“I learned (what I suppose I really knew already) that one can never go back, that one should not ever try to go back—that the essence of life is going forward. Life is really a One Way Street, isn‘t it?”
Number ten in my Year of Marple. Not my favorite as far as the mystery is concerned, but I loved the setting (cozy, old-fashioned Bertram‘s Hotel, London) and all of Miss Marple‘s reminiscing as well as her reflections on time and change.
I‘ve settled into a routine of 2 or 3 at a time, in different formats.
I loved The Violin Conspiracy.
It‘s probably sacrilegious to bail on Agatha Christie, but I did bail on the tagged book. There was too much side story and not enough Miss Marple. This was for book club, and I wasn‘t the only one who bailed. We also had the option to watch the video of the series episode, which was enjoyable.

Another excellent mystery featuring Miss Marple! I especially love the audiobooks narrated by Stephanie Cole. I find her voice very soothing when discussing murder. 🙃
#audiobook #mystery
This was a Miss Marple I hadn't read previously. It was enjoyable if a little obvious. #cozymystery #cozies
I can tell why this is slated as one of AC‘s lower ranked stories. First I noticed was that Mis Marple -her detective- is barely mentioned besides being an old lady basically snooping. I could not get a handle on the plot at all, and not in the way that AC usually write to make you question. But that nothing made sense, even with the quick close up. Which didn‘t help understand what was going on. couldn‘t get in it. Not good first Marple #whodunit
Here is my second librarian recommended AC novel. I‘m a little worried of the poor book condition with the back pages ready to fall out
This also appears to become my introduction to AC‘s female detective: Jane Marple. Excited yet a little apprehensive from recently hearing this is one of her lower ranked mysteries. It seems that, on vacation, Marple finds herself solving a mystery. Sounds like Scooby-Doo there. #whodunit
It wasn‘t a great story. Hardly any mention of Miss Marple. There was then a rush to tie up the loose ends. #agathachristie #missmarple
I tend to assume I've read like every AC before but I don't think I ever read this one. It was quite enjoyable aside from such crime-centred novels not being her best IMO. ⭐⭐⭐
I read this June 9-13 and rated it 3.5 ⭐️. I liked this Miss Marple story, but found some elements of the plot a little too over the top. It wasn‘t bad but it felt a little too busy.
#ReadingMM moving on to the next title 😉
At Bertram's Hotel was not as impressive, despite a plot unusual from her other settings. And Miss Marple was back in the sidelines, unlike the last few mysteries, when she was the main star just as I like it.
Listening to the dramatised #audio made up for the lacklustre plot. Dramatisation had a slightly extended ending and the adaptation was a thrill to listen to.
Enjoying the #audio dramatisation of this #mystery in between catching up with the #ebook or paperback... Hehehe

Not Aggie's best, especially among the amazing Marple series. It felt like it should have been a Poirot.
I guess Christie and I just aren‘t a great fit. I‘ve tried a handful now and I just don‘t get invested in the characters or mysteries. I do though enjoy the Ms. Marple TV adaptations - go figure.
Miss Marple comes up from the country and stays in Bertram‘s Hotel in London - a majestic grandeur of a hotel with traditional decor, impeccable service - just what she needs to treat herself on a holiday. Yet Miss Marple does not foresee the dangers and violence that are about to happen.
An enjoyable read.

I enjoyed this overall, but it didn‘t measure up to my favorite Miss Marples. I feel like she was relegated to a bit of a witness/bystander role in this one. Added to that, I put too many of the pieces together before the reveal, so the ending felt anticlimactic. Ah, well. A middling Agatha Christie is still lots of fun. 😊
Just started this one for my commute audiobook—I‘ve been missing having an Agatha Christie mystery going!
I‘m in such a book slump. I‘ve read 7 books in August. And 3 were YA, and 3 were Christie re-reads. Gah. I‘m falling behind on reviews, but I can‘t seem to make myself focus on a book! 🤷🏼♀️ #jesshowreads2018
In England, it was all afternoon tea, all the time! (Well, at least in the afternoon)
The details are up on my blog! Including egg salad 😋

