Count me in on this #slumpathon @Hestapleton
I'll keep my goals simple. I want to finish The Death Works Trilogy (I have about 100 pages left on book 2) and i want to read double digits in reading time.
Good luck to everyone joining in.

@Hestapleton is hosting #slumpathon this weekend, if anyone needs an (extra) excuse to focus on reading.

I‘m already planning to participate in a historical-romance readathon (#HRReadathon on Instagram), starting this weekend, so this is perfect timing for me—romance seems to be the only thing keeping me from a slump these days.

Hestapleton Welcome aboard! 4y

@Hestapleton is hosting a #slumpathon for anyone who needs to get out of their reading slump. I confess I may join in to this because I need a break from news and anger. I‘m new to readathons : does this mean I can order food and not cook or do dishes?
Thanks for putting this on my radar @TheAromaofBooks

Deblovestoread Sounds like the perfect way to do a readathon! 4y
Reviewsbylola I think I could use this. 😂😭 4y
Hestapleton Um it ABSOLUTELY means this! It also means snacks. And ignoring everyone who interrupts you. 4y

It‘s not a long weekend here in Canada but we did just get new Stay At Home orders in Ontario that are going to do dick-all in reducing the awful case numbers we‘re seeing. I don‘t have a reading slump so much as I have a life slump and a reading frenzy is exactly what I need so I‘m joining @Hestapleton in the #slumpathon!

Hestapleton I feel “life slump” very deeply. 4y
Curiouser_and_curiouser @Hestapleton I'm feeling it too. Quite debilitating tbh. 4y
Curiouser_and_curiouser I feel you @janeycanuck . Melbourne had pretty restricting lockdowns and the repercussions are still lingering. Just grab your books or shows or anything that makes you happy and ride the wave, it's not forever and it can show us parts of ourselves which we don't often see. Open our eyes to our real and true priorities. Enjoy some me time or a mental health break for now. Best of luck 😊 4y
See All 7 Comments
janeycanuck @Curiouser_and_curiouser Thank you... our orders are not what anyone else in the world would consider stay at home... We can have 500-600 people in a big box store at the same time. You can gather outdoors in groups of 5, despite it being winter and the virus not dispersing in the air as quickly as through summer - and masks are only recommended for those gatherings. My heart just aches for all the needless deaths and illness that is still coming 4y
janeycanuck @Curiouser_and_curiouser @Hestapleton the reality that 2021 is not going to be a miraculous fix for all that plagued us is finally settling in... My reading has definitely taken a hit so I‘m looking forward to a slumpathon to help me reset and recharge! 4y
MsMelissa Life slump is very appropriate for the times. As for the stay at home order, I have been staying home. For months!! The people that didn‘t follow the guidelines to begin with aren‘t going to stop now, although I do hope that making people work from home will help, since the majority of Ontario‘s cases are workplace-related. We‘ll see. 4y
janeycanuck @Book_Fiend_Melissa EXACTLY! We‘ve had 100+ cases in our 134,000 person city tied to just one plant. We don‘t leave other the house other than do to curbside pickup orders or to walk the dog. These orders just don‘t go far enough given the modelling released yesterday. But you‘re right - everyone who will follow them is already doing more than their part. 4y

In an effort to turn this reading slump into a reading frenzy and kick some books off my #bookspinbingo list, I present to you: #slumpathon.
It‘s a holiday weekend in the US (which was obviously meant for reading) and if you‘re not in the US or you let company doesn‘t take off for MLK day (🙋🏼‍♀️) come read with me anyway and inspire me with all of the books you‘re reading! 📚📚📚

I literally just changed the date on my #weeklyforecast picture from last week. I managed to listen to about half of Interview with the Vampire, but I haven‘t cracked a physical book. It makes me sad that I can‘t bring myself to open a book, but about all I have the bandwidth for is binging Turk Dizis. Plus, I can‘t workout to clear my head because my wrist still hurts too much. 😭 2020 sucks.

LeahBergen Here‘s hoping this week picks up for you! 😘 4y

Friends I am in SLUMP. Nothing seems to grab my attention. Going to try to go to the library and see if I can find something to catch my eye. Read anything lately that was unputdownable?

