BookwormjillkI am so confused as to how my very stodgy old English teacher taught this in high school. There is so much more to this story than my 16 year old self knew. We weren't even allowed to wear shorts in my school and my teacher was getting away with this. Haha go Mr. Baker!1y

dabbeA Fall from Innocence chapter if ever there was one. And it's heartwrenching to see how cowed she is by him now when she lets him kiss her good-bye on the cheeks. It's as if her soul has completely died. Yet there was still enough spark in Tess to confront her mother; the guilt is not hers alone to bear. #poortessindeed 😞1y

I also think students today would pick up on so much more than I did when I read this in school. #naive. It almost feels like a first read for me. And so much darker than I recall. Poor Tess is alone and adrift. No one to turn to, no one to give aid or advice.1y