It didn‘t happen with this book, but I love ❤️ the feeling!!!
This was another enjoyable Miss Marple mystery. I loved the setting of this one.
Christmas makes me want to read all the cozy murder mysteries! I‘ve blown through all of Dame Agatha‘s. Any one have any other cozy murder mystery recommendations? #cozymurdermystery
I started my holiday shopping by buying one item. I am so accomplished! Now I can slack off and finish next month;)
And so my goal of owning all of Dame Agatha‘s mysteries gets closer to realization with this recent acquisition. #bookhaul 📚
Using the extra day off to join Miss Marple for a little adventure. Of course there's the added benefit that the cover for this edition matches my bedroom paint almost perfectly. Love this Black Dog & Leventhal series. #camouflage
Ah, Miss Marple... A comfort read, with a cup of tea.
Om Nom Nom at Miss Marples Tea Room
There are only about 5-10 Agatha Christie novels that I haven't read yet, and I try to savor them, but I just flew through this one in a day! It was a Miss Marple one with good secondary characters, a setting of a stately old London hotel, and several layers of mystery. The cats and I snuggled under a matching blanket to finish it!
#Londoncalling #rockinmay Miss Marple spends some time in London at this seemingly perfect hotel. Guess what happens! Time travel to medieval London or venture below the London tube , Mind the Gap . Visit Victorian London and follow the life of a Queen. I love ❤️ reading about London 📚
Finished another Miss Marple book. Just a couple more and I'll be done with the series. This was a good one.
This was the kind of lobby I envisioned for Bertram's Hotel. Luxurious. Deep, thick carpets your feet sink into. Warm and inviting. But is it really?
I enjoy Miss Marple stories, but tend to feel she's under-utilised.
This was the perfect palate cleanser after my last bail. Agatha, you came through for me once again.
(Photo from Google.)
"...Always been her own worst enemy..."
"A really nice conventional remark..."
Is this something that people say about ambitious or daring women?
It kind of minimises their achievements or concerns.
Has this been said of you? Is this something people only say about girls or women, or am I wrong about that?
I AM happy to be corrected. After all, according to some, I AM my own worst enemy!
?
(Lola cat makes a good book rest.?)
Which one of you Littens mentioned needing a "pallet cleanser" after a difficult book?
I'm digging the cheesy 80's cover here.
Agatha. Agatha! You're my only hope.
Read some heavy stuff and followed that up with an episode of Fortitude Season 2, for reasons no one can understand. So now that I'm depressed *and* freaked out, it's time to unwind before bed with some cosy, comforting Christie on this rainy night. I've watched the adaptations of this but I think it's the first time I'm reading the book! How soothing to think that there might be a book or two by Christie that I still haven't read.
This is one of those stories where I kinda knew all along, but it was still such a great book. And I do love Miss Marple.
#currentlyreading Bertrams Hotel. Seems a bit all over the place at the minute, hope it settles down, I've been a bit disappointed with the past couple of Agatha Christie books I've read and I'm really wanting to enjoy this one
Agatha Christie is my go-to #palatecleanser. Cozy mysteries and chick lit also work very well for me. #feistyfeb day 16 - catching up.
Another Dame Agatha that I've either never read or don't remember reading before. I vaguely remember seeing the tv episode based on this book, but there was a lot of "artistic" changes made to the plot. I hate it when they do that, her plots are perfectly fine as they are. Loved this Miss Marple book, nicely twisty story, though the end seemed a bit meh. #christiescrimeclub
On to No19 in the #dameagathaappreciation readathon. I've never read this one before either, so it'll be another surprise ending. I love that she's written so many books, that even when you're convinced you've read them all, you can still find one that's brand new to you. #christiescrimeclub 🔪🚬⚰️🔨🔫🛎
One distinct pleasure derived from Christie whodunits are the quaint colloquiums, such as "hairy at the heel" - although this particular book lacks that colorful phrase for a knavish scoundrel.
