Bookwormjillk I am so confused as to how my very stodgy old English teacher taught this in high school. There is so much more to this story than my 16 year old self knew. We weren't even allowed to wear shorts in my school and my teacher was getting away with this. Haha go Mr. Baker! 1y
TheBookHippie @Bookwormjillk I‘ve had these same thoughts this morning -parochial school - although the English teacher did leave his wife and marry a former student of his 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫. 1y

Bookwormjillk @TheBookHippie I went to a public school in Massachusetts which is probably the same vibe as parochial school elsewhere 🤣 1y
Ruthiella Actually this would be a good book to teach in light of the #metoo movement. #Tesstoo 1y
Clare-Dragonfly How horrible! I thought he would be done with her as soon as he‘d gotten what he wanted, but he wants her to come back. Of course he doesn‘t offer in the slightest to marry her. Obviously never his intention. 😡😡😡 And I want to smack her mother! 1y
TheBookHippie @Clare-Dragonfly I agree about the slap !!!! Ughhhh and as for his intentions 🙄🤬 1y
currentlyreadinginCO @Bookwormjillk @TheBookHippie I remember my teacher having to explain to us in Florida pub school that Tess was assaulted, half of the people didn't understand this part 😵‍💫 1y
currentlyreadinginCO I am once again struck by how alone Tess is! She really has no support system from anywhere. 1y
BarkingMadRead @currentlyreadinginCO for sure, he‘s so vague about it and a kid wouldn‘t pick up on those clues! I really don‘t think she even knew she was assaulted, I don‘t think it occurred to her 1y
TheBookHippie @currentlyreadinginCO 😵‍💫😵‍💫 1y
currentlyreadinginCO Good point, maybe I should've been more concerned for the kids who did get it @BarkingMadRead 1y
Cuilin @Ruthiella I thought this too! 1y
dabbe A Fall from Innocence chapter if ever there was one. And it's heartwrenching to see how cowed she is by him now when she lets him kiss her good-bye on the cheeks. It's as if her soul has completely died. Yet there was still enough spark in Tess to confront her mother; the guilt is not hers alone to bear. #poortessindeed 😞 1y
KAO @currentlyreadinginCO I thoroughly agree about how sad it is that Tess has no support system, no matter where she turns! 1y
Clare-Dragonfly @BarkingMadRead Yes, she obviously thinks she‘s taken part in this “sin” even though she had no choice and would have stopped him if she could. And everyone else thinks the same way! It makes me so mad! 1y
Bluebird @Ruthiella totally agree! There‘s a whole new dimension to discuss given the #metoo movement. I also think students today would pick up on so much more than I did when I read this in school. #naive. It almost feels like a first read for me. And so much darker than I recall. Poor Tess is alone and adrift. No one to turn to, no one to give aid or advice. 1y
Bklover @Bluebird I agree- I think now would be a wonderful time for students to study this book. I also think they would “get” it far more than years ago. #metoo 1y

Chapter 29: y‘all. I can‘t even, with this chapter. I just can‘t. 🙄 #whyhim #dontsettle #ewwwwww #hesacreeper #whydoesntshecare #somanyquestions #pemberlittens

IndoorDame I was almost hoping this would go in a different direction, and then she relented and gave him the box anyway 😖😢 2y
BarkingMadRead @IndoorDame I know! When she caught him snooping I thought for sure she would keep it instead! 2y