PandaPanda Try rereading an old favorite or series! That always works for me 4y
Ruthiella @PandaPanda Agree! I reread Agatha Christie in emergencies! 4y

megnews When I‘m in a slump, I usually read a novella, graphic novels, middle grade, or young adult. Something short that can get me moving again. Sometimes it takes several short books to get me out. Good luck! 4y
IndoorDame I usually read fluff when I‘m in a slump, but I just got out of one, finally, by picking up some of the classics that usually sit untouched on my shelf... 4y
Deblovestoread Reading the next book in a series your invested in can help. You already know the characters and it can feel like home. 4y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I usually do for YA if I'm in a slump, easy, predictable, feel good. 4y
CaliforniaCay Wow, no thank you by Samantha Irby and Toil and Trouble by Augustin Burroughs are 2 easy, funny books I just breezed through. Theres also this How To series by Thich Nhant Hanh I highly reccomend. The titles are how to eat, how to sit, how to love, etc. They're all very little, quick reads that talk about living mindfully. Very simple premises but they pulled me out of some slumps! 4y

Question... my litsy fam: I am in a reading slump. Just wondering if anyone had any recommendations? Something with steamy scenes yet still well written would be fun! Like “The Kiss Quotient” “The Crossfire series” or “Outlander” Unfortunately there is nothing quite like the outlander series 😆 but something more like that and not really a romance novel 🤔 Modern or Historical fiction doesn‘t matter. Any idea‘s?

wanderinglynn Have you read Alyssa Cole‘s Reluctant Royals series? I just finished the first one and enjoyed it. It‘s not deep reading, but fun rom-com type read. The first one is 5y
HOTPock3tt Thanks for the suggestion♥️!! @wanderinglynn I have read the whole series and the novellas. They are a lot of fun! The second one is even better! 😎 and the novella‘s are fun too (edited) 5y
wanderinglynn 👍🏻 Yes, I read the preview for book 2. I like Portia‘s character, so I look forward to learning more about her. 5y
See All 45 Comments
HOTPock3tt @Wandering I LOVED Portia!! To me, she was a lot more fun than Naledi (less uptight... if that‘s even a way to describe a book character lol 😂) 5y
hes7 If you like the time travel aspect of Outlander, there‘s always A Murder in Time or The Night Mark. 5y
HOTPock3tt I do love the time travel aspect! 😃♥️thanks for the suggestions!! @hes7 5y
TEArificbooks The Flat share, The Bookish Life of Nina Hill 5y
AllieLovesBooks I was gonna suggest Outlander before reading the entire post! 😂 “A knight in shining armor” is as close as I could get! (edited) 5y
sprainedbrain I‘m going through my goodreads so prepare to be spammed. 😂 I really liked this one, but the sexy times are glossed over so not sure if it‘s what you want now... 5y
sprainedbrain I know you said you started this one and didn‘t finish, but I liked it and it‘s got some 🔥🔥🔥 5y
sprainedbrain This one has time travel, Jane Austen, and a bit of romance, but it‘s not super sexy 5y
sprainedbrain This one is silly and sexy and an ode to Jamie Fraser fandom 5y
sprainedbrain Oh oh oh! Do you like Kate Morton?!? 😍 5y
HOTPock3tt @sprainedbrain I haven‘t read her books yet! Does she have sexy scenes? I own the lake house but haven‘t read it. I‘m literally looking at it on my bookshelf lol (edited) 5y
sprainedbrain @HOTPock3tt she‘s one of my favorites for lovely historical fiction, but I acknowledge some people think she‘s too wordy. 😂 They do have sexy times, but not super descriptive or long... I love them anyway. My favorite is The House at Riverton, but I seriously love them all. The newest one is also good, and maybe a little sexier? The audiobooks read by Caroline Lee are fantastic. ❤️ 5y
HOTPock3tt What‘s her newest one? The clockmakers daughter? I‘ve always been curious about her books since so many people love her that‘s why I bought the lake house and I‘ve heard ppl say they love the house at riverton too. Thanks SOOo much for all the suggestions!! ♥️I‘m going to check out her books!! @sprainedbrain (edited) 5y
HOTPock3tt @mdm139 the flatshare looks like soo much fun! I‘m definitely checking that one out. I read (and loved Nina hill) thanks for the suggestions! ♥️ 5y
sprainedbrain @HOTPock3tt yes, The Clockmaker‘s Daughter is the newest. I gave it 5 stars, too. It‘s not read by Caroline Lee on audio, but it‘s read by Joanne Froggatt and she‘s awesome too! 5y
HOTPock3tt @OrtizReads1 I can totally understand! outlander is such a one of a kind series 🤗thanks for the suggestions!♥️ (edited) 5y
HOTPock3tt @MellieAntoinette omg! red white and royal blue was one of my FAVE books last year!! It is AMAZING!! 😍♥️♥️♥️ thanks for posting! 🤗 5y
HOTPock3tt @sprainedbrain thanks so much jenni!! ♥️ I‘ll check it out!! Not sure how I dropped the ball on her... when I always meant to check out her books!! 5y
sprainedbrain I also want to say, there‘s really nothing quite like Outlander. ❤️ 5y
HOTPock3tt @sprainedbrain that finding Fraser one looks like fun too! I can‘t believe I‘ve never heard of it! 😍 5y
KarouBlue Ooooh one more. Sequel comes out in September 5y
HOTPock3tt @sprainedbrain And it‘s so true. Outlander is one of a kind! ♥️I can‘t wait till the new one comes out. Reading it will be like going back ‘home‘ 🤗 5y
HOTPock3tt @MellieAntoinette oh! I added that one a while ago on ebook and it returned before I got to read it! I‘ll check it out! Thank you! ☺️ 5y
sprainedbrain I second The Lost Queen! 5y
HOTPock3tt @sprainedbrain should I do audiobook for the lost queen or print? Maybe print. I‘m not familiar with that particular story so I may need to actually see the names lol (edited) 5y
sprainedbrain @HOTPock3tt I did audio and I highly recommend. The narrator‘s Scottish accent is nice. 😃 5y
HOTPock3tt Ohh THAT is sexy in and of itself! 😍lol @sprainedbrain 5y
sprainedbrain @HOTPock3tt it‘s a female narrator, but still! ❤️ 5y
HOTPock3tt @sprainedbrain well that‘s ok! Points for a cool accent then 😎 5y
Laughterhp Have you ever read Sarah MacLean? She‘s my favorite romance author. And writes steamy books. 5y
Laughterhp Oh sorry. Just saw that you didn‘t really want a romance novel. 5y
Laughterhp This book was really good. But I don‘t remember if there were steamy scenes. 5y
julesG Great suggestions! I'm going to spam you with a few more. Funny and steamy. 5y
julesG Julia Kent's books are funny and steamy. 5y
julesG Without having checked your list of books read 5y
HOTPock3tt @Laughterhp Oh one review said it has fairy stories! 😍I‘m sold!! Added it to the TBR. Thanks for the suggestion! 🤗♥️ 5y
HOTPock3tt Thanks soo much for all the suggestions!! @julesG ♥️🤗 I was on the fence about the honeymooners! I‘m going to have to check it out! And the others too! I remember it was you who introduced me to the Crossfire Series which was AMAZING!! 😃🎉 thanks again! ☺️ 5y
HOTPock3tt Thank you to everyone who took the time to make suggestions for me! I‘ve added a bunch of new stuff and already started on something new. I should‘ve posted here from the beginning! I‘m feeling like the slump it over already! ♥️🤗 5y

