1997. Scarclaw Fell. The body of teenager Tom Jeffries is found at an outward bound centre. Verdict? Misadventure. But not everyone is convinced. And the truth of what happened in the beautiful but eerie fell is locked in the memories of the tight-knit group of friends who embarked on that fateful trip, and the flimsy testimony of those living nearby. 2017. Enter elusive investigative journalist Scott King, whose podcast examinations of complicated cases have rivalled the success of Serial, with his concealed identity making him a cult internet figure. In a series of six interviews, King attempts to work out how the dynamics of a group of idle teenagers conspired with the sinister legends surrounding the fell to result in Jeffries mysterious death. And whos to blame ... As every interview unveils a new revelation, youll be forced to work out for yourself how Tom Jeffries died, and who is telling the truth. A chilling, unpredictable and startling thriller, Six Stories is also a classic murder mystery with a modern twist, and a devastating ending. FOR FANS OF SERIAL

I found this book going down a Litsy rabbit hole … I just wanted some unknown, not on my stack book, Get away from all the plans and hype. So, @BarbaraBB and earlier from @Reggie , I said I‘d give this one a go.
I couldn‘t put it down. It‘s a good story with good writing. I loved the setting , the woods , the mythical element and feeling of suspense all the way. I wasn‘t too moved by the twist or ending. But I really enjoyed the journey.

TrishB Sounds good 👍🏻 5mo

BarbaraBB Great review. I am looking forward to the sequel! 5mo
Cathythoughts @Tamra I don‘t listen to podcasts , so I just read it like a book 🙈.. although I might try a podcast now 👍🏻❤️ 5mo
Cathythoughts @LeahBergen Yes ! It makes me feel free and independent 😂 it does. ❤️ 5mo
Cathythoughts @BarbaraBB Yes I have the sequel lined up. That‘s Hydra .. am I right ?! 5mo
Cathythoughts @TrishB I got it for 99p too. Great bonus 😁 5mo
BarbaraBB I think so indeed. I haven‘t got a copy yet so am interested in what you‘ll think of it. @vivastory has read them all and has some favorites among them. 5mo
Tamra @Cathythoughts you might really like some of the true crime ones. 🥹 5mo

I‘m not entirely convinced this works as a novel. It would have been a fun listening experience as a fictional podcast however.

The twist took me out of the flow and I felt a bit deflated.

Reggie Awwwww The twist real pushed me over the edge into the awesomeness of this book. 7mo
Tamra @Reggie I think because I had strong suspicions and it was over the top. But, I give Matt high marks for creativity overall! I wonder if anyone has considered producing it as a podcast. Would be an entertaining genre for the format. I have enjoyed the true crime podcasts I‘ve listened to, including Serial. 7mo

Right up my alley, a book in the form of a true crime podcast, a cold case set in the woods and marshes of England. Throw in some folklore and a great twist and you have a great read. At least I think so. Thanks for the heads up @Reggie 🖤

Reggie I‘m so glad you liked it. That whole last section I was like whaaaaaaaaat?!!!! Lol 7mo
BarbaraBB @Reggie @vivastory That twist was unexpected!!. I‘ll be definitely reading the next one! 7mo
vivastory @BarbaraBB There are a few entries in this series that really creeped me out. I esp remember Changeling & the last 2 Deity & Demon being especially good 7mo
BarbaraBB @vivastory Thanks. Are they all stand alones or should I read Hydra first? (edited) 7mo
vivastory They're all stand alones. There is one plot point that happens in one book that is referenced in later books, but IMO it's not necessarily significant enough to have to read them in order. I read them in order & I did enjoy the others, but #1, 3, 5 & 6 were my personal favorites. 7mo
BarbaraBB @vivastory Thanks for taking the tuneup share all of this. I will remember when reading the series 7mo

I am reading The Good Samaritan and it is as engaging as I expected. Next will be Six Stories because of @Reggie ‘s review. And I have one more book to read from the #womensprize longlist. I haven‘t heard much about it but it does sound good.

