Oh, ho, ho, ho, the red flags! 🚩🚩🚩 WHY did the current girlfriend of the 23 year old have to be in high school?! Why not at least 18, instead of 17? 😬 All his friends seem to think it's creepy but dude is totally unfazed. The platonic stage of the relationship being the reason I did not run screaming immediately. The manic pixie dream girl is totally cool with Scott basically harassing her at work because 'oops dream space'. 1/?

Robotswithpersonality Nothing about Scott's shitty behavior in going out with another girl while already having a girlfriend (certainly no mature polyamorous open relationship discussion is in evidence) just completely not addressed because: video game battle time?! And, yeah, honestly, 'defeat my evil exes before you can date me' aka battle other people who think they have a claim on me in order to have a claim on me doesn't have very feminist vibes either. 2/? 2y
Robotswithpersonality I'm just getting a very clear reading of icky male fantasy fulfillment. The fact that it was written nearly 20 years ago at least explains why it WAS popular. Think this is gonna be first and last volume for me. 2y

The weather has been crazy with snow/hail/cold temps and I hit a reading slump. My husband checked out all the Scott Pilgrim books on Hoopla so I am reading those. Having fun & loving the books even more than the movie. This is from book 2 I think.

JanuarieTimewalker13 Ginseng, please. At the top (head?) of the Phallic building. Hahahahahaha...is that a make believe skyline, or am I not well travelled? Sincerely, when is a female architect going to design a big boob of a building, bc we need some representation! 5y
LiterRohde @JanuarieTimewalker13 That‘s The Gherkin in London. The whole post is a nod across the pond. Grey. Totally a UK spelling. Tea. Earl Grey to be specific. Totally a UK drink. And then the building. Oh, and I thought the font had a UK vibe to it. And it all fits the color scheme of today‘s prompt. (edited) 5y
LiterRohde @JanuarieTimewalker13 As for phallic vs. mammary, if you build another building exactly like that one right next to it, you would have something resembling the cone bra ala Madonna. 5y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Hahahahaha!! True!! 5y

Scott Pilgrim has a totally awesome life—he‘s 23, unemployed, in a band, and is dating a high school girl. Then roller blading delivery girl Ramona Flowers skates into his life and he just has to date her. But not without battling her 7 evil exes first!

1. Probably Scott Pilgrim. That was a lot of fun.
2. Loki, because I enjoy a good villain turned antihero.
3. EC comics! In the early 90s I read piles of reissues of The Crypt Keeper and The Vault of Horror and others.

IamIamIam Scott Pilgrim is amazing!!!! I always forget it was a comic! 7y
GarthRanzz Love EC comics! I grew up reading stacks of my step-father‘s pre-code horror and loved Caine and Abel in DC‘s books. 7y

Courtesy of Amazon‘s Prime Reading feature, I decided to check this out! It‘s the first of seven arcs, a shonen-style narrative in which Scott, a Canadian slacker, battles 7 evil ex-boyfriends of the girl he is crushing on. The girl herself rollerblades through subspace as a Amazon.ca delivery girl. It‘s a bit odd and a lot of fun, though I feel like I‘m too old for it‘s target audience (Millennials and later.)

Decided on a pile of humor at the library today. I actually really liked the Scott Pilgrim movie but (as usual) heard the comics are better. Also, my recent run of comics have been kind of serious so I need a palate cleanser. #libraryhaul

TobeyTheScavengerMonk You chose well. All good, but Infinite Sadness kicks it up a notch into great. 7y

The plum tree in the front yard is blooming! Figured this was appropriately bookish because it was a wedding gift from my sophomore English teacher. True, she's been a friend of the family all my life, but I like to think it's because my essay about Julius Caesar was just that good.

Bonus trivia question: A No Prize to the first person who knows why this post is tagged to Scott Pilgrim.

O'Malley does so much with so little. A single pencil line can change an emotion and make a huge difference to the panel and overall story. A subtle statement or reaction in one panel literally changes the way you see the world and characters he created. On the one hand you have all of this, and on the other a fun and action packed story. Recommended!
