Bailedbailed

It's a bail but I'm not mad at it. I think it is a very well executed cross between Bridget Jones Diary and Dexter. If you are in the mood for graphically violent female rage then I would defo try it. Lots of respect for Skuse as a writer.

But you know I recently unsubbed from Netflix because I felt it was funnelling serial killer content into my head. And this is a bit murderporny, just enough to cross a personal line.

Bailedbailed

Bailed at 50 pages. Super creepy striking idea but the writing style is not for me and a quick look at reviews for the rest of the trilogy looks like the resolution is patchy.

Bail at 30%
I really liked this author‘s Undead & Unwed series so I was excited to read this but there‘s too much going on. Were-bear detective/social workers trying to stop trafficking of were-kids. The FMC‘s dialogue & internal narration was chaotic, & very bubbly for the surrounding plot. The love interests have made no moves towards eachother yet, & I don‘t care if they do which doesn‘t bode well for the rest of the book. #bye

Bailedbailed

This is my second attempt at Jhumpa Lahiri and again a DNF. Her prose is fluid and on point, details well observed. Authentic characters & much to read between the lines. But the tone is too cool and remote for me (no places or characters are named). So I was not invested even though I love Rome and this should be the perfect setting to immerse myself in. An outsider‘s perspective & bleak re Italy not welcoming immigrants.

BarbaraBB I have a similar issue with all other books I read by Lahiri but I loved this one! 2w
Abailliekaras @BarbaraBB everyone I know has loved it, I‘m definitely in the minority! 1d
Abailliekaras @dabbe yes I have to move on! 1d

Bailedbailed

#RandomClassics I listened to more than half of this, which is the longest I‘ve ever given a book before bailing. At first I thought it was humorous. But then I realized there wasn‘t much difference between Richelieu, Milady, and the rest of the “villains” and D‘Artagnon, the three and all of the Musketeers. D‘Artagnon and his compatriots didn‘t pay for rent, meals, or inns. They seduced women by fair play or by foul, whether the women (cont)⬇️

CatLass007 were married or below them in their status. There is nothing heroic or noble about these characters. And I didn‘t want to hear anymore about them. Buh-bye. 2w
CatLass007 @dabbe I can always count on your full support and encouragement when I bail. Thank you so much!! #HailTheBail 2w
TheAromaofBooks Sometimes a book just isn't a match!! Thanks for reading with me - do you want to be off the tag list for any other posts I make about this specific book? 2w
CatLass007 @TheAromaofBooks no, you can leave me on the tag list. I‘d be interested in hearing what others think of the book. 2w

Bailedbailed

I gave this one 50 pages and can‘t convince myself to pick it back up so it‘s a bail for me. I wanted to and should have liked it, based on the summary. But I just couldn‘t do the writing style 😢

I didn't even make it through the prologue.

Sace I‘m sorry you had a bad experience, but this was at the top of my feed and it made me laugh. Not even through the prologue! 🤣 2w
rwmg I got about 1/3 of the way through before I realised I just did not care about any of the people or the horrible interdimensional whatsits. 2w

Bailedbailed

Sadly this book started out strong with the creepy cop and creepy house in the middle of nowhere but then it just went downhill. Another couple along with some other characters gets introduced and the flow of the writing gets confusing. I didn‘t know what or who was going on in parts. I took this book with me on a two week vacation and only picked it up twice. A sign to #hailtothebail

Bailedbailed

They‘re certainly pushing this novel of a 1920s divorcee. It was in the thriller section in WH Smiths. However, the blurb made it sound like something else. In both seller and buyer, confusion reigns but I thought maybe it was an edgy, impossible to categorise, rediscovered curio plus I have a soft spot for women behaving badly stories so I took a punt. Sadly I can‘t get past the first 30 pages. It‘s American Psycho without the murders or irony
