I love the Russian folktale of The Snegurochka, and that‘s what this book is about. Illustrated by the beloved Tomie dePaola, this version has a different ending. If you know anything about pagan lore and teaching, you‘ll see the similarities here to such figures as the Green Man, Oak King, Holly King, Callieach, and more. This is one of my favorite folktales and I plan on getting the Russian versions as well for their art and linguistics.

Not sure why I feel compelled to follow up on my last post about shoveling with this information, but please humor me. 🥴🤪. A big old 12-18” of snow and high winds for two days.

ChaoticMissAdventures I live in a town where snow in the forecast shuts everything down, I can't imagine this 😂. We had 2 days of snow this week and I haven't left my house. You snow people are a different breed! Hope you stay warm and snug. 1mo

Suet624 @ChaoticMissAdventures I remember when I lived in Tennessee and once there was a thin layer of ice on the roads that stopped everyone for several days. So I get it. I pay extra for studded tires now and shovel throughout a snowstorm so I don't have to get stuck with shoveling all 12 inches in one go. :). Where do you live? 1mo

ChaoticMissAdventures @Suet624 I live in Portland Oregon, and we get snow every year usually once and no one is prepared! I have lived in snowier places but people here are super dangerous driving, there was a 100 cat pile up on Thursday, so I just don't leave the house (super lucky I can work from home) Ice is the real danger! 1mo

marleed Stay warm and safe. We are due to get significant snow this Tuesday and Wednesday. I‘m hoping I get a chance to shovel in doses but unlikely as I watch my 2-yo grandson on weekdays. But I‘m hopeful this will be our last hurrah for significant snow this season 🤞 1mo

Jeg Sue I have some vague memories of high snow when we lived in North Swanzey near Keene NH. Not being able to go to school. We caught a bus which took us to a new school Mt Caesar . 1mo

Over 5,000 lbs. of snow had to be pulled off the upper roof to the porch roof and then 3 of us shoveled the porch roof to the ground. That pile on the ground is up to my nose. And a nor‘easter will start tomorrow. I feel like I‘ve been shoveling for weeks. This weekend it will be just me, the books and watching the snow fall.

Suet624 @Jas16 It‘s so beautiful when it comes down but as it adds up, I can be super heavy to shovel. This year was the first year we‘ve had to rake the upper roof. Usually it just slides right off and I just shoveled the flat roof. I kept being afraid that the roof would collapse on me. 1mo

Suet624 @LeahBergen Tomorrow is when our big storm starts, so I wanted to be sure to get that snow off the roof. Another 10 inches wasn‘t going to be a good thing. 😳 1mo

Suet624 @tpixie thank you! I‘ve noticed that on our town‘s forum lots of people are asking for help raking their roofs. Something about the weather this winter has made the snow stick to metal roofs, which is really uncommon. I‘ve been here 11 years and I have never had to do it before. (edited) 1mo

kspenmoll Here I was worried all January about no snow! We have some, but nothing in comparison- only 6 is expected tomorrow but also lots of ice/sleet which makes for power outages & falling tree limbs. Snow up to your nose!!!!! Glad your roof is safe & you are bundled up.💕💕💕 1mo

Suet624 @DogMomIrene Generally speaking, the metal roof has been fine. Someone on our local forum said he'd had a metal roof for 43 years and his was completely covered too. It was the first time he had experienced it in all that time. 1mo

majkia I live in the Florida panhandle near Destin. We got 4 or 5 inches. I'd have loved it a lot more if I hadn't had to be out in it because of a procedure scheduled at the hspital. They did do their best to get us out of there early so the snow had only just started. 2mo
