Finished this one today for #LMPBC. I didn‘t love it, but I am glad I read it. I am an optimistic, pretty happy person and I think the fact that these characters are so grim and negative made this a book that I kept putting down

I very much liked this book which I read for #LMPBC. It's a Cinderella story with a twist. The interesting thing about it is that it wasn't published until about 40 years after the author's death, and some wonder whether the author intended the story to end as it stands or whether he intended to write more. 4⭐️ I read The Chess Story last year, and was impressed by Zweig‘s diving in to human psychology. Well, he did it again with this novel. Christine was a poor postal worker, and she tasted the illusion of an upgraded lifestyle. She became a bitter person once she‘s back to poverty, and contemplated ways to get out of it. We see the poor and the rich among us; we, too, have our share of unhappiness... but is it necessary to be bitter all the time?

#santathing has arrived! Thanks so much, @RidgewayGirl for choosing them! Cold Comfort Farm is an all-time favorite (no worries though, because I'm always giving it away and it's time to revisit) so I'm pretty confident of your choices!

#CupidGoesPostal! This girl finished up and sent out her #ValentinesBookExchange this morning and there wasn't even that long of a line at the Post Office! I wish I would've thought quicker and told the employee that it was "yes, only books" for the media mail rate though! Now I'll know for next time! I'm so nervous! I hope my recipient likes what I picked out!

I liked the first part of this much more than the second. The ending seemed a bit sudden. It definitely felt unfinished-- maybe it was, since the book was published posthumously. Still, I really liked this book.

Accidentally coordinated my knitting and my reading 😊

Stopped by Book Culture today and bought another of Stefan Zweig's works.
