This was a cute book with a little bit more action than the first. Really enjoyed reading these :)
I am currently in Seoul, so here is a picture from the older #StarfieldLibrary in Gangnam.
Hoping to get to the new one next week ☺️

Needed something light after Gideon the Ninth. Loved the first one so jumping back into Viv‘s world.
Trying to find a space for relaxation in the midst of all the chaos I'm feeling. 🤍
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
Love this series! It‘s so cute and heartwarming. A great prequel, even if I knew exactly what was going to happen.
Before Legends & Lattes, Viv the orc is flighting with the Ravens against a fearsome necromancer and is injured in the battle. This is the story of her convalescence and maybe of a few fights along the way.
Worth a read if you like cosy fantasy with lgbtqia themes.

Relatable! Book for the #HauntedShelf word search

I stayed up quite late last night reading this 😅
I loved this, I actually preferred this to Legends & Lattes. Restoring a failing bookshop, creating a sense of community and fighting a necromancer are just more my thing.
This had way more plot. The book recommendations given to Viv matched what was going on in the story which I loved.

Such a cozy read with a little drama , audio is the best can‘t wait until the next one

When all the characters are book lovers, you can only relate :)
2✨I got about 60% through this and I was just bored. I do want to say I like how it is written, and calm it made me feel when they discussed the store and how to make it a better shop. As well as talking about books that was just really relaxing. There was some adventure too, but I DNFd to find something else I personally could engage more in. Again not a bad book just didn‘t catch my interest anymore.
You know the author has amazing descriptions....when they make you want to read the books being described IN THE BOOK!!!
“...despite the uncomfortable chair and the ache in her leg and the backwater in which she'd been abandoned, she was absorbed. She was transported. She was elsewhere.“
Seriously....Me whenever I read. It takes all of the pain and everything else away for a while!
😉I just want one of these little guys and I think my life could be more complete 😅
Ahhh I loved this!!! Apparently cozy high fantasy is a balm for my soul that I didn‘t even know I needed 🤣. Viv is such a great character and I loved the banter she developed with all the new characters. There‘s also some action and adventure and of course…books!! It‘s even better that the author narrates the audiobook, and he does a fantastic job! Highly recommend! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Delightful though a little slow. I kept putting this one down and had to force myself to pick it back up. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read it closer to when I read the first one. #Doublespin #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks
While this is a prequel to “Legends & Lattes“, it should be read second. Much to my surprise I have thoroughly enjoyed both of these cozy, lighter fantasy books complete with all sorts of fantastical creatures. I find the characters to be well developed and fun. The book is humorous, and leaves us mere mortals with life lessons. As a former bookseller I loved the bookshop setting. I look forward to more adventures with Viv and her friends. 4.5/5
The prequel to Legends & Lattes, this gave us a look into the shaping of Viv. She‘s forced to recover and slow down in a small town. The people she meets and her experiences lead her to where we find her in L&L.
Hi Litsy. I have horribly fallen out of posting this year, (not to mention actually finishing books 🙄), but I miss you guys, and am attempting to come back! I‘ve also just realised that tomorrow‘s a Bank Holiday, so I get a whole weekend (🎉🎉and probably 😴!)
So, Bookshops. It has taken me MONTHS to read this. I love the characters, I love the world, I love the setting (sleepy seaside town with a cafe and a bookshop that needs Serious Work 🤔.
I‘ve read Legends & Lattes and saw this book and picked it up. Read it in just a few hours, great read. If you liked the first book this is a definite read. I really enjoyed reading it and getting to know Viv and her adventures a little more …
I almost hate to do it, but I‘m bailing on my #bookspin for this month. I loved Legends & Lattes, but I am not enjoying this prequel at all. I don‘t know if it‘s the pacing or something else, but it doesn‘t seem to have the same heart as the first book. It‘s not that I‘m bored so much as I just don‘t care about the characters. Even Viv feels less Viv-like.
This is prequel to Legends & Lattes and it was just as wonderful. It has action, mystery, cozy vibes and good humor. Of course I loved the bookshop within and all that brought to it as well. This was such a well done story. Even though it comes before the 1st book I recommend reading them in the published order to get the full effect of the ending. (Which ties into L&L.) I look forward to any other books this author may put out.
Ok, I‘m going to have the #unpopular opinion here, but I thought this story was way too slow. I liked the characters, the beachy small town setting, even the premise. But it was just a little *too* cozy for me, and I liked the first book much better.
What an entertaining, lively, cozy, sweet, fun read! I had not heard of “cozy fantasy” before listening to the Reading Glasses podcast, where host Mallory has talked about her love of the book Legends & Lattes often. This is the prequel and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I loved the quirky characters and even got choked up a little at the end. I‘m listening to Legends & Lattes next, but suggest starting with that one as it was pub‘d first. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
I wasn‘t sure I was in the right mood for BOOKSHOPS & BONEDUST, but it quickly won me over with its community feel and love for the power of story. I‘m now a hundred pages deep.
It also cried out for a good beer, so I paired it with an Absent Landlord Kolsch Ale from Cowbell Brewing Co out of Blyth, ON. I had one a couple weeks back and liked it so much I bought another can right away. It was a great fit with this delightful read.
This is a very enjoyable read, with actual character development and a plot that makes sense.
Viv is stuck in a small town recovering and learns to love reading through the efforts of the local bookstore owner. Romance (no spice), magic, books and a love for pastry all make Viv‘s life more complicated while she learns to be where she is and not mourn a life she doesn‘t want yet.
5/5 stars excellent. Read for a fantasy that focuses on emotions
Another great book in the Legends and Lattes series. I really hope they continue on with Viv's adventures. Taking place before the events in the first book, Viv is just as loveable as before. She helps save a bookshop and battles a necromancer. The supporting characters are great, and I hope they make an appearance in future books. I love this cozy fantasy series.
Started this one on audio this morning. Another podcast recommendation, sort of. The sequel to this book, Legends and Lattes, was recommended on one of my favorite bookish podcasts “Reading Glasses.” If I recall, they said you didn‘t have to read this first, but I‘m weird about reading series books in order, even if they can be standalone. 🤷♀️❤️📚🎧
You know what is nice about traveling for work with another reader! We are both tucked into bed and enjoying our books. No pressure to go out and entertain ourselves. All we need is some good take out, a comfy beds and our books!
@ShelleyBooksie is a great travel companion
Four of the latest books I finished this week: (27 for the year)
Miss Julia #15 (4 stars. Better than the last 2).
A ghostly gift (short story) 4 stars)
A skeleton in the closet 4 stars
Bookshops and bonedust 4 🌟
Here's my favorite quote from my #AuldLangSpine reads last month. I have always loved the idea that difficult experiences are just stops on the journey to something good. And the way it's so simply put here is lovely 💕
@sebrittainclark I'm excited to get to more of your list. Three holds just came in at the library finally!
@monalyisha thanks for all you do with this event each year! You're a star! ✨
4⭐️ I really quite enjoyed it. I haven‘t read Legends and Lattes, but I am definitely looking forward to reading it soon. I want to thank Kaytee of Currently Reading for recommending the series. #2024 #fiction #lgbtq #fantasy #ebook #audiobook

