The Hunger Games: Illustrated Edition
The Hunger Games: Illustrated Edition | Suzanne Collins
THE HUNGER GAMES as you've never seen it before -- in a remarkable illustrated edition. Even at the age of sixteen, Katniss Everdeen knows it takes hard work, keen observation, and inner fortitude to survive in the world. Her home, District 12, is under the merciless rule of the Capitol, continually forced to pay after losing a long-ago civil war in the nation of Panem. One of the ways the Capitol keeps control is its annual Hunger Games, a televised fight to the death featuring two young tributes from each of Panem's twelve districts. This gruesome battle is meant to send home a chilling message: Rebellion will always be punished. When Katniss finds herself within the Hunger Games arena, she knows the odds aren't in her favor. Any wrong move will end her life -- and even the right moves come with a cost. But if she can survive, there is a chance the districts may survive as well... The Hunger Games has enthralled millions of readers in its examination of the price of war, human nature, and the powerful force of both love and resistance. Now it appears for the first time in a deluxe illustrated edition, with spellbinding art from internationally acclaimed artist Nico Delort.

This book has been my favorite for years and it‘s one that I always come back to, but it was such a new experience having the artwork to go with the story. It made everything that much more heart wrenching and touching and just brought the story one step further 10 out of 10 would recommend. 😄

The hunger games is an amazing story set in a dystopian future. It starts off with our main characters (katnise Everdeen) sister being chosen for the Hunger Games. The hunger games consists of 1 male and 1 female from each district being chosen at random to fight in an arena until one remains on top. Katnise must survivor and fight her way through everyone else competing to live.

If you like books that talk about dystopia future you‘d love this

Carter.reynolds The point of view is first person from katnise herself. We are told her feeling and thought when they are happening 2y

I am reading these for the first time. I never knew much of the story or ever saw any of the movies. I guess I assumed the basic storyline. But reading this was so good. I sprinted through it in under 24 hours as I just had to keep reading. I don‘t know anything about what‘s to come but I will keep reading.

paulfrankspencer The books definitely don't get better, though the second is alright. 3y

I've read this book three different times, and each time, I appreciated it differently.

This last time around, I borrowed the special edition read by Tatiana Maslany, and I was utterly sucked back into district 12, among the dirt and turmoil as I had to listen to Maslany narrate this in Katniss' POV and she sounds exactly as I imagined Katniss would be.

Mehso-so

So this has sparked a lot of mixed feelings for me. It hovers between pick and so-so and finally settled for the latter. The concept and the imagination are really good but I feel it lacks the implementation. The main character is flawed which is nice, it makes them human to me rather just book heroes who are all mighty and strong. Coming to the harsh regime and the capitol I don't get how can they be so advanced with flying cameras, (continued⤵️)

ishan0986 genetic mutations, all healing medicines and yet on the other hand be so primitive as to let humans handle their precious resources like coal, agricultural goods and so on. Such regimes would not want to loose the precious resources on the account of human error. The parachutes are either invisible to other players or they are very small to be seen from afar. Could only make guesses at this point 3y
ishan0986 Haymitch is pushing for
the couples angle from the
beginning and seems to
know it would work, maybe
he knows something we don't know. The people are deliberately kept hungry and low on food rations so that their minds are always occupied with procuring food rather than revolting. Katniss is liked by all in the district the reason for which escapes me. Maybe due to her father. A little more facts about him would have been really nice.
3y
Scochrane26 I don‘t think Katniss is liked by everyone. Her dad was liked, I think. Her mom & sister are well-liked & respected because they heal people. 3y

100 pages in, the story is all around the place right now. I like katniss but a few of her points are straight up weird for me. Maybe it will change with time.
Also I completed my 1000/1000 pages for #NutsInMay Now would pushing for 1500.

Reggie Oof. When I finished the 3rd and final books I was sad for days. FOR DAYS! Lol, hope you like it. 3y
ishan0986 @Reggie oh. This happens to me too. Let's hope I don't get that sad 😅 3y
Scochrane26 @ishan0986 You will get sad. It‘s worth it though. I wasn‘t sad for days, but there‘s been some events that have stayed with me. Katniss is a flawed character, just stick with her. (edited) 3y

Yes, Katniss! She is so powerful and strong. She did whine a bit too much about the whole love affair, but that could just be her age. I loved Rue, I loved Cinna, I loved the arena with all the plottwists happening everyday. It had been years since I read this serie, and it was as good as I remember!

This SF and New York Times Bestseller book by Suzanne Collins is an absolute page-turner! The book is so captivating and action-packed, it was quite difficult to put down. Having students do an IR for this book would be best, due to the fact this book may not interest everyone with heavier topics. https://www.rif.org/literacy-central/book/hunger-games #ucflae3414sp21

Adodd1 The link provided give some great resources for teachers to use to introduce the book and author, as well as activities for when students are finished reading to check for comprehension. The UDL strategy best fit would be 7.1 with the book trailer provided in the link. The EL strategy best fit would be 42 to help stay on track in the book. 4y

This SF, LC multi award winning and NY Times Best seller is a great series to use with small groups in your classroom, and is a favorite among students. This dystopian novel highlights the struggles of poverty and perseverance. Katniss Everdeen volunteers to fight other children to the death in order to save her sister from her potential demise. In the end, Katniss discovers the major hardships of her world, and what needs to be done to fix it.

Karissacurrier This book/series would work best in a LC, as it is a series that would work best with small group discussions and activities. Information from Edutopia provides great methods for conducting LCs with your students. EL strategies 36 and 44 will help students engage in book discussions through HOT questions. UDL principle 8.3 will help to foster student collaboration within the LC, and encourage all students to participate within the group. 4y

Nothing better than a dystopian novel that makes your own dystopian life less disturbing. If you've missed the whole Hunger Games hype this is a great read. I would definitely recommend reading the series before watching the movies, so you can enjoy the same rage I had when everything I imagined got smashed to pieces. You'd think i'd have learned by now that the book is always better.