How do you know when you‘re in a book slump? I don‘t seem to want to read but can‘t tell if it‘s me or the book. I‘m about halfway through and really not feeling this one, but it‘s a book club pick so I feel obliged to finish. 😕

ImpliedNonsense Don‘t feel obligated to read a book that isn‘t doing it for you. There are too many books in the world that could fascinate you to waste your time reading something boring. 6y

But I have a tiny slump. Not because of the books I'm reading at the moment, it's because of the long tiresome days I've had and the long day I have ahead of me. I have two more hours before I need to get to the train station and I feel restless already.

Ugh... so I'm reading a book, that I actually like (though it's a bit slow so far) and can see it's going to unfold, yet I just can't get into it.

What's that about?? Am I in a slump?

I can't say I've started a book, have nothing to really complain about it, but not get into it... hmmm

LibrarianJen Oh no! I hate that. I think that's why I read a few different books at the same time so if I'm struggling to get into one I can usually get into the other and then go back and forth. 7y

I've been stuck in a reading slump the last few months. I thought that setting some reading goals for 2017 would help, but so far nothing has changed. With blizzard conditions and over 30cm of snow in the forecast for this weekend, I expect to be housebound. I'm going to push myself to do the #24in48 readathon - maybe it will be the kick in the butt I need! Who else has struggled with a reading slump?

Reecaspieces I hate those!! Mine usually never last more than a week or so. Pick up a guilty pleasure...mine is romantic suspense. Usually simple stories with action that keep you entertained 8y

I haven't been reading much this weekend which feels like a slump for me. I'm still reading #HP1 but I'm reading it slowly. Otherwise I am not sure what I want read.

moarbookspleaze I was supposed to get this in the mail today but there was a delay so it won't come until tomorrow 8y

I am so in a reading slump right now. I can't seem to get motivated to read. What is wrong with me?!
#readingslump

BookishMarginalia I know what's wrong with me: the election, the transition, and the abyss. (Plus it's been grey and rainy here for 3 days and we still have no a/c, no stove, no water heater, and no dryer...) 8y
LazyOwl @BookishMarginalia I can't use the election as an excuse (I'm in Australia). It feels like crazy pre-xmas stress (& we've still got a month to go). I hope you get your appliances sorted out 🙁 8y
BookishMarginalia @LazyOwlBookBlog Thanks! The appliances should work once the brigade from the power company actually comes to replace one of our power lines that burnt out Sunday. No word on when that will actually be, though (insert philosophical shrug here). 8y
gibblr November in general has been a slump month for me too! 8y
Reviewsbylola I really really hate slumps. Sometimes it's way worse if I fight it so I try to ride them out and not pressure myself. 8y

I'm slumping hard. It's been a while since I've been hit, but this sux. Finished disappointing book club book #2 for the month. Hoping that clearing the decks a little will bring in some good book mojo! All recommendations welcome!