Bklover I‘m getting an Uh-oh feeling about M Paul and Lucy. I think she‘s starting to Like Him! 2y
Bklover Oh, and I think we missed Chapter 28, and I just wanted to say that it drives me crazy that Lucy keeps letting that “little man” order her around. He told her where to sit and she did it! 🙄😠 2y
BarkingMadRead Omg @Bklover I did miss 28! My cold has my head so thick that I forgot to post! 2y
Bklover Don‘t worry about it!! I don‘t know how you do it every day. Hope you feel better! 🤧😷🤒🤕❤️❤️❤️ 2y
Ruthiella @Bklover That‘s my feeling too. 😱 They are both way too into this repeated performative display of dominance and submission. 2y
RebelReader These two are enough to make a preacher swear! M Paul is such a baby over a nose gay! And I feel like Lucy did it on purpose so she could “get” him later. @Bklover Or else she really does like him. Sometimes I just want to throw this book out the window! 😤 2y
suvata The nose gay … Grrrrrrr (pulling my hair out) 2y
Bookwormjillk This book is no Jane Eyre 🤣 2y
Clare-Dragonfly Why does she continue to be so nice to him?! At the very end she‘s like “he seemed friendly even though he didn‘t say anything” and like… of course he seems friendly then! He‘s not insulting you for several minutes straight! 2y
SarahBookInterrupted I had a bad feeling that M Paul liked her and was acting weirdly jealous and possessive and that unfortunately he might be the love interest. The Bronte sisters really have a twisted sense of what a good relationship is. They all seem to have these very toxic love affairs with emotionally abusive men. 2y

AllDebooks This still gives me goosebumps even though I know what's coming. Hate the way Rochester is trying to manipulate Jane into continuing with service before the truth comes out 2y
BarkingMadRead @AllDebooks I know! I‘ve known it was coming all along and I still got worked up! 2y

Bookwormjillk Well,it really hit the fan today! 2y
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk I‘m betting he‘s wishing he hadn‘t waited so long 🤣 2y
i.besteph First time reading and I was NOT expecting this. people do bring baggage into a relationship but not THIS MUCH! #runjanerun 💯💯💯 2y
BarkingMadRead @i.besteph this is some serious baggage! 2y
eeclayton Also, he lied to her face several times and made her believe she'd been hallucinating. Disgusting 🤢 2y
BarkingMadRead @eeclayton he sure did! I can‘t wait to see how she reacts once she‘s processed everything 2y
Clare-Dragonfly Jane, “not betrayed” is not the way to feel! 🤦🏻‍♀️ 2y
lauraisntwilder That scene in the attic was brutal. Rochester clearly has no compassion for Bertha. And then he makes everyone stare at Jane while he compares them. I really don't like him. 2y
Erinsuereads I am really enjoying how many of you are having your childhood notions of Rochester crushed 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣☠️☠️☠️☠️ 2y

Pickpick

My latest selection from #hubbys bookshelf. I really loved this one, it reminded me of my favorite #serenity. These first two volumes left me with so many unanswered questions...it's frustrating as hell and I love it, I can't wait to read more and eventually have those questions answered #copperhead #ronriley #imagecomics #readeverything #bookworm #somanyquestions #spacecowboys

Usually when I talk to the hubby about the books I am reading he really isn't that interested. Apparently this book about the lead guitarist from Korn catches his interest though 😂 I finally just told him it was free on Amazon Prime and he should just download it and read it himself. #somanyquestions

Gunslinger | Stephen King

Noticing some discrepancies between the audiobook and this older version of The Gunslinger as I'm bouncing between both. Turns out The Gunslinger had been revised by Stephen King. Has anyone read both versions? Does it make a huge difference or was it just for consistency's sake? This is the first time I have seen this. Are there other popular series with revisions like this?
#SoManyQuestions

CocoReads What? Why? When did he revise? I read the original back in the day and recently picked up a new to me copy for a re-read but now I'm wondering if it's the revised or the original.... 8y
BooksMcD @CocoReads Check the publishing date in the front of your book. Apparently Stephen King wrote it in 1982 and then revised it in 2003. I was reading a version published in 1988 but the audiobook I was listening to was released in 2016. Bouncing between both it was easy to notice differences as whole sentences were missing or paragraphs were rearranged! 8y
CocoReads I'll check when I get home. I'm guessing it's newer than the 80s version though. 8y