In 1997, the body of teenager Tom Jeffries is discovered in the marshland, a year after he had disappeared. 20 years later, a Serial type of podcast revisits his unexplained death in 6 interviews with people close to situation. This was great. A little frustrating because people are always holding something back and you just want to scream-Just tell us!!! This has some nice folklore misdirection, I was starting to believe in Nana Wrack. lol,Pick!

BarbaraBB I had this one stacked since @vivastory talked about the series but now I couldn‘t wait any longer and bought a copy online 8mo
vivastory This book has one of my favorite twists 8mo
vivastory @BarbaraBB I think you'll like it. I somewhat recently finished the series & it's interesting to see how the evolution of podcasting & true crime reporting is reflected in the books themselves 8mo

CarolynM I often think that about murder mysteries, both books and TV or film. I wonder how true it is, do so many people really not tell everything to investigators? Why wouldn‘t you just spit everything out? 8mo
Reggie @BarbaraBB Scott and a found footage horror Reddit were the reasons I read this. 8mo
Reggie @vivastory It was effing BRIAN MINGS!!!! Who saw that coming?!!!! Lol 8mo

This is an excellent series told as literary podcasts. One issue, six points of view. The final outcome depends on which POV you think is the truth.
Six Stories - 20 year old disappearance of a teenager
Hydra - A family massacre
Changeling - Disappearance of a 7 year old boy from his father's car
Beast - Death of a vlogger in what's called “The Vampire Tower“
Deity - Death of a pop star by fire in his mansion
Demon - A possession

This was interesting. I liked how the feeling of the story changed with each person's perspective. The mystical/ supernatural elements felt distracting to me and I wish they'd either not been there or been much more of a thing. I definitely wanted to know what would happen and I liked this enough to download the next in the series so it's a pick for me.

The premise of this has really grabbed me and I‘ve really gotten sucked in. It‘s told in the format of a six episode crime podcast, revisiting a cold case of a boy who went missing in woodland, only for his body to turn up a year later. It evokes (and actually mentions a couple of times) Serial.
It‘s majorly creepy in some parts too!
I‘ve still got about 40% to go but I‘d be inclined to pick up some more of the series.

#booked2019 true crime podcasts are now such an ever present part of modern media and i have listened to serial, end of days, and am currently enjoying Michael connelly's murder book. So this was a unique take on crime fiction as a true crime podcast investigates the mystery around a missing teenage boy some 20 years earlier. Certainly captures that podcast voice well although i still can't decide if i like mixing my medias.

I've wanted to read this book for a while so as it is in the format of a true crime podcast such as serial i think it loosely falls within the social media focus. At the moment im not sure about the remainder of my spring categories but might have a wander to the library for a speculative search. Anyway with that true crime podcast voice in my head off we go.

I liked the idea and story structure. I thought the podcast aspect lent itself to novel form surpringly well. I didn't like the writing. I kept almost putting it down, but kept reading because I had read reviews that said it had a good twist at the end. It more or less kept me entertained.

The formatting made me really evaluate everything the characters said and did. Six Stories had the right amount of creepiness & I honestly didn‘t expect that twist! Overall I gave this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. I was fascinated by this book. The twist really threw me and I had to re-read a couple of chapters to see if I had missed something! That being said, in the end, I guessed the killer pretty early on. I wish that had been different, but I like where they went with the development of that character. I haven't read many thrillers recently but this one kept me hanging on to every word until the end.

🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 stars--listeners of Serial, here is a book for you. This is a book told in a series of fictional podcasts that investigate a cold case. Each chapter is a podcast that interviews one of the people involved in the unsolved murder. Great twists, good story--not great on character development as I didn't find myself connecting with or feeling empathy for the characters, but I don't think this is the point with this book. Highly recommend!

Finished this beauty yesterday! The story is told in the form of a podcast, utilizing 6 episodes to talk to 6 different people, with the end goal of trying to figure out what happened to a 15 year old boy who was found dead in the woods.
