I think I loved the characters more than the story and would read more of the series to get to know them. Because the story of the really bad Gus is meant to go on, I felt a little as though I was left hanging at the end. Th#e story kept moving, though at a pretty good pace. Now in their 30s members of the local chess club return to town upon their buddies death. Their goal…clean up the town.

Aphra + a group of interesting characters go back to her destroyed home, Innsmouth, & the nearby Miskatonic Uni. She's there to help an FBI agent who suspects a Russian spy has stolen some secret magic from the Uni. Set in 1928, there's lots of talk about race, gender, identity. Very slow book, lots of researching in dank library scenes, but it's so interesting! It puts a cool twist on Lovecraft that probably has him rolling in his grave 😂

4⭐️ I liked it. I really liked the story and how it was told, the characters not so much, especially the parents. It was an incredibly amazing character study and thought the story was well-written and very engrossing. I think what I liked about the book was that the book delved beneath the surface of what appears to be a “perfect family”. #bookspin #ownvoices #2020 #bookstagram #bookreview #fiction

5⭐️

Loved the story of both Lila & Dare (separate & together). A bit gritty & dirty & I loved it! More reading in this series will💯happen later on. Has anyone read anything else from this author?
