Wowowowow WOW. I started this YESTERDAY and wasn‘t able to put it down until today. A gripping tale of Leonard Cohen. His time in Israel, the accepting of his role in life. The song “Lover, Lover, Lover”. All of it just so incredible and compelling. 8/10.

This book is about learning how to balance the two sides we all have in us. It‘s a difficult task and Mia handles it well. The story was a bit rushed and I almost feel like it would benefit from being a show or a broadcast. There just felt like a lot missing 6/10

Amazing book. Very personable and personal, while still relating to an arc of issues. 10/10 one of my highest ratings yet.

SqueakyChu I would really like to read this book. 2mo
Estherhasredhair @SqueakyChu i am about half way done and it is so good! 2mo
SqueakyChu Although I hate the title (!), I like the Israeli author, and I have heard good things about this book. 2mo
Estherhasredhair @SqueakyChu from what i recall reading elsewhere, the author regrets the title of the book as well. However, it is so descriptive to the thesis of the essays presented that I cannot imagine another title for the book. But she is a very concise author with a lot to say. She comes off as well educated in her subject matter and keeps the audience entertained. 2mo
SqueakyChu @Estherhasredhair Looking forward to reading it. Thanks for the info. 👍 2mo

This actually breaks my heart to put it on the “bail” list. But that is what I am doing due to structural issues with the binding. It is a fantastic anthology with some incredible works in it and it belongs on the shelf of every science fiction lover. I just can‘t finish it in good faith knowing that I am making a book that is falling apart in worse condition.

So adorable! Starts off slow, but once it picked up, you cannot put it down. A lot of healthy relationships represented while still portraying imperfect, realistic characters. Did not expect to cry at the end. 4/5 stars.

What was promised: a look at modern trans life through the lens of talmudic commentary of eunuchs.
What I got: a 200 page commentary on leverite marriages and the most substantial parts being in the last 5 pages.
Also written in a very dry and academic style that is not for me.
3 out of 5 stars

Anna40 What a shame! This sounded great. 1mo

So cute! Not my normal thing, but having a book that was pure fluff really is what my mind needed. I work at a coffee shop, so it was really lovely seeing fictional characters love this line of work.

Yeah. Really good book. Really well researched book too. It took me a minute to get into the flow, but it really is a series of short stories that happen to take place in the same location, bound together by a “modern” (by now, historical in its own right, having been written in the 60‘s) storyline. audiobook was ultimately the right choice for me on this one. That does not happen often.

First impressions? Wow i sounded just like this pre 10/7/2023. I fear that the language used will date this book eventually, but the author is correct that this kind of book has been a long time coming.

Fantastic book. This should be required reading for every Jewish person and honestly? Most people should at least know about this book. That said, there is SO MUCH about this book I disagree with. The author, however, I suspect will be ok with that.

It ws hard to get into for me, but once i got in it was a RIDE and a fun one at that. But I did have to skip the chapter about the cats because of some upsetting things that happen there. Otherwise, it‘s getting me excited to read the other books and watch the show.

Yeah. The author is right. The work of Jews in the last 10 years or so has been the work of dismantling the tools of fighting back antisemitism. The last year has been exhausting because the community lacks the tools to handle these hard discussions.

I don‘t agree with the rest of the paragraph, but him talking about a women‘s studies class in the late 80‘s is a remarkable reminder to be kind to the “other”. I‘m going through my own de-radicalization process and hearing men out in spaces where they are trying to learn in good-faith is something I‘m not sure I‘ve been the best at.

I started reading this and then the news about the Amazon fires hit. Now, every time I sit to read, I get this sense of dread. This colonial mindset in this book is a huge reason why these fires started. Colonial greed is ugly. I have to put this one down for my own health.

In longer series, like this one, I have found that there are books that just serve to transition to the next major arc. This is one of those books. Still, it is a fast read and is very pleasurable!

A good mix of action, science fiction, and romance. Normally I am not the type to say this, but when the book refocused on the romance, thats when I enjoyed it the most. The only real complaint I have is that some of the descriptions were a little vague at times. 8/10

In this anthology, i skipped War of the Worlds and went straight to A Princess of Mars. Considering that the one I read before that was Looking Backward: 2000-1887, the two stories feel like night and day. In Bellamy‘s story, everyone was equal. In Burroughs‘s, racism and classism are alive and well. The juxtaposition in anthologies always fascinates me.

I would have panned this book, but the ending was satisfying. A comparable book to the Sookie Stackhouse novels, but not as well written. Im not sure this is worth the read, however. If the author spent as much time developing characters as she did writing 3 consecutive sex scenes, this book would have be great. If you want a decent noir mystery, skip this and listen to Rex Riveter: private eye. If you want a decent romance/mystery, stick to sookie

I‘m calling this book out right now. I bought this at an anime convention. For those who don‘t know, there an an anime called Yuuri on Ice. One of the central themes of that anime is defining the differences between Eros and Agape. It would be safe to know your audience and assume they know what Eros is. This was a really good book, but took a turn for the worst. I only have 60 pages left. I hope i can make it through them.

This book is kinda frustrating me at the moment. It‘s been a delightful Mystery Thriller Romance novel, but has just taken an abrupt turn to being a sex novel. For three chapters in a row i have had to read about erections. I‘m an adult. I can handle sex. I actually do read books for the plot. Sex can be used as a plot device. This book is not being that tactful. Get back to the story. The romance will follow. this book is too short to waste time

I don‘t want to put bail because this book is better than that, but that‘s exactly what happened. In the preface you‘re told that this is this woman‘s doctoral dissertation and it reads like it. It was just getting so dry I couldn‘t finish it. Now it‘s still absolutely worth the read if you‘re interested in R. Zalman‘s teachings.