RebeccaRenner Me, too! It's like everything I read doesn't have the right flavor. ☹️ 8y
GeekGrl82 I'm working in breaking out of one, too. I shelved 2 of the books I was slumped on forbanother day. Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead was amazing. Other favorites from this year was The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabriel Zevin and Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler. 8y
Chrys I've been in something of a slump as well. Completely relate to the "right flavor" concept. ? 8y

Tcip What are you looking for?? I have all kinds of recommendations!! 8y
Dorianna Do you read comics/graphic novels? I find they help me get out of a reading slump because they're short, fast reads. I guess they help me find my rhythm again. 8y
Lizpixie I have a pile of 10 books next to me right now with bookmarks in them because I've read a few chapters and then just, meh. It's like a stop/start slump, I'll find something and tear through it in a day or two then it takes a couple of days of nope, nope, then I'll tear through another one. Strangest slump I've ever been in! 8y
LeahBergen I purposely plowed through the few that I had on the go (cleaned that slate right up) and decided to opt for some "classic autumn" reads... I picked up the nice, short We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson. Have you read it? 8y
Theresa How about this? It seems like you've read so much that I'm going with a translation that maybe you haven't read yet. 😆 8y
Shemac77 What about a romance? Something brain candy like that keeps you engaged but doesn't make you think. I read.....I can't remember her name. I'll look it up.... 8y
Shemac77 Kristan Higgins! The books were well written, easy to read, satisfying. 8y
Well-ReadNeck Thanks everyone! @Dorianna good idea! A friend also suggested short stories (or just one) to jog things. Going with Eveningland and Paper Girls. @Theresa That sounds fabulous! Putting it on the top 'o the list! 8y
Well-ReadNeck Also, been a little disappointed that my latest scary books were creepy, but not the scare factor I'm looking for. Hoping to try the Nick Cutter in my pile to remedy that once I chase out the cobwebs! 8y
alibrarianslibrary Me too! I can't even get myself to pick up a book in a couple of months . Thankfully I am audiobooking so I at least feel a little accomplished this fall. 8y
Varshitha Me too.. its been two months and I must have only 2 books and a huge stack of books which I have read only a couple of pages.. I am waiting for the readathon this weekend.. it might help me finish a couple of books .. 8y
I-read-and-eat I currently reading almost non stop. I always get this when finals and papers come up, I want to do anything but work on them 😂 I loved HEX as a scary story. And I am currently reading The House at the Edge of the World and so far I love it, a literary family mystery. And anything by Orhan Pamuk gets my out of a reading slump. I recommend I am Red, a lovely piece of historical fiction. 8y
erzascarletbookgasm It really sucks. When I was in a reading slump, I read an old favourite. Or read something from my favourite author. Sometimes reading short stories or graphic novels, comics helps. Hope you get out of this soon. 8y
Mimi28 I'm in a reading slump too. That's a great idea about the graphic novels. It got me out of my slump before. Just been so stressed out and in my head. I think I need a girl's night out with actual humans instead cats and my mom and boyfriend, lol 8y
NeeSwee Are you reading BKV's PAPER GIRLS? If you like him get PRIVATE EYE too...it's amazing! 8y
quirkyreader Find some good short stories and go from there. 🐸🐙 8y
BookDedication Readers of Broken Wheel is a great book palate cleanser if you like a light-hearted read! 8y
CuriousG Naked At Lunch is the perfect book to get you out of a slump. Hilarious yet also intelligent look at nudism, which is something most people are fascinated with (and quick to condemn) 8y
LitHousewife Girl, I'm right there with you. I see the light at the end of the tunnel, but this has been going on since the beginning of September. We will persevere! 8y
ampersunder I tend to re-read a favourite when I hit a slump -- Barbara Pym, Dorothy L. Sayers, Rainbow Rowell, or Our Tragic Universe by Scarlett Thomas. Hope you get a break soon! 8y
DGRachel I'll echo @popscratch - I'll reread a book I loved or grab something from a favorite author that I haven't gotten to, yet. Good luck! 8y
Well-ReadNeck @popscratch @DGRachel That's a great idea! 8y
Faibka I recommend "The Thief" by Fuminori Nakamura. It's short enough to read in a day, fast paced and pace-turning but with a lot of psicological depth to it. If you do read it, please tag me, love to hear your thoughts on it. Good luck! ? 8y
