pickSo much to discuss in this book - a great book club selection. Excellent sense of time and place - feels very realistic, if uncomfortable. Not necessarily an easy read, as there are several difficult, and even heartbreaking, things that occur. But ultimately, I think, a hopeful book.

The atmosphere of this book was done exceptionally well, you could feel the cold, remote emptyness. But I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would.
It started off very slow, and the dynamica of this supposed friend group just felt wrong.
The characters are mostly horrible people; I actually felt like killing some of them just to not have to listen to their POV anymore.
And in the end I felt cheated by the unreliable narrators.

pickI really enjoyed this thought-provoking story about a strong woman fighting to live her best life, despite many familial pressures and expectations. I didn‘t always agree with some of the choices she made, but I respected her for making them. The setting in modern day Ghana was fascinating, as it is a culture I know nothing about. A very worthwhile read!

pickIf you know anything about Manson then you know everything there is to know about this book. I didn't really learn much but I enjoyed the listen. I highly recommend the audio here. There are some recordings of one of the interviews at the end you don't want to miss. Don't listen on high speed though. The man spoke like a speed addicted squirrel and it's just gibberish on doublespeed 🤣🤣
