Classic Tales of Science Fiction & Fantasy | Jack London, EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS, H. G. Wells, Jules Verne
5 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
Long before we ventured into outer space or explored the most remote regions of the planet, writers have spun stories of what might lie in those unknown worlds, or what awaits humanity in the future. Classic Tales of Science Fiction & Fantasy is a collection of ten novels and short stories that blazed the trail for the popular genre. Works by acclaimed authors such as Jules Verne, H. G. Wells, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Jack London, and H. P. Lovecraft will transport the reader to distant places and times--and set the imagination ablaze!

Bailedbailed

This actually breaks my heart to put it on the “bail” list. But that is what I am doing due to structural issues with the binding. It is a fantastic anthology with some incredible works in it and it belongs on the shelf of every science fiction lover. I just can‘t finish it in good faith knowing that I am making a book that is falling apart in worse condition.

In this anthology, i skipped War of the Worlds and went straight to A Princess of Mars. Considering that the one I read before that was Looking Backward: 2000-1887, the two stories feel like night and day. In Bellamy‘s story, everyone was equal. In Burroughs‘s, racism and classism are alive and well. The juxtaposition in anthologies always fascinates me.
