I just can‘t with this book. If you are Sansei and from CA how do you NOT know about Internment? The author totally skipped over concentration camp experience and ensuing generational trauma and I am NOT ok with that. If the MC was Shin-Sansei, that would make sense, but she‘s not. Also, the MC is maybe 18 and dating someone who is at least 23. Not cool.

I decided I needed something more light-hearted after all the horror I've read 😂 This delivered but I wasn't very happy lol. We follow Izumi, who wants to connect with her father but also find where she belongs. It's def not in white America so she tries Japan. My ick was how her sense of belonging was tied to her romance with her guard. He loves me? I belong. Loves me not? I don't. Also other things, but it was a quick read soooo... 🤔

This Japanese American take on The Princess Diaries is knowingly full of cliches, but I like it enough to immediately download the sequel 🇯🇵🇺🇸👸🏻

Izumi is SUCH a good character/narrator. I love her voice, and I have real sympathy for her desire to figure out who she is as a person with roots in two countries. Such a good take on the Princess Diaries trope. #reread #yalit

A love story between a Tokyo princess and her bodyguard? I loved Izumi's self-discovery adventure throughout this novel, especially because she wasn't only focused on her feelings for Akio. In America, Izumi isn't American enough, but in Japan, she isn't Asian enough. But this was such a fun story to read. The chaos that Izumi got herself into kept me hanging with every page, and the final few chapters about Akio had me stressed beyond relief.

For #travelthroughbooks I selected this read set in #tokyo #japan. This was for me a fun and fast read and the entire time I kind of got the “Princess Diaries”vibe. Izumi and her friends are a hoot and the lost princess trope is done well and I‘m looking forward to the sequel. #mayreading #springread

Izumi, a Japanese American young adult discovered that her father is a prince in Japan. She want to discover her heritage roots his father family and will travel to Japan. Izumi question who she is, her cultural identity where she feels rejection in America for being a Japanese and in Japan for being a foreigner. The story is okay but cute with expected characters YA behaviors and expressions. 3⭐️I will like to read the sequel.

I found this book a little boring in places, especially at the beginning, but it was a quick read so I pushed through. It felt a little too typical of these types of stories, it just didn't have enough in it to mix then up. I still enjoyed it, but it doesn't really stand out to me.

I have never been this addicted to an audio book. I couldn‘t stop listening! It was very culture rich which I loved and a cute little romance.

I absolutely LOVED this book! Cinderella meets Crazy Rich Asians. Izumi is hilarious and so open and real, I read this book in one sitting.

Apparently I have finally reached the point in my life where I cannot read high school drama anymore…. No matter how royal. It‘s well written but the FL was born in 2003 and I cannot……

Man, I loved the feminist twist that this took at the end! That cover is also just amazing. It‘s been hard for me to find a romance that I‘m really into, but this one just hit all the right spots. I found it funny at parts and enjoyed all the Marvel references (though I didn‘t like how Izumi totally dissed on Hawkeye). 5🌟

A real comfort read, and a happy one too. Before I even made it halfway through the book, I wanted to read more from the author, and I didn't want Izumi's story to end. Thankfully, there's a sequel. 🌸

Yeah I'm officially burnt out on fantasies so trying a contemporary

I needed a break from all the dark October reads and this was the perfect book. It was witty and clever and I loved everything about it including the gorgeous cover! I can't wait for the next one and I agree with the group that this would make a fantastic movie.

4⭐ I loved this! It was funny and romantic and I liked Izumi‘s exploration of her family past. I can‘t wait for the sequel!

American Teen learns that her Dad is the Crown Prince of Japan. She struggles to learn royal protocol, but is learning how to be a true daughter of Japan and also stay true to herself. The books is not as whimsical as this cover suggests, but it was fun and there's a handsome bodyguard thrown in for a secret romance.

Just finished this. It was amazing and I loved it so much. Apparently there‘s a sequel coming out next year.

Okay I seriously didn‘t think I would love this book as much as I did! I fell in love with Izumi and was upset when she was and just wanted her to be happy and just wow!!

This was such a good book, especially the audio because you get to hear the words in Japanese as they're supposed to be pronounced. A senior in high school finds out her real father is the Crowded Prince of Japan. She travels there to meet him and discovers royal life is very different. Also has a hate to love relationship with her royal guard. But it was a sweet story I loved.

Enjoyable fairy tale of being a long lost princess in the 21st century. Light & fun.

Delightful YA novel about a Japanese American girl who learns that she is really a Japanese Princess. Cute premise and very engagingly written. Enjoyment factor: 4/5

This is a perfect summer read. It will pull you in, hold you tight, and set you free, but leave you thinking about the characters and their world for some time to come.

This book has the cutest cover. I listened to the audiobook and it was a fun distraction. The setting is what makes this different from other “instant princess” stories. Izumi is a good main character. There‘s one character/story element that I thought was sort of yucky, but it ended up being dealt with in the end. (Side Note: this is the second book I‘ve read in August with a side character named Nora)

🎧 I just lost some litfluence because I enjoyed this book. It was very YA but it was sweet & well written.

Izumi never knew her father & then finds out that he‘s the crown prince of Japan. She goes for a visit.

Then we have an enemies to lovers story that goes wrong.

Will Princess Izzy & her mom find their happily ever after …

This appears to be the book I needed today 😁 it reminded me of a series of books, The Princess Diaries.

Honestly any writing is an expression of the soul IMO. This is a book for anyone who was a fan of the Princess Diaries, honestly this is better.

Izumi has never met her father; she happens upon a note pressed btn the pages of a book which leads her to discover who her Dad is but sets her on a path to discover who she is as well.

I actually might need to buy myself a copy of this one.

One of my top books of the year! Loved Izumi's voice, and her journey felt realistic for a teen. Plus, who doesn't love anything that can be comped to The Princess Diaries? #yalit #yaromance

It is a joyful read: funny, heartwarming story, entertaining writing, interesting characters and multi cultural interests. There isn't a ton of conflict or drama and insta-love between the MCs was a bit implausible, but I still enjoyed this sweet romance book!

While I still got some Princess Diaries vibes while reading it, it stands alone for itself for this coming of age princess tale. Izumi is witty, sarcastic, and honestly a delightful character, and is far from a surface-level In character development. Emiko Jean has created characters that are lifelike and realistic. I cannot wait to continue to read this series, and read as these characters continue to grow.

Cute YA romcom in the vein of What A Girl Wants, The Princess Diaries, First Daughter, etc. where a teen from rural California learns she‘s the illegitimate child of the crown prince of Japan and ultimately falls for her bodyguard 🇯🇵 Hallmark-y and mostly predictable, the snarky voice of the narrator made me laugh out loud nearly every chapter.