This was a DELIGHT. I didn‘t think I could like it as much as legends and lattes but I think I liked it more. Also it was great timing, after a bunch of heavier stuff and during a heavy time in the world, this felt so soothing. Fantastic on audio too. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
When Viv is injured, her crew leaves her in the coastal town of Murk to recover while they continue the hunt for an evil necromancer. Bored and needing to stretch her legs, Viv wanders into a failing bookstore, only to discover a love of reading and a new group of friends.
Between helping at the bookstore and romancing a baker, Viv finds herself on the bad end of evil.
I finished this last week, alas I'm behind on reviews. I really enjoyed it!! Not quite as much as L&L but mostly because Viv was pretty annoying at the beginning and really needed that character growth 😅 But it was perfect as a prequel to see her journey! I really loved Fern and Satchel. Baldree is very good at writing a great cast of characters. And I loved the message that even short acquaintances can leave a lasting impression on you 🥰
This was such a lovely read! An ode to books and words, and finding yourself in the right pages. At the same time, a study of friendships and love, and being in the right place at the right time, even if it‘s a short time. Viv is charming and bold and a little clumsy, and totally endearing. There‘s just enough mystery to keep the story going, and a wistful sort of atmosphere that‘s hugely appealing. Loved it.
This was very entertaining, I liked this even more than Legends & Lattes.
Definitely not my normal fare, but I‘m glad I am venturing out of my comfort zone. Can‘t wait for Legends & Lattes.
I put a hold on Legends & Lattes and Remarkably Bright creatures at the library. Unfortunately L&L is out of circulation for a few weeks but they had Bookshops and Bonedust. I don‘t really read fantasy but this is fun.
1. Nope! But it's not infrequent that I enjoy a glass of red wine, or a cup of coffee or tea with a book.
2. The tagged. :-)

Care to play @tiedyedude?
Oooo my library hold came in early, can't wait to start this one! 😄

Basically read this one all day on New Year‘s Day and finished it yesterday. I might have liked this one more than the first. Not sure if that‘s a controversial opinion or not. I loved all the characters, the little town, the books and adventure.
I hope the author plans on writing more! Thanks to @wanderinglynn and #AuldLangSpine for putting on the top of my TBR for the year!
Well it turns out I read more in December than I realized. Helped by long audio-hours at work and a 17 hour audio-drive, I guess.
Quite a few of these are continuations of series by authors I like. Bookshops & Bonedust was my favorite, but I loved System Collapse too.
