four days. Maybe by tomorrow I can focus on something else.
BTW, Promise Me, Dad is a great book.
Well, that was rough.
I do think the momentum faltered several times when he abruptly shifted gears from the family to Ukraine, Iraq, or the Northern Triangle. But I think it helped to reinforce what he was tasked with in his role as VP while simultaneously enduring the most tremendous heartbreak.
My heart broke for Joe and his family. A free space on #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks
What an incredible story. The love he demonstrated for his son during the most challenging fight of his life was admirable. I really enjoyed seeing through different eyes the dedication he had for his family even during a time when his career had such demanding expectations.
My new read so far I am loving it. Two chapters in.
This was my #bookgiftedtome for #booked2019 and also an entry for my #readthecandidates challenge. I actually really enjoyed this. Joe Biden shows his humanity in this story of a terribly difficult time in his life with the loss of his son.i see the appeal of Joe Biden when I see this side of him. It was terribly sad at parts but yet ended on a hopeful note. Was on the fence about this one but glad I listened to it.
Y‘all, I‘ve been reading this book for literally two months. It‘s not a hard read, but I‘m just not into finishing it. I‘m in a book slump and I need help! #whattoread #bookslump #helpme (also throwback to this internet gem)
Spent $10 on my lunch break, some for me, some for daughters. I‘m happy 😊🤓
This book is a love story. It's about Former VP Joe Biden's love for his family and for his country. Biden has had to deal with a lot of loss and he uses this experience to comfort others. #promise #literarylove @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @vkois88
Who doesn‘t love a good cry before a workout 😥
Unfortunately I just can't finish this right now and it was due back at the library. There's a lot more foreign policy than I was expecting, which isn't a bad thing, but just isn't holding my attention. I'll try again another time 🤷🏼♀️
Started Biden's book last night, I can already feel the tears brewing on this one.
“This can happen again. This is happening in other parts of the world now. And you have to speak out. You can‘t remain silent. Silence is complicity.”
It‘s so disheartening to watch as we repeat our mistakes. History should teach us what not to do. We‘re really bad at this.
I liked this book. It was a wonderful tribute to his son, and learning about his thought process to not run for president was interesting. The foreign policy stuff was boring but it was necessary for context and memoir purposes. Beau meant a lot to Delaware (I say that as a long-term resident) and I wish he had touched on that a bit more but that wasn‘t necessarily the point of the book. I wouldn‘t say it‘s required political reading but it‘s good
Tonight I had the honor of hearing Joe Biden talk about his book, his family, and his life of service. I miss him and President Obama so much. Bonus: He was interviewed by Celeste Ng!
So glad that I got to finish this! I have always respected and had an affinity for Joe Biden, but this book increased that affinity more so. He has gone through a lot and has always put his family and service to our country first. It made me super sad for our current state of affairs after reading the details of his Vice Presidency. His voice really comes through and I‘m grateful to still have that voice in our world.
I started this earlier this year and then my library hold expired before I could finish it. I had to go back on the wait list. It just *finally* came back to me! It‘s so lovely to hear about an administration that actually was concerned about foreign policy and service of country rather than self service 😭 I also love hearing Joe Biden‘s “voice” speak lovingly about his son. ❤️🙏
Reading this book, which chronicles the year his son died, made me admire Joe Biden more. It was of course very sad in many parts, but it's also inspiring in the way he and his family coped. It could be jarring to go from the family story to the world issues he was handling as vice president but I imagine it was for him too. There are also a lot of insights into his decision not to run for president and into his relationship with President Obama.
Nearly three hours of reading and I‘ve finished the tagged memoir. Tissues are definitely needed, but Biden‘s story is well-worth it. #13inThree @Samplergal
First up for #13inThree is Joe Biden. I started this a while back but had to read a library book before I could finish. I‘m seeing him soon, in conversation with Celeste Ng! I can‘t wait. @Samplergal
Joe Biden is such a nice man who has my utmost respect. Such a powerful message about loss, finding the strength to move forward and living to honor others. #nonfiction2018 🇺🇸 Happy Memorial Day weekend to my fellow Americans.
Pro tip: Don‘t read this memoir by VP Biden during lunch hour at work while wearing mascara. (Tear-stained face not pictured)
@BookNAround I got in early enough to Asheville to make it to Malaprops! Thank you for the recommendation!
Such a cheesy picture but an amazing book! I read it while working the front desk and made a bit of a spectacle of myself; crying at the sweet relationship between father and son. Not overly political but gave a new perspective to events during the previous administration. So glad I got back on the waitlist after having to return it unfinished the last time I got it.
This memoir is a deep dive into heartache, family, and politics. Strange bedfellows, to be sure. But Joe Biden has a fierce dedication to family and country. For every chapter about the rigors of the Vice Presidency (Joe logged a million air miles in eight years), there are two about his son Beau‘s battle with cancer. Their family pulls together beside each other for the battle of a lifetime. Tissues needed.

Nine pages in and I‘m already bawling. How am I going to get through this one? I owe it to Joe and Beau to keep reading. But seriously. I‘m 😭😭

#nonfiction2018 is well underway thanks to @Riveted_Reader_Melissa for organizing and @Booksandcooks for creating it!
This book was excellent and absolutely gut wrenching even though I knew what was going to happen. I definitely cried while reading this. I especially found the parts about Beau‘s brother, Hunter to be so extremely sad. I got so caught up in the book I forgot to eat dinner until 9 😳
Starting a new book and taking a bath before work. I think I hurt my back the other day so hoping this epsom salt will help.
Little library stack! Like I don‘t have enough books to read at home 🤣
My nonfiction book for the month is being returned without me being able to finish it 🤦🏻♀️ The Type A in me cant stand that! Back on the list I go...I‘m now number 14 😏
I couldn‘t finish it. Quite a boring story from Mr. Biden. I couldn‘t stay into it. It focused on his family and I saw where he was going but... I just couldn‘t stick with it
A little more foreign policy than I was expecting, but overall a touching account of Joe Biden‘s love of family and grief for his son.
Joe Biden is the only Valentine I need tonight 💕🌹🍫❤️📚📚
I have this, but haven't been able to read it yet. I know it's going to make me sad. #promises #heartsandhardcovers @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
I wanted to love this as much as I love Joe Biden. The man has been through a lot of tragedy and keeps going. He is inspirational in that aspect. I would advise skipping this one if you don‘t love reading about foreign policy. I didn‘t mind it myself, just not at all what I was expecting. Also #catsoflitsy
Joe Biden's memoir of the year his son Beau lost his battle with brain cancer. During this time VP Biden was working on multiple foreign affairs issues and trying to decide if he would run for President. I shed many tears while reading this book, but skimmed through large sections. Some of it seemed egotistical, which is not at all my general opinion of the former VP. I'm giving it a pick because it had to be tough to write and deserves a read.
All of my library holds continue to come in at once! This one is sure to be a tear-jerker.. 😪
Fresh arrival in our collection for #signedsundays!
A good read. A hard read. A reminder to always have hope.
